industry cannot make a star, it's decided by the audience!

By Vinod Talreja | Published: November 4, 2017 7:01 pm

We met another star kid recently who hasn't given his two cents on this topic till now. So it was the perfect opportunity to know his take on this much-discussed topic of nepotism. Yes, we are talking about Akshaye Khanna (son of veteran actor late Vinod Khanna), who is being appreciated for his stellar act in the recently released film Ittefaq, which also stars Sonakshi Sinha and Sidharth Malhotra. Akshaye, who is known to very shy and kind of recluse shared his opinion on nepotism with us, and we have to admit, it's logical to a certain extent. Akshaye, who didn't know how the debate started told us exclusively, "It's good to have a debate about anything that the society seems to want to debate. Now talking about nepotism, I don't know how it started. There are many aspects that people are referring to nepotism.

He even feels that it's the audience that decides the fate of any actor, and not the people of the film industry as the Ittefaq star explains, "Let me give you one argument that will end the debate. Whether you are in favour of nepotism or against it, the basic fact is that anybody who has made it, in any field, it's because the people have decided that this person will be successful. It is something that is not decided by the film industry, but the audience. Today, a David Dhawan's son, the audience has said we want to watch. The film industry has not said it. The 200 to 250 families of film industry cannot make a star. They can make a film, but not a star. I can launch an actor. Today a Boney Kapoor's son, the audience has decided that we want to watch him. Arjun Kapoors face is accepted. There are many actors who come, people decide that we will not watch this person and his face is rejected. So the whole debate of nepotism falls flat on its face. I can nepotise somebody by making a film, but I cannot say. Today Abhay Chopra (director of Ittefaq) is Ravi Chopra's son and BR Chopra's grandson. He is coming from a legacy that is very rare. There is not a studio in Hindi cinema which is bigger than BR, or a banner as we call it these days. Today if I can do a film, Sid can do the film, Sonakshi can do the film, and Karan and Shah Rukh can produce it, whether Abhay gets to make another film or not is decided by the audience. So nepotism falls on its face.

But what about the fact that certain projects are created to elevate certain star kids ? Outsiders don't get those kind of opportunities. What about the fact that these star kids are ridiculously trained, groomed and manufactered. Not all star kids but some of them do get extra special help which in turn does help connect them to audiences.

Can a random outsider get opportunity's like Highway as their second film?

Yes ultimately audience decides but some star kids do get a lot of help in connecting to audiences!

Alia is talented. Please let it go. Its not like Athiya Shetty was in Highway. šŸ„± And besides didn't this industry give oodles of chances to a non-actor like Aishwarya just because of her looks?

Athiya Shetty doesn't have strong support. She will get work here and there because of her dad but she doesn't have a Karan johar or any strong support system. Even she didn't deserve work after Hero but still got Mubakran.

In terms of Ash, let's not forget how many projects she lost due to groupism

And you think if Athiya was as remotely as good as Alia she wouldn't have gotten support from Karan? Karan would've jumped at the opportunity to sign her if she was any good. Who knows why he dumped Sara, maybe she didn't meet his expectations.

And Ash made her own bed with her fights with SRK, Rani and Salman, no one else is to blame. You cannot have the luxury to be a mediocre actress and then pick fights with the bigwigs as well.

Athiya in her first film wasn't any better or worse than Alia in Student But again she took a year off to train for Highway and ofcourse all the background help she received helped. People really need to stop making it seem like Alia is naturally talented - she isn't, she was trained and assisted to be how she is. I still don't think she is any great and I also think that with the right support and help anyone can be good. even a nonactor (according to you) like aishwarya can deliver if she works with a good director .Edited by Shaitan-Haiwan - 6 years ago

C'mon she more than proved that she is talented with movies like Udhta Punjab and Highway. Doesn't matter if she is natural or learned her craft.
