Chapter Seven - The Almost Kiss

I was headed to bed when Madhu walked into my room. She wore a blue nightdress this time. It ran halfway up her thighs and was silky. The two thin lace straps went over her shoulders and her collarbone was in clear view. She began walking towards me and it felt as though I was seeing an angel...that was of course until she spoke.

"Quit checking me out!"

"Huh? What? Hey! You can't just walk into a guy's room wearing that and expect him not to check you out."

"Ugh, all guys are the same. Mind putting on a shirt?"

"Yes I do mind. Why? Long conversation time?"

"As a matter of fact, yes!"

"Well, I don't plan on putting on my shirt, so if you want to talk in the morning..."

"No."

I smirked and took a seat on the edge of my bed. I wore nothing but a pair of sweatpants. I patted down beside me and she hesitated for a moment but then walked towards me. She took a seat next to me and our bare arms brushed against each other. I felt an odd yet warm feeling run through me but we both moved slightly away from each other. I noticed she was a bit effected by the touch too because she didn't look in my direction but her cheeks flushed slightly pink. On top of that, she almost forgot what she was about to say.

"Uhm...I don't remember why I came here."

She crossed her legs and I could sense how uncomfortable she seemed as she place her hands on the bed and looked away from me. So I turned and grabbed my shirt off the bed. I began putting it on.

"What are you doing?"

I hadn't even got the shirt over my head yet, so I pulled it off.

"I thought you wanted me to put on my shirt?"

"No, it's fine."

"Maybe my sexy body is making you forget why you came here?"

She laughed and pushed me gently. As she laughed, she looked in my direction. Her smile was so beautiful that it literally took my breath away. I had to remind myself to breathe. I felt myself being drawn in towards her and her smile slowly disappeared. A different look crossed her face...a look that even I couldn't comprehend. Something began to draw her in towards me and just as we were about to close our eyes, I realized what was happening. I blinked, moved my face away from hers and that managed to bring her out of her trance. She put her hand to her mouth and looked at me with wide eyes.

"Oh my god...what are we doing?"

I didn't know how to answer her, so I didn't. My heart was still racing and I could hear her heavy breathing which meant hers was too. I kept my eyes on her as she looked around like a lost puppy. I didn't know I had such an effect on her...after all, she did just call me homeless guy. So seeing her like that was quite surprising.

"What am I doing?"

She spoke to herself as she ran her hand through her hair and instantly stood up.

"Madhu, it's fine."

"No...no, it's not fine."

I stood and stared at her confused. We hadn't kissed, so I didn't understand why she was going so frantic over such a little thing.

"Nothing happened."

"It almost did...this is your fault!"

"My fault?! How?"

"You remind me of him..."

"Him...?"

"I can't do this to him...I can't."

She turned and ran out of my room as I watched with a shocked expression. I felt a heaviness forming on my heart after she spoke of some other guy. I didn't understand what she meant...but I figured that she already had someone in her life. I laid back down in bed and felt something fluffy underneath me. I pulled out Mr. Snuggles out from beneath me and stared at him.

"What just happened Mr. Snuggles?"

The teddy bear stared back at me unresponsively. I sighed, put the teddy bear down beside me, and decided to get comfortable in bed. I wondered why she had come into my room in the first place but I told myself that it didn't matter anymore. I was shocked that I was about to kiss a girl I'd only known for two days. I was angry at myself for almost kissing her as well when the only girl I had ever loved was my Midhi. But there was something about her...something that screamed out familiarity to me every time she was in front of me. And she mentioned that I remind her of him? Of who...? I closed my eyes and saw her face closing in on mine and then us pulling away. My eyes shot open and I came to the conclusion that there was no way I'd be getting any sleep that night.
