So I am getting a mixed bag of reactions from fans; some questioning her dress, others saying it is perfectly ok.

Who wears what in which serial is not important. It is SC I am talking about. And I am not discussing the actor!

My basic question was, does the character's sense of dress suit the indomitable character of Kumud?

From my normal suburban American (fairly conservative) point of view, my answer is no. I feel the character deserves a more dignified, refined style.

I think it looks awkward bcoz we have to watch it 5 days in every week n its a Indian tv show...and in other shows people wear such clothes on special occasions not everyday!

If it was a 3 hours movie like HDDCS then people had no problem with her clothes!
SLB should have thought of this!

Kumud's stands out from the crowd, cos her dressing sense is so different. If Kumud wears clothes like Kumari and Kusam..it would change kumud's character..cos she is different from other 'girls' in the village. Guys don't forget.. Kumud is not a typical girl..she is DIFFERENT. SLB is trying to make her look DIFFERENT.

I am perfectly fine with her dressing. 😊

She's a lead and Slb is a 'movie' director.
If we hav seen his films like Saawariya or HDDCS, I think both the leads hav worn revealing clothes.
But yes, one thing they could do is make the back a bit less open from the sides as we can see right through jenny's bones which is kinda. awkward!
Plus this is a serial so we hav to watch her like every day. Her shawl is a netted one and that too covers only half of her blouse and of course the back with just a couple of strings.
I don't think that whatever one wears should be an issue.
But out a 100, 5 may not think the way we do, will they?

But you still watch the movie right? Why is it ok to watch in the 3hour movie but not in a daily soap? I don't understand the double standards here sorry. It's even more unfortunate that girls of todays time have an issue with it.

Kumud is covering her chest, all she is showing is her back 😕 Her family don't have a problem but we do?😕

Bikini babe is not the term I'd use, even if I'd agreed with you in your opinion about Kumud's style, which I don't by the way.

I don't get the difference between short shorts/dresses showing bare legs and backless blouses showing bare backs. Both are revealing. A lead in an urban setting wearing skirts would be acceptable but not in rural areas. From what I've seen in films/serials length is more of concern in the rural parts. The only point I can slightly agree with is her wearing it daily. But again every bit of shows are not meant to be placed in a real setting. Makers perceive and stylise things accordingly And as Reema said, since she is the female lead she needs to look distinct.

About the juxtaposition between her strong character and her dressing, I could not understand your POV. Judging character from a person's dressing sense is a regressive(for the lack of a better word) mentality. Supposedly decent style and strong character doesn't necessarily go hand in hand.

Changing her dress would definitely do one thing good- it would stop much of the moral policing that goes in the forum.

Makers r surely nt dumb in ths case they have done lot of research abt everythng... Plz if u go to rural india n cross d border of one village thr is difference in everybodys living being trust me at my native place which is a small village ppl do wear backless blouses like kumud nt string one bt surely they reveals thr back... I dnt understand ths kinda argument tht wht should a gal wear n wht nt... Seriousaly my mother din even point out tht.. Valgarity always in ppl's eyes nt in womens clothes. I dnt feel awkward even i watch d shw wid my mom n sis n even friends din tel me abt hm revealing kumuds clothes r...

Thank you for telling me that people dress like this in villages.

It make more sense now. And it must be perfectly fine in the setting for the show.

Everyday u can watch girls in bikini, kissing n bed scene n those vulgar item songs on ur tv..but u guys have problem with kumuds dress just bcoz its a tv show..get a life
