The little that I have been able to understand reading this part and the reason why Rajat is behaving so weirdly with Anu is that he don't want to give Anu false hopes...! He does love Anu very much...may be he is going on a very dangerous mission where he could even get killed...and he don't want Anu to breakdown and have a heartbreak...! He prefers to ignore, distance himself from her and hurt her now...rather than give her hopes and and then hurt her even more when he will be no more...i.e, if he never return and die in the war zone...!

I know our hero will not die...and will do his best to pacify Anu, when he will return home safely...! 😉
