Who are we to decide in the first place?

And what makes you think a woman of substance and a bikini babe are mutually exclusive things?

She looks good, it's not unusual for Gujarati women to wear backless cholis, but yes this is not what they usually wear. However, this is an SLB show... He creates larger than life characters, scenes, sets, locales and of course costumes!

who cares,if it is okay or not?
LOL Saras is getting enough chances to stare at her nude back as much as he wants :P What more do we want!
I am not against her backless blouse when she is around saras! But as a teacher she is not supposed to wear such kind of blouses!

Unfortunately, people do judge others based off of clothes. I don't per say have a problem with Kumud's clothes but I did wonder the first couple of days why she was dressed so differently and not conservatively when compared to others but after a while it didn't bother me because I care more about the concept of the show than what she's wearing and I also don't really care for how one dresses because to each person is their own choice. A lot of you guys have valid points. Yes, a person should not be judged off of what they wear because what we wear and who we are can be completely different, but I also agree that our sense of style represents us in more than one way that is why we are to wear certain types of clothing to certain places. At work professional clothes, at home comfortable clothes, going out with friends depending upon the occasion more casual or dressed up clothes. When it comes to the show her family and her are shown to be very conservative. I have never been to Gujarat and when I did go to India I did not go for a long enough time to see the way people dress so I cannot really comment on how people dress in India or Gujarat for that matter, but her clothes are conservative in the sense that she is donning a Gujarati looking by wearing Gujarati clothes, but her clothes are not conservative in the sense that you can see her back and stomach because her stole is transparent, but I can look past that. I think the reason she is dressed the way she is and so different from others is because though she is conservative, she is modern in more ways than one can count. She is educated, she fights for the rights of people and I think her dressing sense kind of denotes the modern yet conservative side of her. I don't think I can pick a side because I think each of you are right in your own ways.

Calling her bikini babe is taking it too far. Backless blouses are very much the norm in rural india so I am fine with that. Her dupattas are very transparent though but I think that does not take away from her dignity and make her a bikini babe.

I do agree that there was a deliberate attempt on the part of the SLB team to make her look sensual.

I am getting quite used to her dressing. In fact, I like it (as conservative as I am) because here is a woman who knows that she is sensual and she uses it to dress up - to feel good. But under no circumstance, does that make her proud about her looks.

She still carries herself with dignity, has values and fights for the truth. I think that is so refreshing; that is; if we can see beyond the stereotyping that women have been subjected to by our movies and serials.

As a Gujarati I am highly offended with the same topics almost every other day. Yes, when navratri comes I do where similar chaniya choli's as Kumud wears. I work at a nursing home in which there is an Indian floor and almost every patient watches this show and they love her dresses and mind you they are old aged.

Are you kidding me that girls in India don't wear such dresses? I went to India last year and my house is in a village during my cousins garba all of the girls in the village wore modern chaniya choli's...and yes many were backless...and see through oodhni's...including mine.

What Kumud is wearing is the latest fashion chaniya choli's...they are trendy. They are still in fashion. In fact see through oodhnis are in style right now; most of the young generation wears exactly what Kumud wears. Yes, in villages not everyday...because now girls do wear jeans and pants...but even long ago they made blouses that were backless. In fact, my mom's old chaniya choli looks new because the backless fashion and see through oodhni's are IN!!

Just because it is backless and the oodhni is transparent doesn't mean that it is at all vulgar. Her dresses are in fact very classy...and I would myself want to wear them...and so would my cousins...she carries the dress with such grace and elegance. The oodhni too is put on perfectly...that is how a guju wears her oodhni.

Go watch some navratri videos on YouTube you will see this type of dressing. Gosh, tired of reading the same topic, this time I couldn't help but respond.

Yeah. This was something that I was pretty confused about. Like Kusum and Kumari's blouses look nothing like that. Not even considering an exposed back, Kusum's blouses are super long as well.
My mom even pointed it out in the earlier episodes, she actually said that Kumud won't show Saras her face, but she has no problem baring her entire back to him.
