Who will be the wild card entry?
By: Vickey Lalwani
November 3, 2006
working on our sincerity: Sharad and Keerti Kelkar logic? what's that? Narayani Shastri and Gaurav Chopraa love will see us through: Arjun Punjj and Gurdip Kohli abhi toh hum jawaan hain: Ketaki and Rasik Dave

Star One's Nach Baliye 2 is exactly at the half-way mark. The next point of interest in the show is: Which eliminated jodi will return, courtesy the wild card? Will it be Gaurav and Narayani, whose ouster exposed the illogical format of the show? Or will it be Sharad and Keerti, whose choreographer (Kiran) accused them of insincerity? The old warhorses, Rasik and Ketki, or the madly in love Arjun and Gurdip? Or will it be one of Star's favourite bahus, Shweta and hubby Raja? The shoot for the wild card round was completed yesterday, and contestants who are still in the fray, were a part of the audience.

Gujju pride
The episode will be telecast on Monday. Thereafter, voting lines will be open to decide which couple will return. However, the public will account for only 30 per cent mandate, while the judges' marks will play a major role in deciding the outcome.

No jodi had left any stone unturned in its preparations. Clearly, none of the contestants have lost interest in the contest or the prize money. Keerti and Sharad were so immersed in getting their act right that they didn't respond to calls. Rasik was virtually out of breath when he reverted back to us at midnight on Tuesday, saying, "Today, we have practised for 10 hours. Earlier, we were putting in six hours every day. We want to come back. Our Gujarati community pumped in few votes the last time since they were busy with Navratri. This time, I want them to vote for us in a big way. There is a Gujju feel in our performance."

can't afford to be shy: Raja Chaudhary and Shweta Tiwari.
Out in the open
Raja is out to prove that he is good at Western dancing, which he incorporated in their performance. Said Shweta, "Raja has worked very hard, but I hardly got time due to my TV and radio assignments. At times, my choreographer would land up on the Balaji set to make me do a few steps! I have hardly slept since the past few days."

Raja revealed that the couple had to throw shyness to the winds considering they even practised in front of their car in Madh Island (where their Bhojpuri film is being shot). He said, "We would play the music on the car deck and start dancing. We can't afford to be shy."

Public appeal
After last week's elimination, Arjun Punjj said that he and Gurdip hadn't had much time to prepare their dance but claimed that they weren't worried. He said, "We have tried many aspects of dancing in this episode."
Narayani offered, "We will be as dignified as before, but will say a lot to the viewers through this act."

Gaurav chipped in, "You can say that we are out to make a statement this time. Our's is a personalised performance, and not a filmi hero-heroine based one."..

Judges speak: Who should return

Kunal Kohli
Gaurav and Narayani were voted out because they were good, but they have competition now. Raja and Shweta are good, Arjun and Gurdip are not bad, Rasik and Ketki are capable of upsetting the applecart. Kuch kaha nahin ja sakta. The couple I give the highest marks to is the couple I would like see back on the show.

Malaika Arora

Shweta is a terrific dancer, while Gaurav and Narayani didn't deserve to be voted out.

I will decide only after I see their performances

It's a happy birthday for on-screen sisters Rusty and Candy

Sapana Patil Poojary

Saumya Tandon and Gunjan Walia, who play the popular on-screen sisters Rusty and Candy in Aisa Des Hai Mera also share their birthday today.

Gunjan says, "We realised this on the first day we met. When I asked Saumya her date of birth, she replied that her star sign is Scorpio. I was thrilled and asked her if her birthday is on November 3. And she said 'yes'! Since then, we have hit it off very well." Gunjan admits it's a strange coincidence. "Initially, both the characters of Rusty and Candy were to be played by someone else, and we replaced them," she says.

Incidentally, Gunjan is often asked about how she feels about sharing her birth month with Bollywood stars like Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan. "I just say that Ash is first, Shah Rukh is second and I am third!" she says. Strangely enough, November 3, has a distinguished significance in her life. "My parents got married on November 3, and I was born on the same day the next year. And after a few years, my younger brother was on the same day. So I have decided that I will get engaged and married on November 3."

Talking about her birthday plans, Gunjan says, "Unfortunately, Saumya and I will not be celebrating our birthday together as the unit of Kuch Apne Kuch Paraye (she plays the lead in this yet-to-be launched serial on Sahara) is taking me out of Mumbai to celebrate the day. It should be fun."

