CHAPTER 1
It was a bright and happy morning, Rama came to Anokhi's room and opened the curtains, letting the Sunshine enter and spread the light.
"Wake up Anu beta, today is such a big day for you, you have been eagerly waiting for it for the last three months. Come on, get up and hurry or else we'll get late." Rama said while lovingly caressing her head.
Without opening her eyes Anokhi stretched her arms as she breathed in the fresh morning happily and lazily mumbled "Yes Momā¦.anyway, even if we do get late, it would make no difference. I will only get the subjects that I want."
Then with a smile she proudly continued "For someone who got such incredible marks in 10th, no one will dare stop her from choosing the subjects she wants. Be it Science or Commerce or Arts. No one will say no."
She had already decided months ago about the subjects she wanted to take, even before her results came and was very confident about her choice of taking COMMERCE with MATHS along with a secure space in that class that she didn't give it a second thought!!
BUT little did she know what was awaiting her in school!! Something was gonna happen today that she never imagined, the decision that she will end up taking today will change her life's direction towards a future which she never ever, not even in her dreams imagined!! The day was about to change the direction of her life towards a future she never even dreamt of!!
She woke up and got ready to go to school with her mother!! She took shower and did her daily prayers and prayed to God to please always stay with her and always show the right path in life!!
She was so excited to be back in school after so many months, meeting all her friends and teachers after sooo long with no burden of exams and all!! She just couldn't be happier!!
Anokhi has always been her teachers favorite, but the reason was not just her high scores...there were others with high scores in her class too, but she was favorite of the teachers because of her other qualities, like helping other kids in class with their problems whenever anyone asked, even though she knew some of them used to talk bad about her behind her back, they were jealous of her and said things like
"Oh she gets higher marks because she is always doing chamchagiri (buttering) of teachers and doing things for them."
"She always goes and sits in front so the teachers can notice her and give responsibilities to her and ignore us."
All this was not unknown to her but it never bothered her as her funda in life was "U ALWAYS GET ONLY WHAT GOD THINKS YOU DESERVE, NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS" and "EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON."
She believed it does not matter what others think of you, but what matters most is what you think about yourself!! She would never say NO to anyone and would always go out of her way to help others out in any way she could!!
Finally the mother-daughter duo reached the school and met other parents, teachers and exchanged pleasantries! Anokhi excused herself from the group of ladies including some parents and teachers chatting with her mother to go and see her friends!!
"Hello everyone!!" She exclaimed excitedly. "How are you all??"
Everyone said HI to her and they all started asking each other which subjects they were going to take this year!! Some wanted to take Science, some Commerce and some Arts!!
They all got a bit sad knowing each other's choices as that would mean being in different classes and they wouldn't be able to see each other as much!! Anokhi trying to make everyone happy came up
with the solution of meeting everyday at lunch break to catch up!!
Right then one of her classmates, Amit, came running and asked everyone that, "Did you guys know this year the school is offering more subject choices? For example, with Science you can choose either Maths or Computer Science and with Commerce you can choose between Maths, Computer Science or one language and same with Arts!!"
Everybody got very excited to hear the new options and started discussing! Anokhi however, was very sure that she still wanted Commerce with maths as she had a real interest for numbers and hence loved maths a lot!! So thinking she does not wanna change her mind and stay with her original choice of Commerce with Maths, she bid her friends goodbye and told them that she will go and see her previous teachers and thank them for their contribution to her success in board exams!!
She went and saw a few of her teachers and thanked them and told them that she will miss taking their classes as from now onwards they will be getting new teachers for the remaining two years in school before they go off to college!!
It was a bittersweet moment for her!
She was excited and nervous both, excited for the beginning of a new chapter of life and nervous as she imagined how her new teachers would be? Would they be as nice as her previous teachers?? Or would they like her as much as her previous teachers?
With these queries in mind, she looked for her mother and together they moved towards the registration area.
