People falsely conflating success with access to opportunity, two are completely different things. Nepotism is the practice of favouring your own family and friends, with or without merit. Most of these star kids wouldn't be here if it were not for their parents.

When his films are released - audience isn't offered anything other than what's being played. We go see movies to socialize with our friends, family, etc, when we go see films we don't go see them b/c it has Varun, b/c that's the only thing playing in the theater. Humpty Sharma released two weeks after Ek Villain and 2 weeks before Kick, Dishoom released after Sultan and 2 weeks before Rustom Mohanjudaro, Badrinath had a clash with Kong Skull island, Beauty and the Beast and Rajkumar Rao's Trapped released a week after, Newton Bhoomi Chef released around Judwaa so AUDIENCE had plenty of choices before and after his release. They chose him lol. I don't know about you but I'll never go out with my friends and spend 1000 rupees everytime just to socialise when Varun Dhawan movie is releasing. And do you want him to clash his movies with likes of khans or anyone so that people have choices? And there is no need of him to thank his lucky stars. Since you're talking about his Dad here's 2 cents on that, he was against of him doing Badlapur but he still went ahead and did it not only it was boxoffice succes but got critical acclaim too. Judwaa 2 prolonged his fathers ailing career since his movies flopped really badly before that. Working with Shoojit next and then a YRF's next. Spotless box office record working with different banners what else can he do prove naysayers wrong?

It's an age old debate. The history has proved that non Bollywood family actors have ruled the box office.

can you please give me few examples of movies which were hit because of promotions? Even Salman's and Srk's movies are flopping due to subpar content. Kjo's SHANDAAR(star kids) was promoted heavily Baar Baar Dekho (outsiders) was well packaged with killer songs but both flopped. All this money spent on PR gimmicks might get them 100's of articles but not a 100 crores film.

But opportunities are what we are talking here. Today Ranbir would be a has been if he did not have the Kapoor name based on his BO record. Abhishek, a thing of the past.

While outsiders face casting couches and insiders are handed jobs nepotism does exist.

And yet Akshay kumar who is real outsider has highest no. of flops and so did AB. Bollywood tries to protect stars as they are assets. It is difficult for audience to do name recall of a star. So once fan base is established they are given chance after chance to prove. Ranbir is still on star ranking after all the flops (sad state of Bollywood but true). These things are important for Bollywood. 😊
