For every SRK, there is not an Aish. Aish and SRK are poles apart in terms of acting. Everyone might have their own opinion of SRK as an actor, but I, for one, feel that he is a versatile actor and has played a variety of roles; because of the fact that he has a lot of commerical films at his side, people tend to ignore his talent as an overall actor. Aish is no where near SRK's caliber as an actress. She's the actress who achieved fame through the tag "I'm the most beautiful woman in the world." They can be compared as 'superstars' but certainly not as actors in terms of talent!
There's something about katrina that has her up there receiving the RG award, or putting her amongst some of the best actresses in nearly every award show these days. Like I mentioned before, there are always exceptions, but I certainly do believe that there are many actresses who have hogged the limelight and have been categorized as one of the best quiet easily as compared to male actors. Or, maybe it's just the way bollywood has been working lately with all the glamor that's being involved, that sort of pushes acting to the curb?
I disagree. Aishwarya has her share of movies where she has acted well but those movies have been ignored - just as SRK's have been - hence the comparison. Iruvar, Choker Bali, Raincoat, Kandukondain Kandukondain, Provoked etc are movies where Aishwarya has been every bit as good as (if not better because she has done a larger variety of movies than SRK has) SRK has been in movies like Swades or Kabhi Ha Kabhi Na. Ironically, the "I'm the most beautiful woman in the world" tag which you claim has brought her to the forefront also has played its disadvantages. Her beauty often overrides her talent. That is another thing females have to face - the prettier they are, the more harshly they are criticized - Aishwarya, Deepika are examples of that. The actresses all can't be girl-next-doors.
As far as I remember, Katrina was criticized for being given that honor, wasn't she? Not saying she deserved the award, because she didn't in my opinion. Yes, it is sad that people like Katrina are being heralded by the media as one of the best but the same critics also tear her up over her acting prowess (or lack thereof). But then, we must also acknowledge as you implied that directors are regulating actresses to roles that do not have a lot of substance.
P.S. Haven't we deviated so much from the original conversation?
