Naina p.o.v.
Naina couldn't sleep. She never had this room to herself much. It was more her dis room than hers but they both always slept together here. However, today her di went off to sleep with ma and that left Naina all alone. Normally she didn't mind a bit of lone time but today she wanted some distraction. The past few weeks she had gotten used to sleeping in the warmth of Karan's arms. His strong muscles wrapping around her gave a full sense of safety as she would drift into a blissful sleep. Today sitting on this large double bed by herself, made her heart twist.
She missed him so much. She never thought she could miss anyone in such a way. She had spoken to him some hours ago and let him get off to his much needed rest. Well her mother had walked in and she had cut him off in a hurry but she was glad she did otherwise he would have never kept the phone. He needed a good head for office tomorrow. She couldn't possibly keep him up just because she couldn't sleep. She had lived in hostels for years and she had been able to bear living away from her mum but this was a different sort of feeling. One she would never be able to put into words. It was as if she was herself but not. Her body was here but her soul was there within Karan.
She moved from the bed and rested near the window. She opened it and saw the moon. It was a full moon and it looked beautiful. She imagined her Karan smiling down at her. She gave the moon a flying kiss and rested her head on her hands and sat down in a chair. She didn't know when the exhaustion of all the days work finally set in and she slept off. The wind slightly playing with her hair.
She awoke startled by a musical tone in the air. Her heart thumped heavily. Could it be a burglar? It was nearly 5 in the morning. The sun was still not up. Convincing herself with some courage she finally peeked out of the window. The road was empty. Some cars parked silently on it. The music filled the air again. This time she jumped. She had to be hallucinating. This was Karan's guitar piece. It had to be. She had heard him play it before. A small tune he had put together for the kids.
She looked out again. This time she strained her head to see round the edges of the street. Then from the shadows of a tree, a lone soul walked out into the middle of the street and looked up at her. She didn't have to think twice. She knew who it was. His eyes sparkled in the moonlight. His hair tousled by the wind. His t-shirt pasted on his chest. Her man. Her love. Karan. Soon behind she saw another shadow approach and she thought about screaming out to Karan to be careful but then she realised it was none other than her jiju. She giggled.
Karan passed over the guitar to Kunal as he hoisted himself on the pipes and climbed himself up. She watched and worried that he shouldn't slip as he took a step at a time and reached up to her room. Karan, she said grinning. Naina, he grinned back and he came towards her grabbing her in his arms and twirling her around in the air. She twirled her hands around his neck as he slowly set her down. Their foreheads came together and they stayed like this appreciating the moment.
Ahem ahem.. came a noise behind them. They realised that Kunal had also climbed the window behind them. Naina, agar tum mujhe meri biwi mila do toh phir hum sab romance kar sakthe hain, he said. Naina blushed. Mein di ko bula laati hoon, she said smiling. Karan winked back. Jaldi aao, he whispered. Naina nodded and went off. It was more difficult than she had imagined but somehow she had managed to wake up di from their mothers bed and drag her out of the room without raising suspicion.
Naina, tum kya kar rahi ho. Kahan lekar jaa rahi ho mujhe? Meghna argued trying to pull herself free. Please di, bas aap room mein chalo mein sab kuch batha doongi. She dragged her sister into the room and watched her freeze seeing Kunal. He gave her a smile and they hugged. Naina felt a pair of arms circle her waist, his breath hot in her neck. I love you, he whispered. Her heart jumped. She felt at home once more.
Karan p.o.v.
As his brother rushed off with Meghna to the terrace, Karan twirled Naina in his arms holding her firm. Meine tumhe bohot miss kiya hai, Naina. He placed a small kiss on her cheek. Par Karan, papa ko acha nahi lagega na, tumhe wapas jaana chahiye, she argued. Oh toh tumhe papa ke liye bura lag raha hai, par mere liye nahi. Ek mein hoon jo tumhare liye sab kuch chod kar aise raat mein chor ki thara milne aaya hoon aur tumhe sirf ghar aur papa dikh rahi hai. He grunted in anger and folded his arms over his chest as he turned away.
Naina felt bad and she slowly went over to his side and hugged him from the back. Tumhe batha nahi hai ki mein kitni kush hoon par humme apne ghar aur responsibilities bhi boolna nahi chahiye na. Agar papa tumhe datnge toh mujhe bohot bura lagega na? She asked. Karan turned round and grabbed her close. Dekho tum tension mat lo, dadu sab kuch dekh lenge. He gave her a small kiss on her forehead. Ab bas mein itne effort karke aaya hoon na, mujhe ek kiss dedo. Naina eyes went large. Kya! Karan please chodo na. Ab maa ki utne ke samay a gayi hai, she pleaded. Koi humme dekhlega, she said. Nahi mujhe chumma do, he demanded. She struggled to get free and knocked the brass pots that were on the table as they came tumbling down.
In the next few moment, no one knew what was happening. Chaos ensued. The lights in the house were coming on as each member began to wake up for the noise. Karan had grabbed a cloth from the rack, covered himself and was running towards the stairs to go up to the roof. On the way, they met Kunal who was coming down from the terrace to see what was the commotion and having realised what happened quickly pulled a table cloth over his head.
Both of them were running back up the stairs when suddenly chote maamu and Vaibhu began screaming chor chor, pakde gaye. The girls looked at each other and saw that both their maamus were holding the men by the back of their shirts with a rolling pin and stick in their other hands. Karan and Kunal still had their heads covered as they squirmed in their grip. The other were all gathered around them. Even Shardha mom, looked quizzingly. Vishal started approaching them. Mama, batha nahi yeh log Kya chura kar rake hain. Poochiye inhe, insisted Vishal.
Abey tum logon ke himmat kaise hui. Lo yeh lo. And with that they were bringing down their sticks to hit them when the girls jumped into action. Nahi mamaji, they screamed as they both went and stood in front of their hubbies. Yeh tum dono Kya kar rahe ho. Hato, hum chor se poochtach karna chahte hain. The girls didn't budge. Everyone was staring at the scene with confusion. Finally Meghna got her voice, mamaji woh yeh chor nahi hai. Nairan backed her up, haan chor nahi hain. All the while, Karan and Kunal still nicely covering their heads nodded.
Everyone looked at each other and at the girls. Toh yeh dono kaun hain? they asked. After a slight hesitation both men took off their covers and revealed their faces. The shocked faces of the families turned to grins and everyone began to laugh. The girls blushed pink. Toh yeh baath hai, asked bade mamu. Shardha maa approached them and pulled their ears, badmaash bache. Sorry mom, the boys chimed in. Then began a session of hugs and reunions.
