People can call their siblings and cousins by name, no problem. But some people seem to be putting down the custom too. There's nothing wrong with addressing them with some other word specific to the relationship. Just because they do so doesn't mean they are not modern. There are other cultures too that don't address those elder to them by their names. That doesn't make them regressive or non-modern.

Coming to replies I was seriously surprised. While I agree that what you address your relative as is a personal choice between the both of you but people putting down the custom was something that I didnt expect. Does it matter if Karishma is 6 or 9 years older than Kareena? I have seen one twin address her elder twin as didi too though they were born a few minutes apart.

The worst part was someone deriding the 38 year old HR for calling his elder sister didi because she is obese. This forum is surely an eye-opener everyday.

however its not necessary EVERYWHERE. i have an older sibling n younger i or they have always adressed each other by name. heck i dont even call my bhabi, bhabi loll i adress her by name as well.😆

not everyone has same thinking. And isnt Kareena half catholic or something? they dont say "sister" "brother" either😊
