Gul Khan, what did you do?

I fit into the age range of Zoya in real life. I'm a female new yorker who shares the cultural background as in Qubool hai. Religion-wise, I'm not perfect but am moderate. I don't drink, go to bars, wear mini skirts. Hey, I do wear jeans and sneakers and business suits -- not wearing traditional shilwar-cameese clothes all the time.

But today's episode reinforced the stereotype that all guys and gals that are desi and muslim who grew up in America are super modern and are insensitive to culture and religion

Come on Gul, we watched your episodes to relate. You were uniting western and eastern desi folks across borders. But now, with this added on, I think twice about the sensitivity of the writers.

Zoya is supposed to be challenging hypocrisy - which is great. But by adding the whole " i used to wear it in US all the time" reinforces another hypocrisy / stereotype that all [US/NYC] muslim or desi people are so modern that they are insensitive to their cultural/religious roots.

How about getting your writers to do some fixing up? It's left a bitter taste in my mouth.

i saw the episode twice and didn't hear anything where Zoya spoke about other women in NYC. she spoke for herself thats it.

also, being insensitive to cultural roots didnt even come in the picture anywhere!!

just a point i wanted to point out.. you mentioned that we relate to qabool hai.. yesterday Zoya taught us that we shouldnt be judgeb because of our clothes. there just our clothes not our character. also our culture is not weak that it should be put down on our clothes,...
you should keep that in mind... Clothes are clothes...

You nor I get to judge anybody on how they live.

@blue - The issue of the skirt isn't about liberals vs conservative it is about the freedom of choice. As a woman and human being Zoya has the choice to wear and do as she pleases.

Delena sweetie, I wasn't judging the kid out of wedlock-you assumed that. Just the discrepancies that are bigger than just the skirt issue.
As for inconsistencies in the dramas, sure to other people's points, they are all inaccurate.

Not sure why people are being so harsh here. It's a conversation we're all having. Woo. Take a chill pill all. Seriously.

i am fascinated by the views being exchanged here.i am not a muslim. however i have a few very good friends who are muslims and they seem to be totally opposite of what is being defined as being what a good muslim girl is.anyway, that is beside the point. what i actually wanted to say isthat why does every single thing in the show have to be related with, religion.there are so many shows which are based on hindu families( here i am talking abt indian shows) but nobody relates everything to religion. oh they are hindus, so why are they showing this or not showing that?or that hindus or hinduism is being misrepresnted.why is everybody being so sensitive?again, i do realise that religion is a sensitive topic so i dont want to trivialise anything.no religion is represented accurately on any tv show, so lets just leave it at that.

Not all Muslim traditional women are kameenis like Razia and Tannu..

Not all muslim men are narrow minded as Asad or Useless like Rashid..

Not all muslim moms are super cool like Dilshaad..

None of these characters represent any group, they are fictional ..treat them like one..

Exactly! Hats off to your reply! 👏 Fiction is fiction, and people need to learn the difference between Real Life and Reel Life! 😆
