@annika20 I feel for your relative , I hope she gets better. Didn't all his patients or the relatives of the patients he treated, not expose this guy? They should have spread a word of caution against this guy and prevented others from going to him- it would have served him right!

@charminggenie My mom works at CGHS and I have seen how much she suffered because of being the only honest employee there.

And I agree, how about medical students forming a collective and protesting against such practices? It would make a difference for sure!

You know it's sad that we keep hearing about Junior doctors or medical college students going on strike every now and then but I haven't heard once about them doing that for an actual good cause. And even if there are a few people who want to do something good to bring about a change, they will not get the support from the others. Of course, if they are bullied into doing it for political reasons, the same brigade will not back out

@Manali You just confirmed my worst fears, imagine how those "doctors" must be treating their patients :O. You know what , we actually need protests, candle light vigils for these things. I wish someone from the medical field initiates a movement to take serious action against this, I am sure everyone would gladly lend their support to them.

@Bazinga, bravo to your mum beng one of the honest ones there, but seriously it is such a good facility but so under-developed, doctors there r so lazy and the staff would rather have the facility shut down.

I know that radiology seat costs around 1crore, snt it the most prestigious ones to get through, my best friend is preparing for her PG exams and she told me how she was approached on fone by some1 to get her thru a very prestigious institute if she is willing to pay the prize.
SHe interned in a govt hospital and was appaled how the doctors treat the patients and the unhygenic conditions

This needs asap crackdown by the govt, but unfortunately our ministers r way too busy commenting about homosexuality.

@charminggenie Why would the ministers want to focus on this? In other words, why would they want another source of their income to stop? If they wouldn't be hogging all the funds allocated to develop the infrastructure and facilities and if the education sector had not been heavily commercialized with the medical students(?) paying huge donations and going to work for private hospitals to "recover the amount", why would the condition be such? I assert that if we want to change something, we should only do something about it. I am not a Gandhian but I want to reiterate "be the change you want to see" - this has never been so true in the context of our country.

@Annika

I get very angry when I see something going wrong, what really gets me is when I see people misbehave with women. At times I lash out physically at the culprit. Since I' a single working woman and at that time was working in a different city staying alone this tendency could be a potential problem, so I decided to get into therapy for anger management.

My attempts to find a good doctor were laughed at, because I would call up hospitals and ask about doctors first as general enquiry then specific questions. Anyway finally shortlisted a doctor.

The first thing I told the doctor was that I would take no medication, esp. any sedatives. He convinced me that some amount of medication was necessary. After getting the prescription, took it to the chemist I trusted (I've shared about him earlier int he thread) and looked up the medication he had prescribed. I found not one but 3 different kinds of sedatives and the cocktail he had prescribed was sufficient to keep me knocked out for 10-12 hours at a stretch.

Immediately went back to him and blasted him in front of the patient he was seeing and told him that I would file a complaint against him. I didn't file the complaint and never did get that therapy, somehow.

They did not take legal action. But did spread word against that psychiatrist. 2-3 more such cases happened. After that a lot of negative feedback spread against that man across the city.

But it's sad that due to such people the stigma around mental health problems remains and people don't seek treatment in fear of their condition getting worse.

I am a student of psychology and I know a very well qualified psychologist in our city who literally fishes for ''patients''. Her husband is a psychiatrist. Together the couple keeps sending each other's ''patients'' to each other's respective clinics for so-called medications and therapies, ensure the patient sticks with them for years and sometimes they even get whole family to agree on getting family therapy ( one of therapies used by psychologists in certain cases) if the patient does not get cured sooner! That couple is literally running a meat shop of sorts, milking sensitive mental health issues for financial gains!🤢

Mental health scam is worse and bigger betrayal. Here a person may not die, but mentally he becomes debilitated for life. These victims may not count in statistics either because they have not physically died or lost body parts. 🤢

Mostly people lack awareness of mental health issues and don't realise if they are being taken for a ride. I hope people do some search online or look up books in libraries to check details on drugs and treatments being prescribed to them and take opinions of knowledgeable people in case of mental health issues too. Don't just stay silent out of stigma. Not every mental health problem is ''paagalpan''.

In fact, keeping oneself informed as a patient is something we owe to ourselves. System may or may not change. But we must arm ourselves with awareness instead of blindly trusting doctors and so-called professionals!

I think today's episode was brilliant...better than the dowry episode...it really exposed facts and figures which I never knew...I didn't know what are generic medicines...I didn't know doctor operate minus the consent of their patients...I didn't know only 1.4% of our GDP is being spent on health services...I didn't know there are doctors like Devi shetty and doctor gulati...I have deep respect for both of them...and the list has few more points...I was appalled, shocked by the cruelness of some doctors and overwhelmed by the sincerety with which some doctors are working...in all I loved the episode...it was fantastic...kudos to today's episode...
