I saw someone saying siddarth is underrated.

I don't think Siddarth is underrated... all his movies are successful in the box office and everyone loves his acting.

I disagree. Aishwarya has her share of movies where she has acted well but those movies have been ignored - just as SRK's have been - hence the comparison. Iruvar, Choker Bali, Raincoat, Kandukondain Kandukondain, Provoked etc are movies where Aishwarya has been every bit as good as (if not better because she has done a larger variety of movies than SRK has) SRK has been in movies like Swades or Kabhi Ha Kabhi Na. Ironically, the "I'm the most beautiful woman in the world" tag which you claim has brought her to the forefront also has played its disadvantages. Her beauty often overrides her talent. That is another thing females have to face - the prettier they are, the more harshly they are criticized - Aishwarya, Deepika are examples of that. The actresses all can't be girl-next-doors.

As far as I remember, Katrina was criticized for being given that honor, wasn't she? Not saying she deserved the award, because she didn't in my opinion. Yes, it is sad that people like Katrina are being heralded by the media as one of the best but the same critics also tear her up over her acting prowess (or lack thereof). But then, we must also acknowledge as you implied that directors are regulating actresses to roles that do not have a lot of substance.
P.S. Haven't we deviated so much from the original conversation?

True, but still you won't criticize a beautiful face like Madhuri or from recent times, a face like Priyanka's - why? because their acting speaks volume ( in their respective ways). I still feel Aish has received recognition more through her beauty than through her acting abilities. Deepika has a long way to go, for now - I really think she's just a beautiful face. There's always something in actors that we can pick on as well. I always hear people saying it's hrithik's dance moves that make him who he is, not his acting, or because Abhishek is a "Bachan" he has survived in this industry. So, if anything when actors/actresses fail to impress through their acting skills, people just pick on their looks/figure/whatever else. Doesn't mean it's only the females who are harshly criticized.

Nevertheless, I agree with your points too. I guess there are always exceptions in every case, but in terms of acting - there is talent from both sides.

p.s Yeah, we have deviated from the original topic, but that seems to happen to often in nearly every thread here, and we're not the only ones.😆

Aftab was really good in that movie he did with amisha and esha deol. Or maybe it was the female leads that was carrying the movie instead of him. It's a good movie.

Hungama was a very funny movie. I loved akshay khanna in it. Akshay is seriously underrated actor

I have no idea why Madhuri doesn't have detractors (that aren't fanatic Sridevi fans) - she seems to be the odd-one out but if I were to take a guess I'd say it's because our perception of her is that she is a sweetheart*. As far as I know, Priyanka does have her share of them. After Aitraaz, a lot of people theorized that her career wasn't going anywhere. It's recently (I'd put it about the time Fashion came out) that people have started taking her seriously. I would agree that Aishwarya has gained recognition because of her beauty but it still doesn't mitigate the fact that she can act up to par. Her Iruvar was a really good film (with amazing music by Rahman) where, if I remember correctly, she played two different characters and gracefully too - shame it didn't work. I agree with you that the criticism goes both ways which is why I also think that the pendulum of talent goes both ways. I'd have to disagree to an extent on the harshly criticized part though - especially when the star's personal lives are involved. IMO, the way media rips apart Deepika for her alleged affairs, or Kareena for the 'heartless act' she served Shahid, they hardly do that for their male counterparts as far as I've seen. That is, the media wouldn't criticize Akshay or Aamir for their ostensible affairs.
P.S. heh. Good to know that we aren't alone in the deviation then :)

🤣 yeah he was in that movie. If you didn't remember he was in the movie that goes to show why he's underrated. Some of the underrated actors deserves that spot because they don't leave an impact on the audience.

Sometimes I'm reading an article about an actor and it says he was in this movie. When I watched that movie too many times and I don't even remember that actor's face in that movie, it shows why he's underrated.
