II wondered what was taking Akka so long, she looked at the door a couple times, asked Amma

"She must have started wandering
You know her, Bala got his Diwali bonus, she has a long list of things she wants to buy for baldie

II chuckled

What is she buying ME?" she asked eagerly

"What do u want kanna? Appa's FD matured, the one in Vysya Bank, he started 7 years ago?" Amma reminded

"Oh aduva?" "Why is he encashing it?" II asked shocked

"There is a 1.5 years left now, there are multiple DDA schemes announced for Deepavali, pottu paapome nu" (lets try applying)

"Ayyo ma it will be 188 Sector in Dwarka, almost in the middle of Haryana"

Amma looked a lil hurt

"How can we afford South Delhi?" she said II somberly

"I am sorry ma, I didnt mean it badly"II felt embarrassed, shoving the chopped cabbage to the side furiously to hide the shame, Amma moved deftly between the sink and the stove

"We dont know what the medical bill is going to be, its Safdarjung this time, Tanjore Chithappa send Rs.50,000 this morning" "Appa said" "ENDA MOOLAIKI?" (How will it even begin being enough?") Amma was angry

"Appa should have sent it back"

Amma eye signalled

"We all have pride no? Appa has pride too, he doesnt want me bad mouthing his brothers, how ever useless they may be" Amma whispered

Appa held baldie and cooed... Shravu shot darts on the bald head

"DEY" "ONE MORE TIME I see a dart any where neat motta papa, I will break the gun" II warned

"She scolds like a mother. Good good" Amma beamed with pride

"I always scolded the rakshasan like a mother"

"Appa tried to dodge Shravu's darts

"Are u here tonight da?" II asked

"I dont know I will go when Appa comes" Shravu paused and looked out the window

"Looks like ur parents dont want you or baldie, I am taking u home" II promised

"Take baldie home" he laughed "He has no hair, " he stated the obvious

"Appa said we can go shopping for fire crackers even for Navaratri" Shravu said with pride

"Where da?"

"Khari Boli" he said
"KHAARI BHAOLI" Da adu" II corrected him

"Amma said since I have been quiet when motta papa sleeps I can buy the noisiest rocket and bombs"

"Come with me da I will buy you" II begged

"Nandu already got a whole box full" he said
He ran from one corner to another... "His box is THIS big" ge said

II looked at Amma... Amma nodded uncomfortably

"He has call centers no, in Chennai, he sent someone to Sivakasi and had it shipped" "Appa was saying insurance for shipping that stuff must equal the retail price in Delhi" Amm said in awe

"Paati can we get from Sivakasi also?" he asked

"We will get from here kanna"

"She is so sweet, she called three times, and said can u please send Shravu, the boys can get started? Tan ne bahut mangwaya hai" Amma smiled

"She is sweet

"How is Manya?" Amma whispered

"She is OK, she doesnt talk much with me ma" II was hurt

"Yenn?" Amma asked

"I dont know... we fought one day" II said

"Ayyoyo" Amma was horrified

"Not HER. Umm AVANODA" II mumbled

"ISHITA" Amma hissed

Appa darted many glances curiously wanting in on the juicy gossip

Amma took the cabbage from her and threw it in the wok, it sizzled, handed II the cooked dal so she could mash it up for the currying process... II inhaled deeply

"This smell doesnt give me nausea" she said innocently
At the heeng and curry leaf and sesame oil scent in the kitchen

"Umm I went shopping, he was furious I didnt answer my phone" II explained

"Paavam, he is so sweet, why do you trouble him this way?" Amma asked

"I didnt do it deliberately, I shouted, he never shouts just hisses and says a bunch of things, we hit each other"II spoke with a glint

Amma clamped a hand on her mouth, stunned her daughter would actually come to blows

"IAM KIDDING"II laughed uncontrollably

"Terrible behavior" Amma admonished

"And then I think she was upset with me" II mumbled

"Why do u fight so much?"

"Because he drives me crazy" II said smugly

Akka walked in, fuming as if she actually had a fist fight with someone...and went straight to II's room and shut the door
Amma and Appa exchanged meaningful looks

Shravu chased his mother into II's room
The baby snoozed in Appa's arms
