We should not look at it as mocking.. will it be fun to watch a pure serious wedding ? If we see Gujarati, and all everywhere TV shows include some fun part.. that way they shown Punjabi also in fun mode.. so it just not right to think it is mocking .. at leafs I am glad that some show took interest to portray a tamil family ..

I don't think this show is mocking the Tamil culture, at least, there is an attempt to show diversity. That being said, being a Tamilian, the one thing that bothers me is the lack of accuracy in using the language. I understand that it is not a Tamil show and thus some leeway should be allowed, but continuously using bad grammar and context makes it annoying to watch at times The least that can be done is to get the few Tamil lines that are used on the show straight.. Also, I think the person portraying Mrs.Iyer is a wonderful actress and she is a perfect match for Mrs. Bhalla, but she does need to tone down the accent a tad bit. The few times I have heard Mr.Iyer or even Vandhu speak in Tamil, it wasn't bad at all. So yeah, I think just a little finesse is necessary.

It is not mocking but ignorance and laziness to research on the culture which is entirely CVs fault. Ekta mata doesn't pay them enough & hence they do half @ssded attempt and end up mocking it 🤔

in tamil thy say "KADICHAA TOOPARTHA"...its jst that case...😕😔

I posted this on other thread . I feel that this was more appropriate on this thread too .

I understand your frustrations. As Tamilian it must be very frustrating to put up with wrong pronunciations .Marathi speaking actress acting as South Indian lady and trying very hard to portrayal her role , which is resulting into over acting . I give her lots of credit. I agree at times her character is very annoying but this doesn't bother me. Many shows have used local language to make an impression but no one else in the Show speaks Tamelian why should she ? What really upsets me is how Punjabi culture is represented in the show . Few dialogs and Mrs Bhallas representation during Hindu ceremony is unacceptable to me . I know our Hindu rituals differ from state to state but mrs Bhalla not knowing basic rituals is very insensitive .
Media plays a significant role in entertaining, informing, and instilling values to diverse audiences in society. The danger lies in stereotypes that are integrated into messages used to sell show for entertainment .Generalizations and stereotypes are a modern day ying and yang. One cannot exist without the other emerging.Stereotypes are a subset of generalization but seem to stand alone nonetheless. They are created when knowledge is lacking or unattainable and the substitution of thoughts and opinions are implemented. This often leads to misjudgment and unfair discrimination toward certain people and situations. Not only do stereotypes affect opinions and thoughts but they also affect behavior. They are found everywhere, and though portrayed innocently, they affect and impact the mindset of many.

Writers should be careful with stereotyping cultural differences. I am not Tamilian or Punjabi .I am an Indian who grew up in very diverse society and thought to respect every culture around me . For few laughs in the show they need not to insult both cultures . I have Tamilian friends and Punjabi friends . I have attended wedding from both side and enjoyed the cultural difference in our religion . Both cultures had something to offer and enjoy and learn from .

Amen!

But then, I think its more so ignorance than the intent to mock.
Anycase Personally, Ive put this in the back burner for now. There are several other positives to the show that am willing to not pay too much attention to this issue.

Hahaha.. Anuu😆
