I think I asked this question somewhere but since we have new members, I’ll ask it once again.
Which popular and highly rated books did you not like?
From the top of my head, the ones I remember are
1. Normal People by Sally Rooney
2. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
3. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (unfortunately, I don’t think I have liked a single book by John Green)
Started reading Homegoing last night, let’s see how it goes.
The Devotion of suspect X
This writer is a genius! I can't believe I was awake until 3am just because I couldn't stop reading until the case was solved. The way he has used mathematics and physics in this equation to first conceal a murder and then solve it is phenomenal.
Two friends, Ishigami and Yukawa. One is a genius in mathematics, and the other is a genius in physics. This story is not about who committed the murder, but rather how it was concealed and then solved.
With the murder scene being revealed in the first chapter itself as well as the murderer, one would think that there is no more suspense left in the story. But you couldn't be more wrong. This is when the actual cat and mouse chase starts, with Ishigami being the mouse and Yukawa being the cat. The twists and turns kept me hooked until the last page, with every chapter making the case even more complicated and interesting. There is so much we don't know until the last few pages.
This isn't like any other murder mystery, it has angst and explores so many other emotions and bonds such as friendship and love. Just how far can you go to protect a loved one?
The only thing I was not impressed with was the grammatical errors in writing. I just wish it had been written by a better translator or maybe proofread properly.
Either way, the book was so good that I didn't want it to end. Going to read the other books in this series now!

Anxious people
Forty rules of love (it wasnt so bad but not that great either) by elif shafak
Maybe someday by colleen hoover
Vicious/Vengeful by VE schwab
The guest list (forgot the writer name)
The shining/doctor sleep by stephen king
Midnight library by Matt Haig was good but I dont understand how it became a best seller😆
Classics: The great gatsby, the picture of dorian grey
The house in the cerulean sea
Crazy rich asians
Beautiful disaster by jamie mcguire
Homegoing seems overrated too
As you can see, theres very few books I enjoy😆

I haven't read many highly rated books🤔 and probably never came across any book I didn't like.. I'm too picky or I find stuff to like 😆
About John Green, TBH, I haven't read his books but I do follow his YouTube channel and his videos/blogs are highly motivating! I watched the limited series Looking for Alaska which is based on his book and I loved it.
Is it because of the death of MC that you don't like it or just his style of writing? Would like to hear unpopular opinion😆 I have the book Paper Towns but haven't read it yet. Lemme know😳

2. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
3. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (this one truly takes the cake🤢)
If I go long long back, there are some Chetan Bhagat books too that I gave one stars like Revolution 2020 and One Night @ the Call Center. But the above are the ones I have read in the past year or two.
