Absolutely a mentors words afffects the voting patterns. But a mentors silence also affects the voting patterns. Again let me give the Jatin-Lalit example. Himesh and Aadesh at least managed to get their contestants to the finals, JL had to leave much before.
As stated before, JL were not silent. They openly praised Sharib, Ujjaini and other contestants in their gharana as well.
Remember when ID walked out and Debojeet went to meet him? Okay whether that was real or fake is a different question, but ID said I've always respected the other gharana contestants, never put them down, but I won't let the others put down my contestant either. So you needn't put down other contestants to support your own. And supporting your own contestant always works with the public.
But, was Koyal worth a walkout? Was she Bappida's strongest contender? Would his support have helped her or harmed her?

When has Bappida never supported his contestants? He has supported the ones who he personally felt deserved the support.

Himesh had his own vested interests in supporting his composition. there were other politics going on between him and Asha.

Also, why blame only Bappida. Even Himesh has not supported many of his contestants. In fact, he put down Yogendra and Shreshta before they even sang their songs! That is worse than not saying anything.

one last thing I'd like to add here...if, in the face of such a situation, Bappida DIDN'T know which song Koyal sang, or she sang the song despite him telling her not to, would Bappida coming out in her support looked good to the audience? We all agree on a common point that Koyal wasn't good in this particular episode...if Bappida had supported knowing she hadn't sung well, the viewers would have been turned off....and being an experienced music director himself, and a smart person, Bappida knew such a move would in no way help Koyal, but instead, put other contestants of his gharan in danger during voting rounds..

Why are you assuming she sang the song without his knowledge or permission? Where did this come out?

Correct, Himesh did not support Yogi's song choice and pointed it out very clearly. If Bappida had not supported Koyel's song choice he should also have pointed it out. If he didn't do so, then it seems that he agreed with the song choice. Therefore, when the girl was facing flak from Ashaji for the song choice, shouldn't he have taken some of the responsibility on himself?
That is Himesh's style but putting your contestant down has been widely criticised. The point is Koyal did sing badly. Would taking responsibility help improving Koyal's performance?

Bappida metes out same treatment to all the participants irrespective of their gharana. This gives him an edge as an non-judgemental mentor. Most viewers see and appreciate.
About the fight with Khayyam-- That is when Khayyam said 'why did you make me a judge'. .
This is what Asha Tai had also said I am the judge no arguements. To avoid the mentor prejudice there are MahaGurus whom the Music directors rever and regard highly hence their views play a significant role for the viewers. In the public eye Asha's decision regd Sarika still uphelds that over the MD's. Isnt mainting sanctity better over needless contentions of ego?

Agreed public voting is a very strange, fluctuating thing. Joyeeta may or may not have got people's sympathy, but she didn't come back finally. Who knows what will happen to Koyel. But Bappida sure didn't improve matters any by his studied silence.

Viewers judge a contestant based on how much they like the song sung by the contestant and not the gharana or just what the mentors are saying. Viewers are aware of politics amongst the judges and they do see thru it if any such is displayed.

The voting pattern is influenced by personal likes/dislikes apart from regionalism/casteism etc.thus it negates the mentor bias.

Presuming your point holds still had Koyal sang the song well then there wld have been No issue. Everything wld have been negated. We as viewers too feel she sung it bad in that song. Even if Bappida took responsibility ( for whatever reasons) still the judgement wld have been the same.

Yes, but my respect for him as a viewer would have gone up even more.

Another viewer can have a different perspective and take it negatively.
