kaadal..let me try to summarize..
in the novel the engagement is announced, they write to each other and start falling in love, then SC visits RN, meets her in person and both confess their love for each other...then SC goes back home at which point Guman creates a conflict between LN & SC regarding inheritance, money etc..in the conflict LN accuses him of trying to steal the family money and giving it to kumud ...in a fit of righteous rage SC decides to chuck it all...he leaves LN's house and then writes a letter to kumud that he's sorry but he can't marry her...since it was conservative society a break-off of engagement was huge...in panic VC is forced to get kumud married off to Pramad...and rest of the story..
so our dikra while still loving her deeply was still too impulsive and made a bad decision..then his own ego did not allow him to correct his mistake in time...by the time he realises the mistake, kumud is married and the die is cast...
SLB has already made major adaptations...in the show the rejection letter is brought in right at the beginning, followed by them falling in love...
however what smrth & I were discussing were the next steps if the show has to follow the story...there will be a seperation caused by guman, arising out of an impulsive call by saras...
and we are fast approaching that point...without which the story cannot move forward...
BTW: the more I learn the more I realize the story is entirely about kumd...then why did the author name it SC.?..haven't got the answer yet...maybe in the period it was written a novel with the name of its female protaganist would not have had a wider appeal...or maybe the author was trying to be cheeky and naming it after the bozo whose one impulsive decision caused all the trouble for all the characters and permitted him to write 5 volumes over 15 years! 😊
