*** EDITED

Excellent post Megha...

To be fair to the makers, they stayed away from the stereotyped-heroine avatar for a long time.

They had Mihika, who could beat up a bunch of people when mistreated. Even at the beginning of this Ashok track I remember she said I will beat up Ashok if he tries anything with me. Why should I be afraid and sit at home?

And then there was Ishita, the woman who, once upon a time, told her mother she didnt need a husband. She was happy to adopt a child alone. She didnt seem to be the type who bowed down to anything or anyone.

Even Ishita's marital home was quite refreshingly different from a typical in-laws/new bahu model. Any grief Ishita got from Simmi & Toshi was because they believed Param, and not because Ishita was considered a witch who could lure Raman away from the Bhalla family

*** and then, things changed (I am of the opinion they started changing both these women in preparation for the new time slot)

They wanted to make sure they didnt turn this into a typical saas-bahu soap even with the new timeslot. Instead they tried selling these 2 characters to us as evolved, unique, morally righteous, selfless and strong women.

Only, they went too far.

No one with an ounce of self-respect would bring their husband's ex into their bedroom. Not just once, but twice. This has nothing to do with purity, goodness or humanity. Shagun could have stayed in Ruhi's room/Simmi's room/even Romi's room. Even when we have guests at home, and we need to accommodate them, the 'single' people lose their bedrooms first. that's just like an unsaid rule no?

No one would tolerate an outsider insulting their parents (EVEN if their parents were at fault)

No one would go out of their way to 'trap' a molestor only to show the truth to the molestor's partner (both cases Param-Simmi & Ashok-Shagun)

A fair and evolved woman wouldnt say she need not give character certificate to anyone. She would try and understand why someone even thinks she needs a character certificate.

A modern and morally righteous woman would have slapped her husband the day she was 'attacked' by him

I am not even going into the relationship they showed between Mani and Ishita in the beginning. I think they went way overboard.

A modern woman doesnt have to display loss of intelligence to show gain of maturity... That is what I am trying to say

ZD - if You read this... this post of mine was dedicated to you😎

Good post lucky

Well said

Unfortunately, we live in a society where being good and kind = selflessness and even an ounce of selfishness is equated with being bad. Every aspect in life is about choices and every choice comes with pros and cons. Even good deeds can come with bad repercussions and one needs to be smart to know when to step back from doing a good deed - which unfortunately isn't the case with the way Ishita is depicted - which again I attribute to something I have mentioned in a lot of my posts - the twisted sense of "ideal women" that the CV's have in mind.
What I want to see is a smart women, one that has self-respect, who knows to protect her family and husband and daughter - not a women who can be easily manipulated, who forgets and forgives everything in the name of being good, who willingly puts herself and her family at risk for the mere prospect of being selfless, who is shown to marry the very people who abuse and manipulate them.

It seems to me that all positive female characters, who start of as strong, independent women end up being self-sacrificing women that no one wants to be like. The CV's and writers need to realize that just as much as real life inspires them, reel life can have an impact as well and they need to be cautious about the social messages they are portraying on screen

This is the first time that I am watching an Indian show while it is being aired. I also regularly come to IF to know what's going on with the show.

I have to admit: it is MENTALLY tiring to watch an Indian show.

I love KP and I love Ishra. In the beginning, whenever someone on the forum would talk about Shagun coming back to Bhalla house, I would get so mad but I wouldn't voice out my feelings. I just didn't understand what kind of idiotic person would accept their partner's ex in their home. This does not happen in my world. But I'm not from India, I don't understand how Indian shows work and with time, I have learnt to my detriment (mostly to the detriment of my mind) that it's normal to see such things on Indian shows. And I found out about TRPs - the reason why we have to bear with illogical tracks.

So now I watch YHM only for KP and Ishra and the lovely Ruhi. I don't really have much hopes that Shagun would grow up, develop a spine and self-respect and start being independent. Adi was born without a brain. His mother brainwashed him during her separation from Raman and despite seeing Ashok's truth many times, he still hates Raman. There is no character growth on this show except for Simmi - that was one pleasant surprise.

Can't there be a platform where audience and creatives can interact? I feel that coz of TRP audience, CVs feel like they can show audience anything and get away with it. Don't they have a moral responsibility towards their audience? Agreed this is a show for entertainment purposes, but it is the most popular show and it is followed by millions of viewers. People can be influenced by such regressive tracks.

Since this is a 'rant' post, I would like to list my grievances too 😆

1. Shagun. Most people here think that Ishita is the dumbest character, but I would like to give the stupidity crown to Shagun. I hate this character. She has no morals, no self respect and no brains. If I were the judge in the custody case, I would give Adi's custody to Ishita too. Shagun always needs a man to support her, and the support is always of a financial nature.

2. Adi. Grow up child. Be a brother to ur sister and start thinking on ur own. Agreed u r a kid, but kids are smart nowadays! Can't u see how needy and dependent ur mother is? Can't u see how happy Ruhi is with her parents? Don't u feel ur father's love, need for u?

3. Ishita and Raman. Please start talking to each other instead of the usual nok-joks. True I love them, but as mature adults, u 2 need to start talking about ur issues. Raman forcing himself on Ishu and then the 2 did not even talk about it! That was ridiculous.

