Chapter Three - Mr. Snuggles

"You're going to love my parents! But don't do what Trishna did to me."

"What'd she do to you?"

"She stole my parents! Okay, I guess she didn't…but I mean, they think she's the 'perfect' daughter. Yeah they still spoil me and love me, but I don't like when they do that to her."

"Jealous much?"

She slammed on the breaks as she came to a stop in front of a red light. Her gaze turned to me.

"Shut up. How would you feel if your par…"

She stopped mid-sentence as she remembered that I was an orphan.

"Sorry, forgot."

I didn't say a word and looked away to stare out the window.

"I won't steal your parents. I doubt they'll even let me stay."

"Pfft, they're MY parents and I think I know them better than you."

"We'll see."

"Yes we will!"

She hit the gas as the light turned green and began to speed.

"Your driving is crazy."

"I know."

A few awkward silent minutes passed which caused me to begin thinking how far she lived from her father's own studio. As I waited for her to reach her home, she began speaking again.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"How'd your parents…"

"Killed."

"What?!"

She swerved her car as my answer surprised her.

"Watch your driving!"

"Sorry, but what?! Did they catch who did it? Why?!"

"Don't know why. It was a couple of hit men; they caught them. Currently rotting in jail with life imprisonment but haven't said a word about it."

"Well, I'm glad they got what they deserved. How could someone be so cruel? How old were you?"

"10."

"So young…did you see…"

"I saw everything. They didn't see me. If they had, I can guarantee I wouldn't be here today. I was actually the one to describe what they looked like."

"How'd you handle that at such a young age…?"

I remembered back to living on the side of the streets in a box and begging people who went by for money. I shuddered.

"Sorry, you don't have to talk about it."

"No problem. Can I ask you something now?"

"It depends…"

"What was on your mind? I mean…why'd you come to your 'thinking spot' tonight?"

"Hey, I'm the rich one here, I ask the questions."

"Ouch."

"Oh shut up. We're here!"

I looked outside the front window at a pair of huge gates with two guards on either side. She waved at them and they opened the gates. When the gates opened, a path with flowers and trees on either side became visible. She drove up the path and that's when her home came into clear view. It was huge…well actually huge is an understatement. It was like a castle. I never would've thought that owning a studio and having an actress daughter would allow for such a big home.

"You...live here?"

"No, I work here."

I sensed the sarcasm in her voice and decided to ignore it.

"A family of four, what do you need all those extra rooms for?"

"I don't know. My daddy bought it. It's good for parties and stuff."

"I see."

"And good for the side orphanage business my parents secretly run."

I couldn't help but chuckle at the slight humour hidden behind her irritated voice.

"Are you sure you're not in on it? Because you did pick me up off the street."

"Should I send you back there?"

"I don't mind. You're the one who forced me into coming, I didn't ask you."

She went silent and parked the car in front of her home…correction, mansion. She stepped out as I did and then ran towards the door. I followed. She opened the door and stepped in as I followed her footsteps. When I looked inside, I was in awe of how big her home was. It almost didn't seem fair…so many people lived on the streets and here she was in a home with at least ten extra rooms.

I looked ahead to see a huge room, which included the foyer, living room, and dining area all in one. It was so open yet so empty. My eyes slowly looked up towards the huge chandelier that shined bright against the white, high ceiling. The two-way staircase was something I had always dreamt of but never seen in person. It was a beautiful home to say the least.

"Who's this?"

My eyes lowered and looked straight towards a girl who seemed a bit older than us. She had long black hair, which had extra volume in it, and she wore a tight tank top with even tighter jeans.

"Eh, some guy I found on the street."

I looked at Madhu with a slightly irritated look, which caused her to correct herself.

"Oh fine, he's a homeless stuntman. Just got hired for my film today."

"You're kidding…he's a stuntman?"

The girl looked me up and down which made me feel slightly uncomfortable.

"Trish, you might as well stay away, he doesn't have the kind of money you're looking for."

"I figured that much when you said 'homeless' lil' sis. I'm just surprised that such a good looking man is just a mere stuntman."

I couldn't help but smile at the compliment.

"Kay, hit on him later, where are mom and dad?"

"Before you ran off with the car, they told you they were leaving for a few days on a business trip."

"Huh? I guess I didn't hear them. What do you mean by 'business trip'?"

"I don't know, I'm guessing they're opening up a new studio or something."

I stood silently on the side as Madhu and Trishna engaged in a conversation and completely forgot about me. I decided to listen in since I had nothing better to do.

"Where Trish?"

"They said they're off to Dubai for a week."

"Cool. What do I do with him then?"

I was slightly shocked at how indifferent Madhu seemed to her parents leaving for a week that I didn't even realize the conversation had shifted back to me.

"We've got rooms, pick one and give it to him?"

"Good idea, hey you."

It bothered me again that she refused to call my name.

"Like I said before, I have a name."

"And like I said before, I don't like it."

My eyes looked towards Trishna who had a confused look on her face.

"What's your name?"

"RK."

"Makes sense."

"Huh? What makes sense?"

"Oh, nothing. Mona, give him a room."

"He knows my real name."

"Oh! That close eh?"

"Shut up Trish."

"Hah, well Madhu, give him a room. Preferably near yours so that when mom and dad come back, they'll run into him at the same time as you and you'll be able to explain yourself."

Madhu nodded her head as Trishna smiled at me and walked off.

"Follow me."

She ordered me in the same fashion as when she had ordered for water on the sets.

"Yes ma'am."

