well I dont think just because you respect somebody and the person is elderly, you need to address them as bhaiyya or didi...

my brother is 5 years younger to me but he does not call me di and whereas my cousin is 4 years elder to me but I call him Bhai...but does not mean that my bro does not respect me at all...its your personal choice I guess...😃

Because she was taught to call her 'Karishma' and not 'Di.'And if Karishma do not have any problem with it why should we have.And what is this 'respect' thing?Siblings share a relationship which is beyond 'respect' and 'formalities'.I call 'Di' and 'Bhaiya' to those people whom I do not have any mental connections with.
Sadly my own siblings do not call me by name.

I think it's personal preference, my brother's 5 years younger than I am but he has never called me didi or anything..infant I prefer him not to call me that. My younger cousin calls me did pix just because her parents make her but I prefer not to be called that.

Shopkeepers, maids, drivers etc address people as such, Even a very elderly shopkeeper will address much younger people as didi. What annoys me is educated neighbours much older than you addressing you as aunty. 🤪As soon as I got out of my school uniform I started getting addressed as aunty.
