The W Korea Breast Cancer Awareness Event for 2025 became one of the most panned fundraisers in South Korea. Visuals of idols dressed in glamorous club wear, drinking, dancing and socializing with colleagues of the opposite sex left people enraged at an event. The anger was not a misplaced one as the organizers did not do enough to show solidarity with the struggles of cancer patients or survivors. Other than a small speech, there was nothing to show that it was a charity gala for a disease that deeply impacts the lives of men and women all over the world.
W Korea has finally published an apology on its Instagram page. They have also removed the posts where celebs were shown as partying and enjoying themselves. However, they kept Kim Taehyung’s reel for a longer time. This has made BTS fans very angry. The singer and songwriter of BTS is facing flak for being problematic. Some anti-BTS fans have dragged out content from digital media calling him ‘fatphobic’, ‘retarded’ and fake. People who are associated with him socially are also being called named. This is sad given that he was just enjoying himself at what looked like a charity fundraiser party. Fans have said the organizers should take more blame about what is happened with celebs now.
Unfair to blame celebs?
It seems all major luxury brands contributed to the charity event. The celebs who are brand ambassadors of the same wore their clothes to the party. Kim Taehyung’s Celine was one of the major contributors. Not only Kim Taehyung, even RM and J-Hope of BTS got some flak. Karina of aespa has also been called out badly for her body-hugging outfit. People have criticized the clothes worn by Korean celebs for the party. It looks like W Korea will have to a lot of PR damage control in the coming months. Korean celebs too will do a double-think before attending any such event that does not match the ethos of its invite.
BTS: W Korea has now published a formal apology on how the Breast Cancer Awareness Event was conducted. As we know, it is a fundraiser gala. However, visuals of the idols, K-drama stars drinking, partying and socializing with colleagues of the opposite sex has left people furious. The fact that Jay Park sang Mommae also left people angered.
