Gaurav to add zing in ADHM

Gaurav Chopra has gotten himself a vital role in Sony's Aisa Des Hai Mera wherein he plays one of the central characters opposite the main lead Saumya Tandon (Rusty). The actor who has had a host of good shows behind him from Lavanya, Piya Ka Ghar, Dil Kya Chahta Hai to MTV's Ghoom is all set to spice up the track by playing the new protagonist.

Gaurav Chopra: Looking for brighter horizons!
"I am paired opposite Rusty and the character I play is sure to dramatize things on the show. He has loads of attitude, along with high ideals in life. The positive sparks and spunk between him and Rusty will be extremely interesting to watch. The way the production house (Siddhant Cinevision) narrated the story to me got me motivated to take up the role besides there was no scope for compromise in terms of money. I'd have played this character even if it was starting afresh and taking up this role isn't like replacing anyone. It's a fresh new character in the track sure to intrigue the viewers," chirps Gaurav who got rave reviews for his musical show(Bombay Crush)and a movie in South Africa.

So what kind of a look will he sport in the show?
"I can't reveal much but it's going to be dramatic for television and pretty much eye catching. Also, I can safely say my character is going to be a power dresser. Somone with a strong personality and who comes across as a suave and well educated guy," points out the actor who likes to be well turned out in real life too.
Gaurav will commence shooting from 3 August while his character will be on air in a week's time.

The actor is confident that his character will add enough spunk and give a new feel to Aisa Des... and will pick up steam on its TRP ratings front as well.

Soni Razdan returns to roots

After directing Nazar, she is playing Rusty's English mother Linda in Sony's Aisa Des Hai Mera

After a brief hiatus, actor-director Soni Razdan has returned to the small screen. Director Mahesh Bhatt's better half features in the Sony daily Aisa Des Hai Mera as a British woman, Linda, playing mother to Rusty (Saumya Tandon).

Razdan began shooting for the daily on Tuesday. "This offer came out of the blue. It is not that I don't want to act now," says Razdan, who made her big screen debut as director with Nazar (starring Pakistani actress Meena and Ashmit Patel). "At the moment, I am working on two scripts — one has the media as a backdrop, and the other is a romantic comedy. Writing is not a day-night job, so I could fit in a bit of acting."

Staying afloat

Though she had done a cameo in the SaharaOne show, Koh-i-noor, Razdan had kept away from the small screen for the last few years. "Frankly, I don't know how I would fit into today's soap scenario. Maybe if I try hard, I will," she laughs. "I wasn't really on the lookout for acting assignments. Yes, it was an option. When it came my way, I asked myself, 'Why not?' Doing something more keeps you on your toes, keeps you in circulation and also gives you money," she says.

Though Razdan has been both a producer and actress (Aur Phir Ek Din for Star and Hamare Tumhare for Zee), she is best remembered for her role in Ramesh Sippy's Buniyaad. "There are certain things that endure forever," she says.

Wearing many hats

Adds Manish Goswami of Siddhant Cinevision, the producers of Aisa Des…, "When we sketched Linda's role, we could only visualise Soni Razdan essaying it. She is perfect to play an English woman. Soni plays the role of Kanwaljeet's first wife."

This television assignment, however, will not keep Razdan away from her big screen projects. "When you are producer, writer and director, there are several aspects to look into which takes considerable time. It takes months and years to roll. When you are only acting, you do your bit and move on," points out Razdan, who also features as Preity Zinta's mother in Shirish Kunder's directorial debut Jaan-e-mann.

Actor Gaurav Chopra is back on Indian television with a bang after a 10-month long hiatus. The actor has agreed to a role in Manish Goswami's prime time show Aisa Desh Hai Mera on Sony. Talking about his role in the serial, Gaurav says, "This character is the lead protagonist. He is very strong minded, very ambitious, arrogant but at the same time a good human being. There is no one particular way I will portray this role but almost every few episodes my entire approach will change and I will have to do a lot of thinking before going for my shoot every single day. This challenge excites me the most."