Meanwhile, Saumya who lost her father last year intends to celebrate her birthday with a quiet dinner with her mother. "I am going to miss my father. I remember every year we would have a party. My father would prepare a dish for me, watch us eat and then declare that he's a better cook than my mom! He really was an innovative cook. His best preparation was a baked dish made of the white part of a watermelon. Nobody could guess the ingredients, but would always ask for more. He pampered me a lot and I was greatly attached to him."

An air-hostess' advantage!

Gunjan Walia's one helluva excited girl who has got to play her dream role of the lead protagonist Krishna in Kuch Apne Kuch Paraye on Sahara One. After doing K Street Pali Hill, Sindoorr and Kkusum, she seems to have finally got her due.

On her return trip to Mumbai from Delhi where she had been to attend a press conference for her daily soap, she was seated along with co-stars Sachin Tyagi (her bro-in-law) and Chaitanya Choudhary (her hero) in the aircraft, when she suddenly saw the flaps going up again in the about-to-land plane. "I also heard the Captain call for the crew and got alarmed because being an airhostess (I used to fly with Jet Airways) before entering the acting scene, I knew what it meant when the Capt. called for the crew."

Meanwhile her co-stars got worried and pestered her for an explanation as Gunjan monitored outside conditions, but she refused to divulge anything as she did not want to frighten them, until everything became alright and the flight landed safely!

That is the advantage of being an air-hostess - you know exactly when things go wrong!

Beyond the pale

The initial episodes of Kuch Apne Kuch Paraye are being reshot since its lead actress, Gunjan Walia, looks pale and ill on screen, having shot with viral fever

Ranjib Mazumder

Kuch Apne Kuch Paraye, a new show which was slated to be aired from November 13 on Sahara One, has been postponed by a week. The production house has decided to re-shoot a few initial episodes with lead actress Gunjan Walia. The reason being, the actress, who had been down with viral fever, looked very pale and ill in the frames. The show will now be launched on November 20 now.

The actress in question, Gunjan Walia aka Krishna says, "I am really upset about the fact that the production house has suffered a huge loss because of me. I have shot extensively for Aisa Des Hai Mera, but here the shooting hours were more erratic. When I was shooting the first few episodes of Kuch Apne Kuch Paraye, I did not tell them about my illness, so that the show's proceedings don't get disrupted. I continued shooting, and I guess my weakness showed on screen. Anyway, I could not continue for long and was forced to take a break."

Of late, the actress has been taking good care of her health. "I am very careful of my diet now. I used to eat whatever I used to get on the sets and never bothered to take care earlier. Since I am not a Mumbaiite, my mother had come to stay with me for some time, when I was ill. Now, the production people, including the spot boys, are also taking good care of me," Gunjan adds.

When contacted, the director of the show, Rahul Mewawala said, "After shooting continuously for six days, Gunjan fainted on the sets. We had completed shooting the first few episodes by then. But, as she was unwell, Gunjan was looking pale and unwell in them. So, we decided to shoot these episodes again."

Unhappy: Simple Kaul
Simple Kaul
is ready to quit Sony's Kaajjal. Simple (who plays Nikki) has given a notice to the producers K Sera Sera regarding this matter.

There are two reasons why Simple does not wish to continue with the show. Firstly, she doesn't get along with her co-actor Shabnam (who plays Paris and secondly the actress is unhappy with her role.

Says a source, "Simple is definitely unhappy about her role, but the main reason why she wishes to quit, is Shabnam. Both keep accusing one another that they copy each other's style of acting. Simple is very uncomfortable in Shabnam's presence. In turn, her performance also gets affected adversely and she is not happy about it."

No hostility

Simple, too, confirms she wants to drop out. She has told the producers to look for her replacement and relieve her as soon as possible.
But she chose to underplay her friction with Shabnam by saying, "Shabnam and I share the same make-up room.

There is no animosity between us. It's just that I feel both of us play RJs and have similar roles. Therefore, I have all the scenes with her. That leaves me with very little to register my individuality. Plus I was promised something, which looked meatier than it turned out to be. I am not enjoying the show."

Shabnam (famous for her receptionist's role in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin) too was not vocal about the fact that all's not well between Simple and her but added a line, which was suggestive enough. "I think Simple finds my role more overpowering than her."

On date, Simple is also doing Manish Goswami's Aisa Des Hai Mera (Sony).

'Aisa Des Hai….' First TV serial shot at Taj Mahal
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, November 28, 2006]

Manish Goswami, head honcho of Siddhant Cinevision has added another feather in his cap, by making 'Aisa Desh Hai Mera' the first television show to be shot at the Taj Mahal, Agra!

