Fiji stuns TV star Dhami

"FIJI is just so full of love."

These were the words of Indian television star Suhasi Dhami.

Ms Dhami, better known in Fiji as Abha, said she never expected so much warmth and love from her fans.

"The past two shows that I have performed at have been awesome and unimaginable and I am glad so many people have been enjoying the concert so much," the Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli actress said.

"The organisers have set up a very nice concert platform and all Fijians are so friendly, wonderful and full of love."

The popularity of her TV show in the country still surprises the star, who is humbled by the reception and said she was happy locals could relate to the show.

She also said she was touched to learn that her show had gained recognition from not only the Indo-Fijians but the iTaukei as well.

"I really feel amazed by this."

She said one of the shows she was looking forward to was the one in Labasa.

"I know many stars don't go there so I am very lucky to go to Labasa and meet my fans. I look forward to welcoming them."

Concert organiser Dharmend Shyam said the concert in Tavua attracted about 3500, implying that the show was gaining popularity in the country and tickets were selling fast.

Fan excited about win

LAISA Tadai of Naseakula Village in Labasa could not believe her luck when she received a call for a special breakfast with India's Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli main actress, Suhasi Dhami, commonly known as Abha.

The 48-year-old woman will be among 49 other winners from around the country who will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with Dhami after taking part in the FMF Chow promotion competition.

Mrs Tadai was also given a free pass to watch Dhami's concert at Labasa's Subrail Park on Sunday night.

She said this was a lifetime opportunity because she was a big fan of Dhami.

"I sent five FMF Chow wrappers and last Friday and I got a shock when I received a call from the organisers who informed me that I was one of the winners," Mrs Tadai said.

"I really can't believe it because I only used to see Abha (Dhami) on FBC TV but now, I will have the chance to have a meal and spend some time with her in person.

"This is really unbelievable and I am so looking forward to talking and having breakfast with her, I am just so excited."

Mrs Tadai said she would be meeting Dhami in Viti Levu after her eight shows in the country.

"I want to thank FMF and all the other sponsors for bringing Abha into the country as most of us really love to watch her show," she added.

Meanwhile, Dhami flew to Nadi yesterday morning to prepare for her fifth show at Prince Charles Park.

People brave the rain for show

WET weather conditions failed to dampen the spirits of about 5000 people who gathered at Labasa's Subrail Park on Sunday night to watch the show of one of India's most popular TV serial actresses, Suhasi Dhami.

The Indian actress, known to many Fijians through her role as Abha Prasad on the hit TV show Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli, was greeted with cheers by the enthusiastic crowd who braved the rain to witness her performance.

Apart from just performing contemporary Indian dances, she performed Pacific Island dances and also briefly talked about the TV show.

Along with Dhami was Bollywood comedian Johnny Lever's brother, Jimmy Moses who also kept the crowd roaring with his jokes and entertainment.

Moses told this newspaper that this was by far, the biggest crowd they had ever come across during their show here in Fiji.

"The people are just so friendly and the support is overwhelming," Moses said.

"There is a big crowd here in Labasa and we really can't express how happy we are to be performing in front of a jam-packed park."

The Abha concert is scheduled to take place at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Thursday before it moves to Lautoka on Friday, Ba on Saturday and in Suva on Sunday.
