Yes, thanks. Earlier, I could only see the title of the book written in bold, and then the rest of the review appeared in so light a colour that I could only see that there was something written, but not read it. It was only this one post, so I thought you might have used a font colour.

This writer is a genius! I can't believe I was awake until 3am just because I couldn't stop reading until the case was solved. The way he has used mathematics and physics in this equation to first conceal a murder and then solve it is phenomenal.

Two friends, Ishigami and Yukawa. One is a genius in mathematics, and the other is a genius in physics. This story is not about who committed the murder, but rather how it was concealed and then solved.

With the murder scene being revealed in the first chapter itself as well as the murderer, one would think that there is no more suspense left in the story. But you couldn't be more wrong. This is when the actual cat and mouse chase starts, with Ishigami being the mouse and Yukawa being the cat. The twists and turns kept me hooked until the last page, with every chapter making the case even more complicated and interesting. There is so much we don't know until the last few pages.

This isn't like any other murder mystery, it has angst and explores so many other emotions and bonds such as friendship and love. Just how far can you go to protect a loved one?

The only thing I was not impressed with was the grammatical errors in writing. I just wish it had been written by a better translator or maybe proofread properly.

Either way, the book was so good that I didn't want it to end. Going to read the other books in this series now!

Nice review, Hinna! (Double-checked what name I typed🤣)

I just read Judge and Jury by James Patterson, and being reminded of this story with your review made it even more obvious why I didn't think very highly of Patterson's work.

(Spoiler)

When I read about the part where he was stalking the woman and planning what to write in the letter, I was rather shocked and a bit creeped out. When his real plan was revealed, I felt so relieved, because even if he was a murderer, I had started to like this character.

And that last prison scene! I don't think I've ever read a detective story that's so emotionally charged, or one that focuses so much on the characters besides the detective himself. As you said, it explores human nature and bonds, which is a total contrast to the regular novels where it's more about the detective and we don't get the chance to explore the other characters that well.

Thank you🤗

I thought Patterson is a really propular author. I havent read any of his work but I really want to, along with Agatha Christie

I agree. I loved how the story was full of twists but I would never accept his character turning negative.

I also liked that instead of a whole story based on us guessing who the criminal is because that was revealed at the beginning itself, so it let us focus on how the case would be solved instead and how the woman would escape

Have you read any more of his books?

Also did you read Mexican Gothic or was that someone else?

Which popular and highly rated books did you not like?

From the top of my head, the ones I remember are

1. Normal People by Sally Rooney

2. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

3. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (unfortunately, I don’t think I have liked a single book by John Green)

Well I usually dnf books that I dislike so I'll try to think of only those I've completed and hated.

The Harry Potter series.

Ariadne by Jennifer Saint

The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri

Amish Tripathi's books.

The Midnight Library was the most recent disaster I read.

Even I disliked The Fault in Our Stars.

1. The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

I hated everything about it. Usually even if I don't like a book, I get the hype but I really don't for this one. It was predictable and boring.

2. Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

I liked this book only for the individual characters but I couldn't feel the romantic tension between them at all despite the main trope being my absolute favourite. It was such an underwhelming reading experience.

3. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

The twist infuriated me. It still gets on my nerves.

I don't know how I will feel about TFIOS now but I liked it a lot back when I read it. I didn't like his other book though, Turtles All The Way Down. His characters are too pretentious.

I am planning to pick up Normal People soon. I want to know why many people don't like it. 😆

The silent patient was one of my fav books. It kept me glued until the last page😭

Also I need to add The Kiss Quotient. I dont know what people liked about it, it was so boring and I felt no chemistry between the couple. The Bride Test was much better in terms of emotions.
