Naina p.o.v.
Naina applied her lipstick for what would be the 6th time. Each time she would start applying it and divert off into this mornings incidents. Once again, the lipstick had gone off track onto her cheeks just as her mind clouded up. It had been such a day for Naina, nothing was going her way. The only person she could possibly blame for all this is her husband. She had been trying so hard to control her feelings for him, but one move and all her control went out the window. How could he kiss her like that? She thought. His small peck on the cheek had turned out to have outrageous effects.
From burning the milk, to putting sugar instead of salt for the gravy, Naina had done it all today. Embarrassment after embarrassment, murmur after murmur, she heard it all too. How could the always organised Naina fumble? Well today she learnt that it was possible. Not to mention how much this gave her sister an opportunity to pull her leg. She recalled her words clearly, "toh Naina, kuch hua Kya? Ab to Karan bhi teek ho gaya hai, hmmm zaroor kuch toh hai, warna meri behen chai ke cup ke siva sink me tea kyu pour kar rahi hogi". The memory made her shy once more.
Naina had nicely avoided any eye contact and direct conversation with Karan after that incident. Thank goodness he went to office now, she thought, at least I get some time to calm myself. A knock at the door brought Naina out of her day dreaming. There he was as dashing as in the morning, he walked in and placed his files on the table, plopping himself in his chair. Naina's eyes flicked to the clock on the wall, he was early, quite early. Usually he would get home round 6 but not today, when she needed to be away from him the most. She looked up to see his eyes staring at her, she gulped, before she could move a muscle he was at her side kneeling next to her.
Her heart started skipping beats. He slowly placed the tips of his fingers on her cheek and starting rubbing off the lipstick that she had spread on it. Her breathing rate increased. Their closeness twisting her stomach once more. He was concentrating, his brows strained as he removed the last of the pink and looked back into her eyes. Slowly his hands moved to her shoulders as he spun her round to look in the mirror, ab lagrahi ho na meri Naina ki tharah. Meri Naina... the words replayed in her head, a smile came to her lips along with the pink hue that often adorned her cheeks.
He stood up straight now, and she managed to conjure up a sentence, tum aaj itni jaldi ghar wapas kaise a Gaye? He smiled, woh actually aaj party hai na. She slapped her head, yes of course how could she forget, it was a party for Karan after all. Her sister had chased her off anyway, she didn't want anything disastrous happening in the party because of baffled Naina. Karan walked to his table and opened his briefcase pulling out a bag from inside.
Yeh tumhare liye, he said as he slowly placed the package into her hands. Woh aaj ki party mein agar tum yeh pehenogi toh mujhe accha lage ga. she slowly opened the package to find a plain black net saree, shiny and filled with sequins. Naina was shocked to say the least, she had no idea Karan could pick out something like this just for her. It touched and warmed her heart. Thank you Karan she said. He grinned at his achievement making her heart jump once more.
Karan p.o.v
He had dressed himself quite nicely, and allowed Naina the chance to decorate herself as he called it. It had been a hour since she locked him out of their room, but still there was no sign of her. A slight click of the door, and he turned round to see what was an amazing sight. The saree attached itself around her body. His voice caught at his throat. Her lipstick and make up just enough to highlight her beautiful eyes and that smile that tore his heart right down the middle. Naina blushed under his gaze but he couldn't help but analyse her further. Wearing silver heels and carrying her phone in one hand, with shiny silver necklace, earring set to go with it, she looked astonishing.
Beautiful, he managed to say. She nodded a thank you. He offered his hand and she hooked hers in it. He felt lucky at this moment, he had a wife like no other, he thought. She was truly the beauty with the brains. As they stepped down the stairs, many pairs of eyes turned towards the couple. When they reached the bottom, more compliments followed from family, followed by a Proud speech from grandpa dearest. " toh mere devar ab saree bhi kareed lete hain, pulled Meghna, kuch seeko usse Kunal.
The party continued with many colleagues talking to the couple until finally it was dancing time. The whole room turned dark apart from a small circular area which had a dim spotlight over it. Being the star of the day, Karan and Naina had to lead the others onto the dance floor. The idea had got her visibly nervous. He comforted her and guided her to the middle. The crowds cheered around them. "Tum pareshann muth ho, bus hilthe jao". She paled but nodded.
For once, it was not Naina who gave the confidence. He slowly wrapped his fingers around her hip, her stomach churned again at the feeling. The other hand slowly took hold of hers as they started spinning and gliding on the song, Tum hi ho. They danced never allowing their gazes to move from one another. Her breathing grew deeper against him. They forgot that they were being watched. Continued in their merry way, until the song slowly came to an end and they finished with the iconic pose. The claps snapped them out and they both shied away.
Naina p.o.v.
Their first proper dance was too close for comfort. Her heart still hadn't studied itself. After a little while, the guests had started to leave and so she had come up to their room. She was proud of Karan. He had learnt the trick and trades of business quite well. Now he had a lot of colleagues and friends who liked him as their boss. She stood on their balcony looking out to the stars and the moon. She heard the footsteps close in from behind. She didn't need to turn to know who it was.
Karan came next to her and slowly held her hand in his. The warmth spread into her. Kya dekh rahi ho? He questioned. Woh chand itna accha lagraha hai na... she answered. Haan accha toh hai par tumhare aage nahi. Sh shied away, looking down, The dark clouds in the sky began to rumble and the steady shower began to pour. He slowly turned himself to look at her and lifted up her chin. Their eyes met, her words catching in her throat. The raindrops slowly dripping from her hair, he brushed her hair carefully aside and pulled her closer to him. Naina felt the shivers down her spine. A sudden thunder and she jumped and hugged him. He smiled and wrapped his arms around her. Sab kuch teek hai, he said. She nodded against the nape of his neck. They stood like this until Karan felt Naina tremble under him. He stepped back and slowly wrapped her with his coat. She took it gratefully as he guided her back indoors.
When she returned from the washroom, she noticed that Karan had slipped into a new pair of clothes himself but his hair was still dripping wet. She looked at the towel in her hand which she was using to dry her hair and decided to do him a favour. So she walked right up to him and slowly started to wipe his hair. He looked shocked and amused. As she dried the last strand, she turned to leave but she felt a tug on her arm, her heart stopped and before she could contemplate what happened she had been pulled back and was now cradling in his lap.
If it were physically possible, she could have sworn that her heart would pop out any moment now. It drummed in her ears. Her breathing accelerating. Karan finally broke the moment of silence, tum ne abhi tak jawab nahi diya hai Naina, he reminded winking. Tum Kya chahthi ho, he asked. Her eyes widened as the pinkness returned. It could have been the tension in the room, or her uncontrollable feelings finally expressing themselves, but before she could even think clearly, she had kissed him. Given him a peck on his cheek, a replica of this morning, a tit for tat scene. And now she slid from his hold and ran off to the cupboard. He looked surprised, he hadn't anticipated this result, but he smiled.
As the night came to a close, Naina lay in her side of the bed, her hand entwined with Karan's who had fallen fast asleep, but Naina didn't know whether sleep would come to her today. Her life was changing and this was just the beginning she thought and now that a Karan had got an answer, he wasn't going to stop at anything. Her heart fluttered at the thought.
