Chapter 17
Riya hits the floor of the building with a thud. Blood starts surrounding her body. Arjun and arnav's heart stuttered seeing this. they look up to see shyam and dr singh's horrified faces. Dr singh starts struggling to get up but shyam pushes him back inside and closes the door and the helicopter flies away. Arjun and arnav rush to riya with arjun reaching her first.
Arj: RIYA, RIYA.
Riya's eyes flutters open and she drowsily looks up to him. arnav has already gone to call and alert the ambulance. Arjun leaned in to hear and she whispered softly "anjali is safe?"
Arj: she is safe.
Riya struggles with her hand and slowly puts it on his face. she looks at him with knowledge in her eyes and said "stop hurting arjun". And her hands falls down. Her breath stops.
She felt darkness surrounding her with no escape in sight. her breath started to become in short gasps. Feeling a small hand on her face, her breathing slowly calms down and finding the energy, she slowly opens her eyes to stare into the worried eyes of anjali. Anjali is stroking her face, her face stone with her eyes blank. Yet riya could feel fear radiating from her, a fear of loss. Although her hand is feeling leaden she slowly lifts her hand and putting it on anjali's face said "I am okay pari." Anjali silently hugged her, her hug conveying her desperation. Riya hugs her back stroking her hair, soothing her. she felt a thin scar on her neck. Anjali breaks the hug and looks at riya. Riya voice croaks "did it hurt?"
Anj: no di, they gave anaesthesia to be when they did the operation. No side effects will happen.
The door opened with a great bang startling them both. A man wearing a white shirt covered with a grey jacket stood there huffing and puffing as if he had run a great marathon. He reached riya's bed within seconds and holding riya's face in his hands gazes into her eyes deeply.
Ri: shekhar, I don't think you will come to know the state of my health looking into my eyes.
Sh: no, I am trying to see whether the signs of madness is there in your eyes.
Anj: shekhar chachu.
Sh: hey pari, what's up. Other than your idiotic sister jumping out of a helicopter and breaking her head and her arm and also having an unknown injury on her brain, how is life?
Ri: anjali sweety, can you get me my phone please. I am sure there is someone named mona in my contacts who seems to have the name peecha chodo in shekhar's mobile.
Sh: okay, okay. Sorry, sorry yaar.
He then turned serious.
Sh: you should have called me riya when you were in jail.
Ri: shekhar, I had to be in jail for a long period of time in order to inform you. in case you did'nt notice I got kidnapped almost immediately.
Shekhar bends down to anjali's level and opens his arms into which anjali comes. he asks "you are okay right pari?"
Anj: I am fine chachu. Mr arjun saved me and di.
The door opened and all 3 of them turned to see arjun, karan and aisha enter the room.
Ais: how are you feeling?
Sh: I think my client would be feeling much better if you had'nt arrived.
Arj: and you are?
Sh: shekhar mishra. Riya's lawyer. Now what are you going to do about those false charges on riya?
Ais: those charges are being dropped as we speak. Maya woke up and confessed to her part of the plan to trap riya. But we still have further questions for her.
Sh: which she can answer after the doctor gives his permission. Right now she has just suffered from a terrible fall no thanks to you and deserves some privacy and peace.
Ri: I am ready to answer your questions.
Sh: riya.
Ri: I think I can judge myself to be sane enough to answer the questions shekhar. And the sooner I answer the sooner shyam will be caught.
Suddenly seeing a glance between arjun and aisha as karan uneasily shifted his weight, riya felt suspicious.
Ri: what's wrong?
Ais: we just get confirmation. Shyam and dr singh have been killed when the helicopter they were in blasted.
Riya and shekhar said "what"
Arj: investigations are still going on how the blast happened.
Sh: well seems like then the threat against riya is gone.
No one said anything.
Ri: what about arnav and khushi? Where are they?
Ais: right now they are being questioned.
Ri: but why? I mean they are innocent.
Ais: they have got motive. That's why. Now shall we get on with the questions. Or do you want some more time.
Riya agreed and answers all of aisha's questions on how she got involved in shyam's investigation.
Ais: what about when you realized that siddharth was the one who shot you?
Ri: he did'nt shoot me. the video is a fake.
Kar: how can you say that?
Ri: I had taken a course on making of video and on how to distinguish between real and fake video. The fakeness is slight but it is there. Besides I was never shot. I lost my memory in an accident.
