Chapter Twenty-One - Coming Soon!
Prologue
I was only eight when our parents had an argument. She stood beside me as we watched our parents arguing over some matter...at the time, I wasn't old enough to understand what was wrong. I grabbed her hand as I noticed she was startled. Her face shot in my direction.
She was my best friend and so all I remember wanting to do was to make her feel better. Then her mother said the words I was dreading. The words I haven't forgotten to this day.
"We're leaving! We never want to see your family ever again. Madhu, COME!"
I quickly turned to look at her as she stared at me with watery eyes.
"Promise you won't forget me RK?"
"I'll never forget you Midhi."
Midhi. I could never pronounce her name when I was younger. We had met at the mere age of three and her nickname had stuck with me.
"Will we see each other again?"
"Yes! When I'm older and famous, I'll cast you to play opposite me."
"Promise?"
"Promise!"
"I'm going to miss you RK."
"I'll miss you too Midhi..."
We did our special handshake in which we tapped each other's chins, then noses, and then pulled in for a hug. The hug didn't last long though...our parents dragged us away from each other as we held out our hands.
"Noo!"
I heard her wailing as she was being dragged away by her mother. I looked up to see my mother dragging me away from my best friend. My only friend. The friend I'd never forget.
