I also understand the underlying message in this whole skirt fiasco, not to judge someone based on their clothes. The fact that she said she wears skirts goes against her character.

But you are completely right you can't generalize a whole group based on what one individual does or says. Like I said I had no problem with her wearing the skirt, it was just her statement. Maybe I am blowing this out of proportion because I have faced personal opposition based on what people in India see in Indian media on American people.

That's exctly it Mehvy. People don't see why some of the states girls would be upset at this.

Delana, I find it offensive. That's what matters and I consider myself a pretty liberal person. If it can offend someone like me, you can imagine then how offensive this must be. By the way a lot of people who liked the mini skirt also justify the slap, what does that say? What do we say here? Some of these people by the way are NEW profiles, I have noted. Unless we know these people were active on the forum and did not speak up, then we have a bone to pick with them, but until then, we cannot start accusing them.

Right now the issue is this skirt which I found to be totally out of character and out of place.

Just as an FYI, modern and progressive doesn't have to mean exposing your body. Alot of modern and progressive muslim girls don't have to wear skirts or don't like to - to still be modern. It's about being educated and sophisticated and kind to others that is part of my POV of being progressive.

We really cannot generalize...and yahan par toh do alag countries ki baat ho rahi hai...but this kind of generalized opinion exist even within small towns and cities of India regarding the metros...for example my cousins back in rajasthan think that all that we mumbaikars do is clubbing and partying...our parents have no objections..its full freedom...abhi how they got this idea only they can say...but in such cases its really to each his own...its a fiction...we need to take it with a pinch of salt...yeh toh bas serial hai guys...isse bhi bahut bade bade nationally important issues ka misrepresentation hota hai...but we need to decide what we take home from this...i would as a viewer not assume that Girls in states wear short clothes..i would glean that clothing does not define who you are as a person...it is important..but not that much...

Indian Television always eggagerates things so im not even gonna get into religion... I'm not gonna say anything further because this topic is way to heated and @Closed always gets reported for being blunt, receiving Personal Mods notes... I'll just say, I'm Muslim and it didn't offend me because I didn't take it as a religious stereotype or what not in the first place...

True, I think they marketed QH as a muslim backdrop to catch people's attentions. But then don't make the characters muslim when:

-Tanveer and Imran are having a child out of wedlock.

-Former Ayaan used to flirt with wall the girls.

-and well Siddiqu himself has an extramarital affair (while still being married to Razia) and has an out of wedlock child.

-Razia freaking kills zoya's mom on the show.

-Razia trying to frame aayan and humeira for having an affair (getting them sedated and sick).

There are lots of inaccuracies here that if you keep calling it a muslim backdrop-it's not. the characters speak Urdu well-but don't try to make it soemthing it's not when it can't be that accurate to the sensititivies of the religion.

Sorry, saying it like it is. And this goes beyond the mini-skirt situation that some muslim girls from the states are upset about.

There are quite a few Muslims in NY who do. I lived in Manchester, UK and the majority population in the part of town I lived are Bangladeshi and Pakistani Muslims - and I have seen them wear short skirts (in fact shorter than what Zoe had on) even in winter.

I never said you shouldn't find it offensive but you still can't say you believe every Muslim finds short skirts as offensive.

Delena, how do you feel about the things beyond the mini-skirts, like the out of wedlock children that is clearly a gunna kabeer?
You can see the point somewhat right? Of some of saying--whoa hold your horses there? Then the writers shouldn't be calling all the characters muslims.

You seem to be super liberal and that's cool. I'm surrounded by such folks. We may never see eye to eye but the POVs from both sides are always needed the Super Liberals and the Moderate Liberals talking about such issues.

Take care.

Not all muslim women in New York are tech savvy, who can fix just about anything, can fight with goons, have the biggest heart and are unbelievably smart..

Not all Muslim traditional women are kameenis like Razia and Tannu..

Not all muslim men are narrow minded as Asad or Useless like Rashid..

Not all muslim moms are super cool like Dilshaad..

None of these characters represent any group, they are fictional ..treat them like one..

Heya sana...just wanted to share something...out of wedlock children and being a murderer and liar are not a part of any of our religions...but our tv serials portray good vs evil...so honestly agar hum sochein toh the religion a person belongs to is not the point here...bad ppl are bad ppl and they are evil irrespective of their religions...Qubool hai being a Muslim backdrop by any means does not imply that evry1 of them needs to be an epitome of good...being evil is unforgivable in every religion including Islam...but we still have villians and vamps...don't we?

Iska matlab yeh thodi hai ki we are misrepresenting a religion...just take it easy

I find it disgusting that you think children born out of wedlock is a sin. No child is to blame for their parentage. Also who the heck gave you the right to judge people who do not believe that sex before marriage is a sin. People can live the way they like as long as they are not criminals. You nor I get to judge anybody on how they live.

@blue - The issue of the skirt isn't about liberals vs conservative it is about the freedom of choice. As a woman and human being Zoya has the choice to wear and do as she pleases.
