The beloved Malayalam superstar Mammootty is set to return to filming after a health-related hiatus. The 72-year-old actor, celebrated for over fifty years, paused shooting earlier this year for treatment. His absence sparked concern and prayers from fans in Kerala and beyond. Relief is now in sight as the actor prepares to rejoin the "Patriot" team on October 1.
Filmmaker on Mammootty's return
In an interview with OnManorama, filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan discussed the actor's return to the set. Mahesh told the publication that Mammootty will return to the shooting of "Patriot" from 1 October. “We’re all thrilled to have Mammookka back on set,” he said, discussing the actor’s return to form.
The director clarified that Mammootty's break did not affect the film's schedule, as they filmed scenes with other actors during that time. "I would visit his house to show him edits. He was completely part of the process, even if he wasn’t on location," Mahesh said.
Shooting plans
Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, "Patriot" boasts a stellar cast, including Mohanlal, Nayanthara, Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, and Darshana Rajendran. Mahesh, known for "Take Off" and "CU Soon," revealed that approximately 65-70% of the film is already complete. The team has filmed in the UAE, Sri Lanka, and India, with the remaining work primarily in Kerala and the UK. Mohanlal has completed his scenes, and Mammootty had already filmed for 45 days before his break.
The upcoming schedule will feature scenes between Mammootty and Mohanlal, followed by filming in the UK. Ramesh Pisharody also mentioned that Mammootty would soon join the shoot in Hyderabad. "Patriot" also stars Fahadh Faasil and Kunchacko Boban.
Mammootty’s health issues
News emerged in March about Mammootty's break from films due to health issues. His team denied cancer rumors. Following his recovery announcement in August, Mohanlal shared with Manorama News, I prayed for him in Sabarimala…I prayed elsewhere as well. He went for treatment while we were working on Patriot. From what I’ve heard, I understand he’ll be back to work next month. He will start by finishing his dubbing work. Because of his health, there will be medical restrictions for a while before he can shoot. Mohanlal also prayed for Mammootty’s health in Sabarimala this year.
