😲

@Bold Absolutely not true. Most people were over powered in meetings arranged to talk jobs, accomplished people based on the Weinstein story. Please put responsibility where it belongs, on the assholes who use their power for casting couch.

I thought for once Akshay Kahnna was smart, but his example is pretty inept. The case in point is that David Dhawan got an offer from KJO. A sure shot in the industry. He was given many films by KJo just like Alia. Sonam's dad produces her film. Regular people that come to make it on their own don't have money and connections. It's just stupid to say that David Dhawan's son was accepted by the audience, he was forced upon audience.

If there is one rare star from the common crowd than there are 20 varun, alia and ranbir taking their places. Opportunities are limited in the film industry.

Genuine question, HOW? How were the audience forced to spend their hsrd earned money movie after movie on David Dhawan's son?

Nepotism exists. Alia, Varun, Ranbir et al were handed opportunities on a platter that a standard outsider gets only after years of struggles and sacrifices. But to deny that some of these star kids have managed to stay because they have what it takes to be here is as silly as denying nepotism itself.

Biggest advantage star kids now hv high expenses on movie promotion and their own PR. Which cover up mediocre acting. With nepotism audience r just getting well packaged promoted star kids that too with very few option to choose form.  Edited by Bazigar - 6 years ago

can you please give me few examples of movies which were hit because of promotions? Even Salman's and Srk's movies are flopping due to subpar content. Kjo's SHANDAAR(star kids) was promoted heavily Baar Baar Dekho (outsiders) was well packaged with killer songs but both flopped. All this money spent on PR gimmicks might get them 100's of articles but not a 100 crores film.

Very nice interview. 👏 No wonder I dont get this whole OTT debates on Nepotism. Yes it exists, and it exists in every field so does in movie industry. But stars are not created due to that. Audience is the ultimate judge !

Forced might be an abstract concept, but saying Varun Dhawan has made it on his own and b/c audience love his film is completely untrue. When his films are released - audience isn't offered anything other than what's being played. We go see movies to socialize with our friends, family, etc, when we go see films we don't go see them b/c it has Varun, b/c that's the only thing playing in the theater. For example, when there are multiple films played at once - the audience has more choices, if you only have a choice between Varun Dhawan film or nothing - they you're forced to see Varun Dhawan's film. Varun Dhawan should thank his lucky stars that he's getting roles b/c of his father or else he wouldn't last a day in this industry.

I've said several times
Opportunity is a factor of nepotism. Success is a factor of talent and luck.

Akshaye Khanna is partially right. The audience does decide who will succeed. But that does not mean nepotism falls flat on its face.

Nepotism does give opportunity. Without a star parent, Akshaye Khanna may never have entered the industry. Without a star parent, some people wouldn't get opportunities despite flops. The lack of a star parent prevents many talented individuals from getting a shot.

So while we cannot take away from the success of stars, we can acknowledge the privileges that made it easier.
