A man can decide whether he wants to learn self-defense or not then why cant a woman? Why it shud be a need not a choice for her??? Why provocate the fact that no only women will have to always "FIGHT" for themselves. Why we only tell women to fight???Dont we women have the right to live a smooth free fearless lives where we can do what we want. I shud hv the freedom to decide whether i want to learn self-defence or not. If I pay the govt taxes for my safety they are under the obligation to protect me and help me live an easy and free life. A life of my choice. Confidence doesn't come from learning martial arts.I can be internally confident even if I am a house wife.

"The fear of law" is the biggest right of any citizen. My cousin who lives in US told me about a case that had been filed against an electric appliance company who sold a faulty product. They had to pay so much of penalty that they went in debt.Would a faulty appliance make an issue in our country?Though it can be life threatening. That is the power of "fear of law" No one wants to become bankrupt or lose their life just for a moment of fun or sexual satisfaction.

Both preventive and curative as well as defensive and proactive measures are necessary.
It has to be multi pronged approach it is the duty of the state to provide a safe environment and laws that protect citizens.

It is also the duty as well as right of a citizen to make sure that her rights are not encroached on.
Men who feel that it is their right to walk on the roads feel threatened by women who are walking on the road use brute strength to subjate at times we can't wait for the police to come we have to do something by ourselves

Laws will be of help when there are people who fear the law.

There is something called self reliant and self sufficiency.
If boys are taught to respect women and their rights girls have to be made aware of their rights and defend them if necessary.
They can do what ever is needed and then wait for the law to take it's course.
Can't leave everything to state it also is the duty of the citizens to help the state.

One genuine situation - A girl is coming home late say 8 pm after the class and she realised that she is being followed she increased the pace but was unsuccessful she was attacked what do you expect her to do?

Presence of mind is one of the most important things in self-defense and it's very easy to lose it when big group of people suddenly surround you in middle of street
The first thing to teach in assault cases
First never give anyone chance to misbehave with you (Shiv may get some tip on this from his own sister Saanchi)
Second is always carry some kind of effective thing to attack on someone (i always carry a spray with me...my friend once got saved form assault case due to her presence of mind and she had carried a knife with her)
Third is presence of mind and avoiding dark lonely places or travelling vehicles
Never take buses or taxis at late hours...always try to manage your private vehicle(something i felt Nirbhaya should have done)

Giving lectures on change of mindset of men is good but not effective...changing mind set is one of the most difficult things to do...after Nirbhaya case i have lost faith in humanity and for me humanity means dominating and manipulating someone and not caring for someone...i always thought that Nirbhaya case will change the law of our country...this is the wake up call for our Govt. but look what is happening...the very next day after the incidence made headlines a 4yrs old girl was raped brutally by her own grandfather yet stupid politicians are looking forward to elections and seat...they can't keep any city clean during elections and we except them to clean people's mind...one cannot rely on someone's mentality and we have a very good example for ourselves in BV itself-Saanchi...can anyone rely on Saanchi that she will change and bring positivity towards marriage in Jagya...no...it's same for men...we don't know when someone's mind changes...we cannot have complete faith on them...it will take time for them to change so meanwhile it's we who have to help ourselves...forget about mind set we cannot even rely on crowd of our country...rapes and assault happen in day light in front of people and what do they do...record the incident in their camera...i have seen many news showing such issues...i think it's good Shiv-Anandi are showing self-defense skills but how will it protect a girl from big group is the main question.
Govt. safety and police protection come under mind set...politicians can't make the laws of our country strict because they themselves don't know when they get trapped under one such law...jab khud ki soch sahi na ho toh dusro ki kya maddad rakege...policemen don't help people because they themselves have such low thinking (no offence to any person related to these areas of job...there are good and bad peopel everywhere but it's just that there are so many bad powerful people that having good people is hardly effective 😭)

No one would dare to attack her if they know that the last man who tried to commit this crime was given life imprisonment/more severe punishment.Today what we need is just laws but enforcements of laws as well as quick decision making courts. In the recent rape cases of delhi/mumbai the criminals have been identified within 2 days and the crime has been proved too.Still law doesnt do anything. If till now they had dared to give death sentence to all accused in delhi rape case...I can bet the rape cases would have seen a massive decrease.

@aparnauma, last yr in Kerala there was an incident. a gal was returning from work around 7 p.m. , got in to ladies compartment. nobody was there. a handicapped beggar (he had only one leg) raped her and pushed her out of the train . the question is, she could have easily defended herself. but she got scared ,panicked and couldn't do anything in her defence.
this is what happens in some cases. in a situation like this girls training in self defence really helps.

Oh no Maliika don't be so harsh !!!! u know the poor rapist is just a child a minor in front of law...they will only give him strict punishment when he turns adult and gets released from the jail and attempt some more sever rapes 🤢...our Govt. needs more Nirbhaya to give punishment to such devils...just one case is not enough for them 😡

Happy BV is airing something sensible better then saas-bahu crap.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Self -Defence is that each person should know unbiased on gender.

Females cannot sit and wait for help to come to them. They have to be self reliant, to tackle situation. If a guy know that a female is strong enough they would better stay off her (at lest 10%).

It is also true that strict law is needed, with out strict law this cannot be crubbed. It is sad but in our country a politician can contest election sitting in jail this law is passed within 15 mins opposing Supreme court judgement but a strict law takes years to be passed.

It is more required for people to change there mentality, family to stop gender bias . But till they change we cannot sit ideally.

Remember help comes to those who help themselves.

True Malika I completely agree with you.

We need strong laws that is must , but till we get that we also need some self -defense.

Nirbhaya case minor getting just 3 years of jail is a shame on our jurisdiction. Just imagine the situation when he is going to be out after 3 years, are we safe? NO . The worst part is noe people are using being minor as a tool to escape punishment.

We must not forget that BV is a fiction & it has nothing to do with reality. Otherwise how many BVS in reality would find a bureaucrat as savior & lifepartner. These shows aim to incorporate social issues to draw viewers attention & garner trp. The need of the hour is stringent law & undertake steps to change the mentality which is a long drawn process. The Self proclaimed Godman is leaving no stone unturned to get bailed out from the case. Therefore strict law is essential. As far as shows & movies are concerned i would like to draw your attention on the recent movie Ranjhana .How cleverly & beautifully the director blended the love story with current affairs.

There is this man who raped a 6 year old, killed her brutally ...
police arrested him ... and court order was that of life .. (hanged till death ...accused can appeal to the higher courts if he wants) .

This news was very well covered by local newspapers and media .. i.e. people were happy that justice had been done.

Few months later ... 5 men gang raped a women and burned her alive ... she died after suffering 80 % burns.

The point is .. these men do not plan to commit a crime or to rape. .. they are criminal minded or i would even say Mentally unstable ...

Maximum punishment law is there for murder .. but that does not put a full stop . People still kill others .

A person who is capable enough to do self - defence .. atleast has a chance to save herself at that moment ... and later logde a police complaint .. yes here the law needs to be stricter and a proper action should be taken.

Law and order definitely have to be in place .
But learning self - defense definitely help.. from teasers ... from chain snatchers ... from various anti social elements.
