Chapter 7 – Domino Effect

At the resort:

Sarthak informs the manager about the situation who volunteers to share the CCTV footage with them. The trio head to the security room to view it right away. Sarthak then informs the operator to play the video from the night before. The operator informs them that since they had cameras at multiple locations, they would need to look at a lot of footage to get what they were looking for. But if they had a time frame in mind then it would speed up the process. Sarthak immediately informs him to play the footage from all the cameras post 10 pm last time – this would have been the time when the rest of the family would had left the venue leaving Kalyani and Malhar behind. The operator also informs them that their CCTV footage only captured video and not audio. Since this was their only source to identify the gravity of the current situation, they said that it was ok with them and instructed him to quickly start playing the video.

The video starts playing and after forwarding a couple of minutes, they notice Malhar in one of the camera’s footage. They continue watching it and what they see rocks their very existence. The entire ordeal would have been captured on it but without audio. Nobody could hear what Malhar or Kalyani were conversing but it looked as though Malhar was attacking Kalyani. It also clearly showing Kalyani taking him to the car and leaving from there. Malhar could not believe his own eyes, he clearly did not remember any of this. No matter how troubled their relationship was, he never wanted hurt his Kalyani. He starts losing his mind, trying to figure out what was happening. Sarthak was shell shocked, he could not contemplate that it was his nephew on the video doing such things. Anupriya was fuming in anger, she pulls Malhar and slaps him hard. She threatens him that if he did not reveal Kalyani’s location right away then she would forget the fact that he was her son-in-law and would get him arrested herself. Sarthak, not wanting to create a scene at the resort, instructs the manager to forward them the footage of the entire party and requests Anupriya to continue the rest of the conversation at home. She furiously walks out of there, followed by Malhar and Sarthak.

At Ahilya Niwas:

As soon as they reached home, Anupriya informs everyone about what had happened and starts hounding Malhar for answers. Malhar drops to her foot and confesses that he did not remember anything. He also professes that he would never knowingly hurt his Kalyani and that Kalyani was his lifeline. Anupriya shouts at him and mocks his love, asking him whether love for him meant marrying someone out of hate. She looks to an already guilty Sarthak and tells him if this is what his upbringing was and questions -- in which world was it ok to attack one’s wife? Sarthak could do nothing other than bow down in shame. She also berates him for having double standards – she points out that he had thrown a party the previous day, for the incarceration of the man who had abused his niece while his nephew was attacking his own wife at the very same party – what kind of justice was this?

Sarthak who was trying to figure out the pieces of this puzzle begs Anupriya to calm down and asks Malhar if he remembered anything at all. An inconsolable Malhar nods his head in disagreement. Sarthak who was a seasoned attorney had seen many cases like this before. As a result, his first instinct was to get a tox screen panel done on Malhar’s blood. Clearly something was amiss here and he wanted to get some answers ASAP. He also tries to reason with Anupriya by saying that Kalyani could have been abducted by any of her professional enemies as well, she was the DM of the city after all and would have definitely made some enemies along the way. He suggests that they should wait to see if they get any ransom call before jumping into conclusions while continuing to search for Kalyani.

Aaosaheb who was quietly watching things unfold, finds her window of opportunity to get back at the Ranes and starts provoking Anupriya. She exclaims that this must have been premeditated all along. The Rane men must have planned to avenge Swara’s death by killing Kalyani and continues on by saying that they were now only pretending to forget things so that they could get away with it. She goes on to add that they must have purposely kept the party at a distant location so that they could easily get rid of Kalyani’s body. Sarthak and Malhar cry in disagreement while Anupriya who had now had enough of this, calls the commissioner’s office to report Kalyani as missing. She informs him that she had enough evidence to prove that Malhar was behind this. Malhar begs Anupriya to let him go out and search for his Kalyani but she refuses. Minutes later the police arrive to arrest Malhar. Sarthak’s hands were tied this time as the evidence was against Malhar. So he lets the police take Malhar into custody. Anupriya files an official FIR against Malhar and lodges a missing report for Kalyani. Avni was enjoying watching this house of cards come down and engulf in flames.

Will they ever be able to locate Kalyani? Was she still alive? Where was she? Has she been abducted? Why was there no ransom call yet? Was it truly an enemy who has her now? Will Malhar be put away for good? Find out more in Chapter 8.