"Quit calling me that!"

"I think I might just start calling you that because it bothers you."

"You…don't get too comfortable with me. Just because I opened up to you a bit and I brought you home doesn't mean we're friends. Understand?"

"Sure."

I admit, I didn't like her one bit but an odd feeling of disappointment did form within me after she spoke. I was also a bit anxious about being in such a huge home without her parents knowing about me.

We walked up the huge staircase and I followed her towards a room to the left of a huge double-door room. I figured it was her parents. She walked into the room and I followed. I entered a dark purple room with black drapes running down the back wall. There were no pictures in her room, which surprised me. She seemed so self-absorbed that I was honestly shocked that not even one image of her was in her room. The only image I noticed on her wall was a poster, which read Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. As my eyes landed on her poster, I noticed her turn around to face me in my peripheral vision.

"What are you doing?"

I looked towards her and answered her while a confused expression crossed my face.

"You told me to follow you, did you not?"

"Into my room?"

"Well where do I go?"

"Into the room beside me. Now if you're intelligent enough, you'll know to go into the room to the right and not the huge double-door room to the left."

"I'm not stupid."

"Well, you did follow me into my room."

"That's because I know how to follow orders."

I turned and walked out of her room as she ignored my comment.

I turned to the right and walked into a room similar in size to hers. It was white with white drapes lining the back wall. I looked at the huge queen size bed and felt a warm feeling inside of me. I hadn't seen such a comfortable bed in…well…ever.

I placed my luggage on the ground and decided to get comfortable, beginning with the removal of my stupid collared shirt. I unbuttoned my shirt and slowly slipped it off my shoulders. I closed my eyes and sighed as I let the warm air touch my skin. It had been a while since I had been surrounded by warm air; I never had enough money to pay the bills at my old apartment.

"Hey! Do y…"

I heard her voice trail off behind me and instantly turned to face the door. She stood there gawking at me and totally checking me out. Her eyes landed on my chest and her eyes went wide. I cleared my throat, which managed to grab her attention. When her eyes met mine, she instantly looked away.

"Y…you should close your door next time."

"Did you need something?"

"Food…I mean I was wondering if you want food. I mean…are you hungry?"

She didn't once glance in my direction again which managed to surprise me. It wasn't like I was naked or anything…I was just shirtless.

"I'm fine thanks."

"K…kay."

She ran away the instant she knew she could and I heard her door slam closed. Just as I was about to turn around, I saw Trishna walk into my room while eating an apple.

"Don't mind her, she likes to stay away from guys."

"And you?"

"Eh, nothing I haven't seen before."

"Really? Madhu was telling me how your twos' parents think you're the 'perfect daughter'."

"Realistically, no child is 'perfect' and every child has flaws. Some are just better at hiding their flaws than others."

She shrugged her shoulders and looked around my room.

"This is your room now, you can do whatever you want to it."

"I'm a simple kind of guy."

"You mean boring kind of guy."

"What?"

"You heard me. And I know, you don't have the cash, but I can help you fix it up."

"Oh?"

"I love designing, I took a separate course on it for fun during college."

"You went to college?"

"Yeah but it wasn't my thing. My parents were quite proud of me when I booked a modeling shoot. I guess talent just runs in this family."

"Nice, congrats!"

"Oh that shoot was a year ago, I haven't done anything since."

"Then why are your parents so pr…"

"Proud? Madhu exaggerated when she talked to you about me, didn't she? All I do is LISTEN to them whereas Madhu's always in her own world."

"I. AM. NOT!"

Trishna and I turned our attention to the doorway and noticed Madhu standing there with her arms crossed tightly around a simple brown teddy bear. She didn't look at me, probably because I was still shirtless, so she only kept her eyes on Trishna.

"Okay, maybe sometimes I am but still, shut up Trish! You don't need to tell him everything!"

"Why not? He's cool and doesn't seem like the kind to run to the paparazzi."

Madhu leaned towards Trishna and whispered loud enough for me to still hear her.

"Shh, he's money hungry."

"Ahem, this money hungry guy has ears."

"Well I'm not lying am I?"

"Actually you are. I have lived without money for 16 years…if I was money hungry, I would've robbed you and left already."

Trishna and Madhu's eyes widened.

"What I'm trying to say is that I haven't robbed you and don't plan on it. And I sure as hell don't want to contact the paparazzi. They get on my nerves and they aren't even after me."

I noticed their expressions relax slightly and then Trishna laughed.

"He has no idea what he's getting himself into."

I looked at the both of them confused as they laughed.

"What do you mean I don't know what I'm getting myself into?"

"Now that you live here, paparazzi will be after you too. At least when they find out that you live here, they'll definitely chase you down."

"Yup, Trish is right. And on top of that, they'll spread rumours about the two of us dating. God…not looking forward to that news being spread."

They stared at each other and then the both of them turned to look at me as I just gave them a tired look.

"I'm tired…I haven't had a good sleep in years and this bed is just calling out my name and…"

"Fine, fine, we're leaving."

They both turned around and were leaving when I decided to add in a last comment for the night.

"Hey Madhu?"

She turned to look in my direction.

"I see you've become used to seeing me shirtless?"

I smirked at her as her mouth opened in slight objection and then before I knew it, she threw her teddy bear at me.

"Keep him! He'll teach you to shut your mouth."

"A teddy bear?"

"His name is Mr. Snuggles for your kind information. Now sleep!"

She shut the lights off on me and closed the door behind herself, leaving me standing alone staring at her teddy bear in my hands.
