Not Jenshad - it's the TRPs - Conclusion Note Pg 11

Our HR Management got a really expensive coffee machine for our office - America is obsessed with coffee - it cost a neat 10,000 dollars. It was a people pleasing initiative and made complete business sense too. Get something people will get addicted that too at a one time investment. And it was successful - initially. The coffee was to die for, a tea lover like me also took a cup of French Vanilla every now and then. But, there was one problem - it broke down every other day. Every two months the maintenance had to be called. But, because the machine was phenomenal in its job and had cost 10,000 freaking dollars, the management bore the maintenance cost with a smile - for some time. After one year, the management was like - hell with what everyone loves, I am done paying for the maintenance and the popular coffee machine was replaced by a normal bland one.

I believe Bepannaah is like this insanely expensive coffee machine for ColorsTV. BP was a winner on paper - mystery thriller (they already had IMMJ on air and it got good numbers so assuming BP would too made sense), extremely popular lead actors and production house with a previous blockbuster show. Beyhadh might not be very popular on the TRP chart but it was critically acclaimed and it was on SonyTV which gets very less attention - be it online audience or TRP aunties.

So, it was obvious for Colors to have high expectations of BP and they were not completely wrong - it was in top 5 for the first week because the premise and initial promos were so catchy.

I got addicted to BP on my two week vacation to India in March. I hadn't followed Harshad after Kis Desh and then I saw this promo and I was like kahin toh dekha hai iss ladke ko. Chrome opened - ooohhh this is Prem. 😆

Anyways coming back to the point, I was taken aback by the sudden explosion on IF and Instagram on Wednesday. ColorsTV went berserk with Adiya - ek ke baad ek clips release ho rhi hain. Till then it was fine but then Harshad and Jennifer also post simultaneously on their Instagram accounts and begin liking pictures left right and center. Harshad even replies to a comment - that has to be registered in Limca Book of Records. 😆

Shippers go mad.

Jenshad Jenshad everywhere and not a soul spared.

Come Thursday - TRP 1.0

Rock bottom.

Don't you think that they were given instructions by PH to do this ? The TRPs are released on Thursday but I am sure channels get to know the numbers before we do. Harshad mentioned that they have a bound script for 12-15 months. It's almost November so that leaves 5 more months.

But, no one gives a crap about script because shows get wrapped and the script completely changed for the sake of TRPs. And I guess that is happening with BP too - this Nani track is so Ekta Kapoor. And that chudail laughter.

Also, promoting BP on Insta and Twitter costs zero paisa. Just post a clip from already shot episode and #Jenshad will start trending. People will start picturing cute jenshad babies and marriage invitations will be written. (Someone modified Deepika Ranveer wedding invitation).

I think that Colors is making last ditch effort to save BP because it has scope unlike other shows with 1.0 TRPs. Silsila and Roop don't have crazy fans so posting clips and doing SM promotions won't have much effect. But, with BP making an effort CAN count. Emphasis on the word - can.

Well, I hope TRP devis are meherbaan on us and give us bumper TRPs next week.

Because at the end of the day - it's all about the money, honey !

Jai ho TRP mata ki.

I don't want BP to suffer the fate of our poor coffee machine. 😆

God, I am craving French Vanilla now !

Hey,

I'm going to disagree a little here with you. Bepannaah for Colors is extremely important because online revenue is expanding. Bepannaah is their golden goose online. Also, it does very well in the international space. It rocks the charts in UK.

Also, I feel a show like Bepannaah is apt for maybe web series. Online numbers prove that. I'm not saying it is not doing well on TV. It has been good. Bepannaah started at 9 , then 920pm, slight shift to 930pm and finally a 1030 slot. What had remained constant is the online fan base.

I was just gonna write the same thing hahahaha
i feel the same as well! it is immensely popular online! I live in Australia and I was talking to some girls here, they are CRAZY for Bepannaah! I was so shocked that these people watch Bepannaah actually. I was thinking the other day as well, that it should be turned into a web series if it is not getting a good TRP, cause tbh, this show is a thousand times better than some of the 'top' TRP wala shows. I dont judge a show by its TRP cause TRP audiences are very different I guess!

You mentioned that online revenue is expanding. How ? I am a little lost here.

I don't pay a dime to watch BP online that too without advertisements. 😆

BP might be popular in UK but seriously how many viewers we have in UK ? We have total of 1.4 million Indians in UK, compare that with only Delhi - 19 million.

Even if we assume each Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and basically anyone who can understand Hindi in UK watched BP - the numbers are not sustainable.

I agree it is better than TRP wale shows and it is popular even in US but what about the revenue ? Colors doesn't get advertisement revenue or for that matter any other kind from online audience -only SM followers.

I haven't watched the show on Voot so I don't know if they have ads there but why pay to watch on Voot when you can easily watch it for free elsewhere ?

What would help is to make it into web series that way we can have seasons and the creatives have a little break to come up with solid storylines. Plus they can generate ads through online views too. They already have voot. But get something for global audience. Yes it will not be that profitable like tv but will definitely get loyal audience.

Well promoting a show is not a bad thing. The shows dismal performance tears my heart. Content driven shows are not suited for the regressive Indian Audience. I do believe it can get shifted to the web that way even the essence of the show won't be lost. It's already striken an amazing audience with the digital audience. So not a bad idea.

Yeah, it would be better to shift to web. Anyways I guess 60-70 % BP audience watches it online. This way atleast the story won't be butchered.

We should all be glad that Colors is promoting BP unlike other shows whose TRPs have fallen even severely worse.
Though I completely understand that profit is the endgame for these channels, BP provides Colors with a sense of popularity never experienced before. Most of my Indian friends here in the US have skipped past this channel for years until BP
was aired. Now it's a staple for most of us. I believe the situation is similar for Pakistani, UK & Arab viewers.

I agree, TRPs need to escalate but at this point, we can't predict the future based on a two week TRP drop. Let's all hope. Besides, there was a notice that Colors has asked the Creatives to continue with a season 2 or something like that weeks ago...I don't think they would do that if they were so severely concerned about the TRPs