Ais: why was dr singh so interested in you? and how did you two first meet?
Riya hesitation was not unnoticed by the 3 of them. she said "he was my psychiatrist 8 years back. I had him arrested on the charges of confinement and attempt to rape. He had got 9 years of imprisonment."
Ais: any reason why you did'nt say this to us before?
Ri: I never thought he was alive in the first place. The last I heard he had died two years ago in a jail fight.
Ais: why did dr singh target you in the first place?
Riya's face became drawn and looked as though it had aged 10 years. she said "he had some pretty crooked ideas regarding who I am"
Arj: what were those ideas?
Ri: i...
She: I think my client has answered enough questions. She can answer the rest after she is well rested. So please leave.
All 3 of them left not before arjun gave a glance to riya. All this time anjali was holding riya's hand tightly as if afraid to let go. riya gently removes her hand and cupping anjali's face said "go and see whether your mr arjun is okay. I will be here."
Anjali looks as if she is going to protest but riya sent her to arjun. She looks at shekhar and said "thank you shekhar."
She: hey, in friendship no sorry, no thank you.
Riya laughs.
She: I will be outside checking with the doctor. If you need to sleep I will buzz the nurse.
Ri: no I think I will just lie for a while. I have slept long enough.
Shekhar nods his head and left to meet doctor not before laughing at riya's warning of not to flirt. Riya looks at the clear blue sky peeking through her window.

After 1 week,
Arjun is sipping chai and watches as the reporter reports of having no further progress on the blast case. Luckily the helicopter crashed in sea. no bodies were found yet. He turns around and is surprised to see riya walking into the garage. Her gait was a little unsteady but otherwise she seemed perfectly fine as if one week ago she was'nt lying on the bed with 8 stiches on her head and her arm fractured. Anjali walks beside her, her face annoyed. Karan and simran who were as usual bickering get up.
Kar: riya, what are you doing here? You should be at the hospital.
Anj: that's what I have been telling to di.
Riya gives a smile to anjali and anjali's annoyed face softens. Anyone could easily see the love between the two of them.
Ri: I am fine karan. The doctors were just being fussy.
Sim: really riya, you should'nt be here. You are still recovering from the fall.
Ri: have you found out who is responsible for maya's death?
Arjun's expression becomes blank hearing the question while karan and simran glance nervously at arjun.
Ri: oh come on. You can't seriously believe that I would let this case go. I know maya died in jail the same night she was brought in supposedly by hanging herself. Anjali told me that you all were working on a few more leads in this case. So what have you found?
Arj: why do you care about maya after everything she did to you?
Ri: I don't care about her. I care about the fact that she brought danger to my door. And I want to know that the danger is still there or not. I can't take the risk of anjali suffering anymore because of my mistakes.
Anj: di...
Riya hugs her tightly with one arm as she stares at arjun with defiance and something akin to fear in her eyes.
Arj: karan, simran why don't you take anjali and buy Chinese. Riya has got back from the hospital and there should be a celebration for it.
Karan understood and took anjali and simran with him with anjali glaring at arjun for not wanting her a part of the conversation. After they leave, arjun pulls out a chair and said "sit." Without a protest riya sits and leans heaving a deep sign showing her strain.
Arj: you should'nt have left the hospital.
Ri: you stopped visiting and karan and simran were not saying anything either.
Arjun just looks at her.
Ri: so should I be worried?
Arj: I don't know.
Riya just looks at him waiting for elaboration.
Arj: maya, shyam, siddharth and dr singh had nothing in their possession that indicates that they were working along with someone that would bring further danger to you and anjali.
Ri: but, something tells me you are not convinced.
Arj: you have'nt been entirely honest with me. you know something which has led the people to you and anjali. I can't know what I have to do if you don't tell me the truth.
Ri: fine let's make a deal. I will be honest with you if you be honest with me. deal?
Arj: why should I make a deal with you? you require me.
Ri: no mr rawte, you are wrong in that. We both require each other. Trust me when I say you will find plenty of uses I can do for you.
Arjun looks at her now suspicion clearly seen in her eyes but riya smiles at him serenely.
Ri: if you are going to accept this deal, then you will also have to accept my condition.
Arj: and pray tell me what is that condition.
Ri: will you marry me arjun?