4. Ishita. No woman would ever tolerate or accept their partner's ex in their house. This is not done! I can understand the heart of gold but I cannot relate to the stupidity.

5. Raman. I miss the old RKB. Please start asserting urself again. You used to be so clever. But TRP monster got to u too.

I can't be bothered to write about Mihika - another TRP victim.

So nowadays, my brain is on the 'off' mode so that I can enjoy Ishra scenes and watch my KP. Dunno how long this will last coz I'm dreading Shagun's entry in B house.

Megha ( I hope I got ur name correct 😳) I was discussing this with Paru. This Mihika marrying ashok is just a recycling of track of Ekta Maya. That's what happened in Another of her show where the male lead sister went n married her rapist n came back home with maala around the neck.
I am revolted seeing Mihika and the attitude she is showing as if she had done a great thing! I no longer care for her coz she is very selfish n thinks too highly of herself. I care a hoot if it is a drama or real.
As u pointed out, Why not show Mihir marrying her despite n inspite of everything ashok did. That would be nayi soch which the nmero uno channel keeps on propagating! But sad! Rishta wahi, soch bhi wahi purana type!
As for Shagun wat to say! Today my heart went for that child Adi. He is desperate to keep his mom happy. N she on the other hand will use him to get her happiness or revenge! Such ppl do exist
unfortunately, I see it very often in my job!
But Ishita feeding her on humanitarian ground...is lame n only for drama sake ! she n her husband can help n should help because after all the woman is the mother of their son n she is related to them. But there is no need to show the mahanta to such extreme. Again the purani soch about the heroine of Telly land continues to prevail.

i guess Cvs now want us to believe that Ishita is Dumb!

No I think Ishita will continue to be human, but if she sees Shagun eyeing Raman she wont spare her. With Ruhi, she is confident too. Things have changed now. Unfortunately the great Raman Bhalla does not have a spare room in his house!

Very good topic, here is what I have to say

I have met 100s of women between New Delhi and the city I live now, young, old, exceptionally educated , uneducated domestic workers, religious, atheists... I dont know of ONE woman who would do what Ishita did...

Domestic workers in India have to deal with this crap frequently, but EVEN they would NEVER accept the ex wife or the other woman.

I am NOT sure WHAT category Ishita falls under...😕😕
Even HINDU scriptures DO NOT recommend polygamy...

I know Ekta does not fall into any sample set. She is the oddest creature that has been inflicted upon my 20 years of watching Desi TV...

Even if Ishita is faced with a situation where she has to tolerate or accept hubby's ex... I cannot imagine WHAT compels her to de-lice Shagun's hair or spoon feed her... its OUT of the realm of any MODERN Indian wife's roles and responsibilities...

I DO NOT accept DT's justification of "Neki kar dariya mein daal"😡
As an employee she is compelled to justify her employer's actions

But its not mirroring the societal norms of today's India...
I watch a show on US television called sister wives, it chronicles the life of a few polygamous families...I am also told certain religious groups in Utah encourage polygamy... EVEN IN THOSE shows the wives are NOT best friends...😡😡

I am thinking Ekta might be pushing the legal envelope here, by bringing Shagun into Bhalla House... because according to HINDU Marriage Act... a man can only be married ONE woman legally... I know Raman is not married to Shagun... YET...The way the winds are blowing that day is not too far away, IMO😡 under the obeisance of Ishita Bhalla

I am baffled at Ishita's reluctance to show hatred or resentment for Shagun... she has been extremely harsh and punitive on RAMAN at various times during the show... but her compassion for Shagun makes me wonder...😲 its illogical, ludicrous and distasteful for STRAIGHT WOMEN LIKE ME😡

IF the CVs had NOT masked the whole Shagun-Ashok-Mihika wedding fiasco under Ishita's sudden urge for intimacy with Raman, I WOULD suspect Ishita had feelings for Shagun...
However harsh and brutal that it sounds, there happens to be NO justification for Ishita Bhalla's love, affection and care for the wretch of a woman...

If she can go as far as bring Shagun to her BEDROOM a DAY AFTER she is getting intimate with Raman... makes me wonder... if there is something wrong with Ishita's sexuality...

NO STRAIGHT WOMAN (pun intended, straight of the mind woman as well) would do what Ishita Bhalla is planning to...

Disclaimer: IF RAMAN BURNT HER WITH A BURNING CIGARETTE OR WHIPPED HER OR SLAMMED HER FACE TO THE WALL to force her to bring Shagun home then I TAKE EVERYTHING I SAID ABOVE, BACK... and APOLOGIES to Ishita Bhalla😉😛he very well COULD have since he is the worst male lead😡

P.S. I have NOTHING against gay people, some of the smartest people I work with are gays or lesbians👏👏

Just posted on Nisha's thread
A friend once said ekta can do families but cannot do marriage becos she is not married that may be true now I will add one more thought I think she cannot do marriages becos she is from the filmy world and around her she has only seen dysfunctional marriages everything she has shown about marriages in her show a wife, a saut, a "helpless" husband are possible in filmy environments!!!!

When you go and show that dysfunctional stuff on so called middle class background on TV shows watched by even lower strata you are definitely damaging the social fabric IF and only IF people are taking the show seriously!
