I also thought the same .It would have been nice .If Ishiat calls her Jiju as Mama .ie..Machan/Mama/Athan..

Good post.
I did feel offended and disappointed initially..
I felt even the Tamil family they portrayed with all those brass vessels was probably from the 19th century. The accent is a bit annoying. The first episode Amma was holding what it seemed like a Telugu paper and reading😆😆😆
But then I brushed it off thinking
1. When has a Tamil family even been portrayed in the best of light?
2. At least here the people look decent as opposed in Chennai Express where all of Deepika's cousins looked like tribes
3. Amma's accent kills me.But it isn't that bad either...
Overall I like the concept, character picks, and the story. So Ive decided to let this aspect of it pass.. for the time being...until it again begins to bother me again.

I don't take movies n soaps seriously. Not tamilian.Ya ishita n her dad not looking like tamilians n they were showing telugu paper n saying may be ishita mom knew telugu don't know.ishita mom actress seems trying the accent. Ishita mom n raman mom are for comic timing n for drama also.even telugites, kanadas, malayalees r considered as madrasi as south means only tamil they knew it seems lol in real also most of them.ya cvs ve to do some research n in real n films also most of the north ppl feel superior than south lool even in films also they protray the reality.all actirs r doing good job.i find both leads moms characters OTT n loud with humor touch.even I doubt will sikhs present for hindu rituals when they shown jagrata.r raman r hindu punjabis r sikh punjabis.it can be passed as nowadays few religion ppl attend other religious rituals also.😊
In name of entertainment everything is mockery irrespective of sex, religion, race, relationships, mrg etc...nowadays movies n soap entertainment=mockery n glorify illegal n things tat not to be glorified. Movies glorify abt sex(unhealthy) n violence n soaps glorify submissive women n idiotic n stupid things for idiot box.

Actually it would be "Athimber"...
And considering Divyanka might've struggled with it. The creative director probably did not stress on it😆

over all.it is refreshing to watch tamil culture on tv. but it is not necessary to show them with moacking accent
i m a tamilan
and many of my.cusins speavk hindi with out accent.
call me racist but still it irks me when raman s mom insults ishu s mom as madarasi
even for comic situation
they can show tamil culture more normal like other culture

Indian TV shows always show things in a very stereotypical manner and especially Ekta, whose serials put a lot of emphasis on said stereotypes.

I'm Punjabi and I always cringe. You can have Punjabi Hindus, but the Bhalla family is shown to be Sikh (they have photos of Sikh men hung around their house...probably ancestors)...and yet, they're not really Sikh. Show Punjabi-Hindus man. That solves some problems.

I don't know much about Tamil culture so I can't comment what is wrong or right, but I will say that this portrayal is better than Chennai Express...and beware, its sequel, rumoured to be named 'Punjab Express', will come soon according to some media outlets *facepalm* 😆

yeah right this is very stereotypical.
i dont know much about tamil culture. but i am punjabi . and they always present punjabis in such a care free funny manner. and they dont even precisely tell who they are. punjabis could be hindu , muslims or sikhs.
here in first episode they told raman full name is raman deep bhalla
and now they call him raman kumar. i wonder if kumar is punjabi name?
dont take these dramas seriously
i havent seen punjabis like taht around which they show on media
