New Delhi
“Ishita auntyyy!” Ruhi came screaming from Bhalla’s place to her room. She was busy packing and preparing for her Paris trip. Yes, her research paper had been shortlisted for the International conference. She was so nervous when she had opened her e-mail and soon her nervousness turned to excitement as she had gone through the content of the mail. She told the news to her family in the same excited voice. Her appa and amma had been equally happy too; glad to see the glimpse of their old Ishita, with her amma sending prayers to her god and blessing her daughter. However, she became reticent once Ishita told her she would be visiting Paris alone for a week. However, her other family members had taken it into their hands to persuade for permission. Thus, simple cajoling and emotional tactics from appa, Vandu akka, Bala jeeju and Mihika and her amma had finally assented to her trip.
“Aap kahin ja rahi ho Ishita Aunty?” Ruhi’s voice put brakes on her train of thoughts.
“Haan beta” Ishita replied warmly hugging Ruhi and putting her into her lap. “Mere work se related trip hai to main Paris jaa rahi hoon”Ishita continued.
“Paris kaha hain” asked Ruhi.
“Well, Paris is in France. Yaha se bahut door hai, flight se jana padta hai. 10 hours lagte hain” Ishita explained to Ruhi and then showed some pictures of Paris to Ruhi on her phone.
“Wow!” an amazed Ruhi replied “It is so beautiful. Aap kitna enjoy karogi!”. Ruhi’s big round eyes began even bigger with wonder.
“Haan beta, par main aapke liye gifts zaroor laungi aur dher sari pictures bhi. Aap batao aapko kya chahiye waha se?” she asked.
“Mujhe to Paris ke barey mein kuch ni pata, aapko jo achalage aap le aana” Ruhi replied thoughtfully.
Ishita laughed softly at her response. Ruhi was such a sweet and innocent girl but her the wisdom she showed sometimes was beyond her age.
“I’ll miss you Ishita Aunty. Papa bhi mujhe chhodkar chale gaye kahin work karne” Ruhi said in a dull voice.
“I’ll miss you too bache par Papa kaha gaye?” Ishita asked concerned, worrying if Raman Bhalla has moved out of Delhi again leaving Ruhi behind with her grandparents. This man can never change!
“Papa bhi kahin Europe gaye hain. Unhone kaha wo 15 days tak wahi rahenge. Waha par unko bahut important kaam hai aur agar wo kaam ho gayato wo first aa jayenge. Aur papa ne promise kiya hai ki wo mere liye dher sare gifts bhi layenge. Europe kaha hai Ishita aunty?” Ruhi said in a go.
Somewhat relieved at Ruhi’s answer Ishita answered Ruhi’s queries while Mihika entered the room enquired Ishita if she has completed her packing, “Packing ho gayi akka? Aaj raat ki flight hai aapki. How I wish I could also come with you. Paris sounds so exciting!”
“Packing is almost done and don’t worry main tumhare liye bhi gifts le aungi” said Ishita.
“Haan par main yaha kitni bore ho jaungi, aap bhi ja rahi ho aur Mihir bhi business trip par gaya hai Mr. Bhalla ke sath”
“Aww my poor baby! Koi baat ni tab tak Ruhi hai na tumhare sath, kyu Ruhi? Aap masti karna Mihika aunty ke sath” Ishita said lovingly drawing Ruhi and Mihika into a group hug.
With that Ishita finished her packing and prepared to leave for the airport.
Italy
Raman and Mihir had finished a meeting with their Italian clientwho was looking to enter Indian market. The meeting was successful and theirweek-long discussions and negotiations had finally concluded successfully.
“Congratulations bhai!” Mihir hugged Raman cheerfully. “Thiscalls for a celebration” he continued.
“Congratulations to you too. Tujhe pata hai na tere bina yesab possible nit ha aur of course, celebration to banta hai. Let’s go out forsome Italian wine and dine.” Raman replied.
After their mini celebration, Mihir left for shopping. “Bhai,Mihika meri jaan le legi agar main uske liye kuch exclusively lekar ni gaya to”Mihir had said with a horror-struck face. “Aap bhi chalo, meri help kar dena”
“Tu ja aur kar shopping. Mujhe koi shauk ni hai ladies ke liye shopping ka. Abhi se hi joru ka ghulaam ban gaya hai” Raman mocked.
Mihir would leave tomorrow morning for India while he had to continue his business trip in Paris. He had once dreamt of a vacation in Paris with his ex-wife Shagun. Her thought was enough to rise bile in his stomach. After his divorce, he had distanced himself with nearly everything related to Shagun. He did not eat the food she liked, did not visit the places she frequented and in the process he has distanced himself from the most precious gifts related to Shagun-his children. He had also moved out of his home, left the city but he had to come back as it was where his family leaved. And now Paris. But the thought of going to Paris did not hurt him as much as he had thought. Weirdly, he was looking forward to it. There was something strange, he could not put a finger on it but it was as if something momentous was about to happen.
