Self defense is needed i agree...But it will work only when a girl has to fight against one or two...not against a big gang...Everywhere i get to hear ridiculous statements like the girl was wearing a short dress or the girl shouldn't have been out so late...Why don't anyone say anything against boys?? The change in the mindset of boys is the need of the hour...Self defense is only a method of prevention...Its not a cure for the problem...Only when the boys learn to respect girls, the girls can be considered safe...

Just like saying women shud wear long dresses is not a viable solution...teaching them martial arts too isnt.Rather its a wrong approach in the first place. You are promoting the idea that we live in a society where neither law will protect us nor will men change themselves so we will only have to do everything ourselves. But I ask if tomorrow like rapes murders too become so common...will they teach women to carry pistols and knives with them?

And i would like to add there have been many cases where women tried to answer with martial arts/self-defense and they ended up being harassed more.Because they stood against criminals they had to face acid attacks and attacks on their families. The conclusion is that w/o a strong law nothing can be done. And our duty is not to sit with a pessimistic view that "law will not do anything for us we shud do ourselves" rather we as a society we need to force the govt to protect our rights.

If our freedom fighters too had not gone against govt and forced them to see our plight we would have been under british law till now.Its abt challenging the law to do the needful. If thats done taking small measures of care wont be a great issue. Then even a simple pepper spray or chilli powder will work because rarely men will try to attempt such things.

I completely agree Malika...First of all, wearing a long dress will not prevent rapes...And as u said, there are cases where girls have stood up against rapists through self defense and as a result, they are harassed terribly...

The only remedy i believe is stricter laws, harsher punishments for rapists and more respect towards women...

I agree! And doesnt pushing women to learn martial arts violates the idea of equality in our society??No man has to learn martial arts to protect their dignity from women. They can roam around anywhere anytime doing anything.

Then why a woman...whose already doing so many jobs has to spare time to learn martial arts ??Even today 90% of working women dont get any help from there husbands in household work. They handle their kids...prepare food...take care of home as well as do their jobs.To add to it they need to learn martial arts too??Not every1 has time and money to do that.Govt is not running free martial art classes everywhere.

And of course martial arts dont apply in group. And in delhi rape case the girl had to fight 6 ppl who were well equipped with razors and rods. Even a man who has learned martial arts can attack at most 2-3 ppl not 8-10 ppl.And how can we expect a woman doing it that too when her dignity is being battered. Will she be in that state of mind??

===

And martial arts is never the right solution for cases like eve-teasing and snide comments.Coz if u will answer these with martial arts the men will counter attack with more force...in more nasty manner.

Changing mindsets is a process which will take a long time but it is a must and it has to be pursued.
The current laws only deal the aftermath of rape.
Those laws come into force only if it is proven that rape has happened.
How is that going to stop rape???
Whether the rapist is punished or not is not going to make any difference to the person who has been raped.
People who were driven by hormones and sick minds do not think of the consequences nor care for them nor do they think of what might happen to them if and when they are caught.
Fear will not stop them because they have no fear.

There is only one solution that is bringing up your sons and daughters well till that happens some thing is needed self defence is only one of them.

Laws and measures should be aimed at preventing them from happening.
Make the police force strong and empower them with laws thatw ill enable to help the citizens.

Don't wait till rape happens to take an action on a rapist.Prevent it from happening. There is no harm if the girl is taught to kick her attacker where it hurts.
That will definitely serve him as the best reminder.

At first goverment should give a msg to those sick minds tha a rapist will get punishment anyhow. Unke andar darr paida karne ki jarurat hai pehle...uske baad this selfdefence and other things will work.

I don't understand why females has to learn to defend themselves?
Then what about the law? Law is not responsible for their safety ?
What is the use of having laws made anyway?

Why only females are told how to wear clothes?
How about children, what king of clothes should they wear?

First and foremost the law should be changed.

I'm amazed that even politicians have the audacity to openly blame girls...Why is it that only girls are not supposed to roam after 7??? Then the same thing should be applied to boys as well...

Eve teasing is another issue which is never taken seriously...I remember when i used to walk home from school, a man used to follow me till home and keep passing snide remarks...I used to be freaked out...Self defense cannot work in such cases...

Everything is expected only from women...Women as mothers are expected to "pamper" their sons and "train" their daughters...the sisters are taught to mind their ways while brothers are free to do anything they want...As a result, men never learn to respect women...

if woman know that she cant deal with gang it would be better for woman good that she should not go outside alone in late night .even if she has to go alone in night due to some reason then going in taxi is safe because in taxi there is technique which show where taxi is going .bus auto is not safe
law punish thieve also but it is our duty to close our door properly .giving sever punishment by law that does not mean v should become careless and become sufferer deliberately

MY QUESTIONS

What is wrong in teaching a girl to give it as good as she gets?

The roads and the world belongs to her just as it belongs to a man.Why should she rely on the goodness of men and good behavior of men?

Self defence classes are only aimed at working women and college going girls that group is vulnerable to attacks.

Do these women have to stay out of the roads till the men get some sense into their heads?

What is wrong in making a woman more self confident?

Why so much opposition to helping a woman learn how to defend herself?

Why wait only for laws to be made and enforced?

What is wrong if a woman is taught teach a potential rapist a lesson??