Rusty aka Saumya Tandon and Samay aka Gaurav Chopra, celebrate their honeymoon by visiting the splendidly beautiful monument of love, and make each other vows to never let their love die. The episode which will be aired on the 28th and the 29th, will be a romantic's wish come true, with quite a few amorous scenes being shot in and around Taj Mahal.

Well, talking about the entire idea of shooting in the Taj, Manish Goswami further says, "The show is about love, and what better place to emphasise this concept than the very symbol of romance, our Indian heritage and seventh wonder of the world, the Taj Mahal! Everybody who is in love knows the aura of the TAJ atmosphere so we decided to have this as the backdrop to Rusty and Samays' blossoming love. As the title suggests Aisa Desh Hai Mera! Overall the experience was really very good!"

'It was fab and magical'
Shameem Khan
Wednesday, November 29, 2006 23:24 IST

Actor Saumya Tandon recounts her experience of shooting at the Taj Mahal
It was the first time that a show 'Aisa Desh Hai Mera' (Zee), was granted the permission to shoot at the Taj Mahal, Agra. A romantic sequence was shot there between the lead characters Gaurav Chopra and Saumya.
Speaking about it, Saumya exults, "It was lovely to say the least. We had shot the first few episodes in London and then in India. It was fab and magical. For once, there were smiles, laughter and romance in the air when we shot at the Taj. It was almost magical when we shot at Fatehpur Sikri, too. And, the crowds present were amazing. It's different at the metros where we actors can mingle freely with the crowd. But in small towns, television stars are big and they are literally mobbed".
Though Saumya has tasted fame as Rusty, isn't she apprehensive that her non-conventional looks may hamper her growth as an actress. Says she "I admit, I don't look the typical Indian middle class girl. I have modeled for the many saree and jewellery ads. When dressed in bridal finery, I can easily pass off as a pretty north Indian bride. Besides, I am not the kind to get unduly worried about what the future holds for me."
Presently, she is busy playing her part to the hilt. "As per the contract, I can't take up other projects. But I am happy investing all my time and energy in this show that is quite a learning experience. I have been approached for films but I am taking my time to take my next step" says she.
Single but not ready to mingle, she smiles, "I am still exploring my career. There's no time or interest for a relationship yet. There's lots of time for that."

A isa Hai Des Hai Mera is touted to be the first television show to be shot at the Taj Mahal. Rusty (Saumya Tandon) and Samay (Gaurav Chopra) celebrate their honeymoon by visiting the beautiful monument of love. But was it difficult to get the permission to shoot there? "Well, if you go through the right source and have all your documents ready, it's not so much a problem. It took time, but we got the permission fi- nally," explains producer Manish Goswami. Well, talking about the entire idea of shooting at the Taj, he adds, "The show is about love and what better place to emphasise this concept than the very symbol of romance, the Taj Mahal!"

Rusty goes to London
By: Vickey Lalwani
January 5, 2007

After Aisa Des Hai Mera went off air, Saumya Tandon wasted no time in packing her bags to London, where she is currently staying with her sister and brother-in-law.

However, she won't be away for long. Tandon will soon be back to fish for work on television and even films.

Talking to HiTLIST from London, the actress says she is enjoying her stay with her family.

"My brother-in-law came to receive me at the airport, but before I could accept the flowers he was carrying for me I asked for the muffler, cap and gloves that he was holding in his other hand! It is unbelievably cold out here.

Maybe staying in India and getting used to the hot conditions has made it tough for me to handle this weather!"

Just a co-star

Talking about her stay in the UK, Saumya says, "It's a two-hour drive to Cardiff where my sister and brother-in-law stay.

By the time we reached home, he'd already filled me in on all the family news. A lovely meal prepared by my sister followed, and my jet lag vanished. We chatted till 3 am that day!"

Did her sister ask her about Gaurav Chopraa, her Aisa co-star, with whom she was romantically linked? "Oh, come on. Gaurav is just a co-actor in Aisa Des Hai Mera and I share a very healthy and professional rapport with him," she says.

Main bhi star

Saumya also tells us about her brush with stardom when she was out sightseeing in Cardiff. "A woman came up and asked, 'Are you Rusty of Aisa Des Hai Mera?' She asked me to wait till she finished paying for her purchases as she wanted my autograph for her son and mother.

That same evening, a few of my brother-in-law's friends came to meet me at home as they used to watch my show everyday," she adds.

So, what's next on the work front? Saumya informs, "I'm returning to India in the first week of January. There is an offer for a South movie but I have yet to decide.

Talks are also on for TV serials too, but I haven't signed on the dotted line yet. Before that, there's lots more to celebrate,"
concludes Saumya.
