Hmm... but there are things called fake-cigarettes that non-smoking actors use. She didn't have to drink the *actual* alcohol y'know. She could just drink some colored water which looked like alcohol. Because this is only about ACTING.

They had to get a clause signed by her citing anything that happens to her during the shooting, they are not responsible for it, just like Penelope Cruz had signed an agreement. In that case, nobody would've blamed Madhur god-forbid anything would have happened.

Also, pregnant women work everywhere. They might have to use the staircase. They can fall down any minute. But her boss is not responsible if she falls down. It is entirely her responsibility to look after herself. That is the reason they take extra-precautions.

I understand your points VanityGirl, Madhur too isnt entirley innocent or anything, but how would you try to work around the need for her to look fit and loose weight for the role?

I think that is actually the BIGGEST issue, not even the 'smoking' 'drinking' on sets. All that can be taken care of with props and restrictions.

I know this is being made out to be a 'health concern' for aishwarya, but i think it boils down to the fact that Madhur was going to ask her to drop 10 pounds in the middle of the shoot and she would not have been able to 4 months pregnant.

And if that sounds like that is unreasonable or wasnt a part of the script, i doubt it. Its a film about a woman who is THE 'heroine' of bollywood. Even Aishwarya must have known the physical requirements for such a role and how it will fluctuate to explain the characters journey.

A pregnant woman cant drop 10-15 pounds in a short amount of time. Seriously. I think it just comes down to 'she wont look right' for the part.

You made a very valid point. I fully agree. This role requires her to be uber slim. But I just have one thing to say - How did Ash look in Cannes? She looked just the same like how she looks right now. Madhur did not have a problem with Ash's body in Cannes. When the filming began on June 7th, she had the same body, but Madhur still did not have any problems with it. Now if the film is meant to be a short, less than 2 month schedule, how did he even expect her to lose 15-20 pounds in the middle of the film that too in such a short schedule?

I am all for pregnant woman working but I have seen my teachers go on menternity leave in their three and fouth month of pregnancy, and coming back after one year. Teaching isn't even that risky of a job. Women do work while pregnant but if its safe, and they really have to do it.

^I agree. But was stopping others from smoking on the sets is not a big issue. How big of a deal it is to keep a "No smoking" board preventing everybody on the sets to stop smoking. Even that is not needed. I believe people on the sets would understand the situation and would not smoke near a pregnant woman. It's certainly not impossible. Madhur could easily have made a way out.

Of course, may be Aishwarya had her own problems for not telling it. May be she did make a mistake. But then it didn't have to be treated so badly. There was a solution for this to be sorted out. Unfortunately it only became a bigger and bigger problem.

I think teaching is more risky than acting. Believe me, a teacher has to shout out of her lungs all the time to be heard and it takes a painstaking amout of energy. Generally my teachers quit in their 5th-6th months. And are back after a month after delivery.

True it is ridiculous to ask someone to loose that kind of weight, but we must take into consideration that this is the filmi world. Directors can ask anything of their lead and the lead must comply to make it work, unless otherwise. The same requests have been made to Vidya, Rani, etc. And sometimes they follow through, sometimes they dont.

Again, her body in Cannes was one that Madhur could work with but probably also expected her to shape up for Heroine. Shape up a lot more. Aishwarya is a beautiful woman but she has certainly gotten bigger, and this is a harsh industry. If your going to represent a 'face' that millions will love you need to follow the rules the masses lay out, and especially for a film like this one.

I feel as though madhur probably expected the shoot to lengthen but just made some bakwas announcment about it being 40 days.

There are things about this whole situation that are murky, i can't say i support Aishwarya on this one, she made a very bad call, but i think madhur could have salvaged the project or atleast i hope he still does.
