Rusty goes to London
By: Vickey Lalwani
January 5, 2007

After Aisa Des Hai Mera went off air, Saumya Tandon wasted no time in packing her bags to London, where she is currently staying with her sister and brother-in-law.

However, she won't be away for long. Tandon will soon be back to fish for work on television and even films.

Talking to HiTLIST from London, the actress says she is enjoying her stay with her family.

"My brother-in-law came to receive me at the airport, but before I could accept the flowers he was carrying for me I asked for the muffler, cap and gloves that he was holding in his other hand! It is unbelievably cold out here.

Maybe staying in India and getting used to the hot conditions has made it tough for me to handle this weather!"

Just a co-star

Talking about her stay in the UK, Saumya says, "It's a two-hour drive to Cardiff where my sister and brother-in-law stay.

By the time we reached home, he'd already filled me in on all the family news. A lovely meal prepared by my sister followed, and my jet lag vanished. We chatted till 3 am that day!"

Did her sister ask her about Gaurav Chopraa, her Aisa co-star, with whom she was romantically linked? "Oh, come on. Gaurav is just a co-actor in Aisa Des Hai Mera and I share a very healthy and professional rapport with him," she says.

Main bhi star

Saumya also tells us about her brush with stardom when she was out sightseeing in Cardiff. "A woman came up and asked, 'Are you Rusty of Aisa Des Hai Mera?' She asked me to wait till she finished paying for her purchases as she wanted my autograph for her son and mother.

That same evening, a few of my brother-in-law's friends came to meet me at home as they used to watch my show everyday," she adds.

So, what's next on the work front? Saumya informs, "I'm returning to India in the first week of January. There is an offer for a South movie but I have yet to decide.

Talks are also on for TV serials too, but I haven't signed on the dotted line yet. Before that, there's lots more to celebrate,"
concludes Saumya.

Saumya Tandon
Unlike other actors who flaunt their love lives before the media, Sachin Sharma (Shivam in Sindoor) and Saumya Tandon (Rusty in Aisa Des Hai Mera) are trying their best to keep their affair under wraps. Apparently, Saumya was very upset when rumours of her alleged affair with co-actor Gaurav Chopra leaked out.

Says Saumya's close friend, "Saumya was introduced to Sachin by a common friend. It began with a casual conversation, but soon they became good friends. Now they are always in touch over the phone. But she wants to keep the affair a top secret. Saumya is scared of being spotted with Sachin at parties, which can kick-start speculations. But, they are definitely seeing each other."

Sachin Sharma
A close friend and co-star of Sachin, says, "Sachin was highly impressed with Saumya's personality. They are regularly in touch over the phone. Although Sachin loves going out; he respects Saumya's decision of not going out together. I believe they are madly in love."

When contacted, Sachin Sharma said, "Unlike others I don't want to talk about my personal life just for the heck of getting some cheap publicity." On being probed further, he said, "Yes, Saumya is a good friend and we know each other for quite some time now."

Saumya Tandon said, "I am bored of all these silly link-up stories. First, I was linked with my co-star Gaurav Chopra and now Sachin Sharma. I usually refrain from talking about my private life. My career is my first priority for the moment."
