In HW for instance that is how it works most of the time. They send out requirements and you go and audition. You land the part if you are good. That is how people like Lupita Nyongo landed an Oscar winning part straight out of drama school. That is how the system is supposed to work.

Only in BW are people given a career because Mommy or Daddy were good. 🤔

nepotism exists in Hollywood too. forget about movie industry nepotism is rampant there even in the television industry. i have seen many articles complaining about nepotism in Hollywood too. 😆

People have tried, but most have failed. Who has had a superstar career like in BW ?

Will Smith tried with Jaden, he even got a studio to sponsor it. After Earth failed so miserably it spelt end of Will Smith career.

Tom Cruise has a son who is a DJ, not in movies.

Tom Hanks son is Colin Hanks. His career is nothing like his dad.

Jennifer Aniston's dad was a soap actor, but friends was a massive hit. Her movie career is a flop.

Meryl's daughter does not even have the same last name as Streep and is an actress, but not as successful or famous as her mom.

The big success stories are Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone who are outsiders. Emma Stone is supposed to have made a powerpoint presentation as a kid as to why she must act and her mom and her moved to LA to audition. Show me one instance where a dad or mom has sponsored a kid and made him or her famous without merit. I can't think of any in HW.

There was more nepotism in Hollywood in the past I think compared to the present

Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh's daughter Jamie Lee Curtis debuted as scream queen in horror thriller Halloween and became a successful mainstream actress

Debbie Reynold and Eddie Fisher's daughter Carrie Fisher became famous and beloved actress of Star Wars series

Goldie Hawn's daughter Kate Hudson

All the Baldwin brothers ek ke baad ek aaye but only Alec Baldwin made waves as an actor and still making waves as Trump's alter ego on SNL 😆

James Brolin's son Josh Brolin

Martin Sheen's both sons Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez became actors

Gwyneth Paltrow is the daughter of producer director Bruce Paltrow

Jennifer Aniston's parents were also actors

Tom Hank's son did get a debut but couldnt do much as an actor compared to his hugely acclaimed dad

Oh I think Alec has more or less earned his place as an actor after all this while. 😆
It is nepotism in HW too, but all these people have more or less earned their stripes and none are in the recent present. I can't think of one person in the recent present. HW now is comprised of outsiders on top. It has issues with white actors getting more chances but nepotism has not really existed for years or even decades as a problem I think unlike BW where it is like a plague now.

The discussion has taken an interesting turn.. 😆
..I think it's best to say that no industry is free from human politics if not nepotism.. Just minor differences as to the instances of nepotism winning over fairness - that too on a case by case basis.. :)

There have been cases of nepotism , there have been cases where merit won, and in some cases - both did... in both BW and HW.

I guess if we look at BW as a whole industry and all the movies it is shelling out except commercial/mainstream ones, maybe it doesn't look like nepotism 'rules' the industry? :)

I cannot give a statistical representation of it haha... maybe will try to do it, (peeps join in to add). Let's take a cursory glance of the movies that are released/in the making but were in the news in the past few days on IF..

1) Battle of Saragarhi --- a movie in the making starring Randeep Hooda, no extra details as to the rest of the cast
2) Begum Jaan -- Vidya Balan
3) Trapped -- starring Rajkumar Rao
4) Phillauri -- Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh
5) Hindi Medium -- Irfan Khan
6) Naam Shabana -- Taapsee
7) Sarkar 3 --- Amit Saadh, Yami (mentioned it for outsiders)
8) Toilet Ek Prem Katha --- Akshay, Bhumi
9) Raabta --- Sushant, Kriti
10) Bairelley ki Barfi -- Ayushmann, Kriti, Rajkumar Rao
11) Drive -- SSR, Jacqueline
12) Anarkali of Arah -- Swara Bhaskar
13) Meri pYaari Bindu -- Ayushmann and Parineeti(is she star kid?)
14) Reloaded --- Sid Mal(let's forget for a minute he is KJo's chaheta :) , Jacqueline
15) Badshaho -- Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi
16) Simran --- Kangana
17) Golmaal --- Ajay, Tabu, Shreyas, Parineeti

as opposed to ones where main stars/star is star kid

1) BKD --- Alia, Varun
2) JJ - Ranbir
3) Dutt - Ranbir
4) Half GF -- Arjun Kapoor, Shraddha
5) Judwa 2 --- Varun
6) Munna Michael --- Tiger
7) Haseena --- Shraddha
8) Mubarakan --- Athiya Shetty, Arjun Kapoor
9) Noor - Sonakshi
10) Kaalakandi -- Saif Ali,
11) Chef --- Saif Ali Khan

^^^ just a brief notes... correct me if I am wrong anywhere
Ones in italics are movies with mixed cast - some outsiders and some starkids.

Also, I have excluded movies by three Khans.. they are their own brands so.. 😛

Source --- wikipedia.

...I guess it is evident, atleast in the present situation that the movies go to outsiders and starkids equally...

One thing is true though, the big budget or highly publicised ones are starkids movies, but aren't we the ones that ultimately make movies hit? 😊

kehne ko to arjun ka bhi boney ke saath relation nahin tha. daniel radciffe's mother had something to do with HP. fanning's sister actress hai, sofia coppola nepotism ka product hai. thor ka bhai bhi industry main hai. so the bottom line is hollywood is not immune to nepotism. 😆