Manish Goswami meanwhile says, "Gaurav is a very fine actor. He has a robust personality and will surely play a huge part in the show's ever growing success." Mahrru Shaikh loves playing a glam mom

First modelling came her way on a platter and when all was going well acting offers also came her way without asking. While she was flying with British Airways she dabbled in modelling. Her modelling career took off so well right with her first campaign for Pears that Mahrru Shaikh decided to pursue modelling as a hobby.

But since the airline didn't allow her to continue with modelling she quit the job and joined Saudia. Thus flying and modelling went hand-in-hand with ad campaigns like Aquafresh, Lifeboy Gold, Zero B and Chiclets for which she wore a swimming costume. A popular face in ads she got an offer from Sony to anchor BSA Star Ki Pasand.

Soon she got tired of flying and decided to quit her job as an airhostess as her acting career took off with serials like Parivartan, Aurat and Hindustani where she played glamorous characters. But the transition to mother's roles happened with Yeh Nazdikiyan.

"The channel and production house convinced me to play a mother. The character was a take-off on Shobhaa De and it was the main lead. I didn't regret playing the role because it was a well-rounded character but unfortunately I got slotted in mother's roles," says Mahrru who is however, happy playing a glamorous mother on television. "Despite playing a character of my age in B. R. Film's Aurat they offered me a mother's role in Dushman."

"Actors don't have much choice. They have to go by the channel's call," adds Mahrru who plays Karun's mother in Kabhi To Nazar Milao. "Like all mothers she is upset with the fact that her son is in love with a blind girl. But when she realises that Sunaina will become her son's strength she starts supporting her son. It's an emotional love story and my character is etched out very well. In fact, all the characters are well structured and that's what really matters." She is equally happy with her role in Aisa Des Hai Mera. But Mahrru agrees that in a daily soap anything can happen as stories are sent for a toss and characters get sidetracked completely.

She feels disheartened when stories are skewed and her role is sidetracked. Like it happened with her in Jassi and Millee. "I had a good role in Jassi as Arman's mother. But later the serial went off-track and my character went out of focus completely," says Mahrru who was equally disappointed with her role in Millee. "I had a my own story and a beautiful track. But they messed it up, made the serial into a kid's show and cheated the audience."

In daily soaps, according to Mahrru, tracks tend to change quickly. "That's something actors don't have a control over. When more than the story, fashion and looks taking over and channels insist that actors should be presentable, anything can happen," she laughs. "In the earlier days serials were realistic and there were no plastic surgeries ," she adds.

Actor Saumya Tandon falls down stairs

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Saumya Tandon, aka Rusty of Aisa Desh Hai Mera injured herself badly after she tumbled down the stairs while shooting for the show recently. A scene required her to run down a flight of stairs. Instead, she slipped and came crashing down the whole way!

The actor hasn't suffered any major injury, however she landed up with a bruised back, several wounds and a nagging pain. But despite the pain, she continued shooting and was back on the sets the next day for a dance sequence.

Says Saumya, "In this scene I had to come face-to-face with Gaurav (Chopraa). It was raining heavily and I struggled with my dupatta and umbrella at the same time, after which I ran towards the stairs. The next thing I knew was that I tumbled and crashed to the bottom of the stairs!"

She adds, "I did an X-Ray and luckily there were no injuries, but I was in lot of discomfort and could hardly walk. But I wanted to continue my shoot; I know how valuable time is!"

Interestingly, Gaurav's recent entry as Samay in this drama was supposed to have a big impact on the story but it seems like his love interest Saumya already bore the impact of him in their first scene together!

Gaurav Chopra is not over Bombay Crush, the hit stage musical of which he was part of in South Africa as yet. The actor is now carrying the song and dance to the small screen. Well, that's how it seems!!

Gaurav who is all set to enter Manish Goswami's Aisa Desh Hai Mera on Sony TV, will do so grandly with an item number choreographed by Seema Desai "It's going to be a great entry. Gaurav is going to be on small screen again almost after ten months. The song is picturised in a pub but I would not like to reveal more about it except that it's going to be a phenomenal entry," says producer Manish Goswami.

Gaurav seemed to be pretty excited about the whole idea. "Though I can't break the suspense I can say that it's going to be something really memorable and etch a place in the viewers' hearts,'' he said. Gaurav plays the role of a spoilt brat returned from London and is the love interest of Saumya Tandon who plays the protagonist Rusty in the show.
