The rules and consistency of the judges are highly questionable. Consider following:

-I agree with some of the posts ealier that Jagjit & Alka have flawed.
-Himesh is defending on a particular style for Dilshaad wheras Jatin&Lalit go as far as correcting the lyrics of any old song.
-Alka says that one should practice a lot for a song because we have heard a particular song several times and Jagjit says that singer's orginality is of utmost impirtance.
-At some point there were talks about presentation, performance, sound quality, variation, range, adaptability to different styles of singing and what not were mentioned by some of these music directors and judges.

What happened to those criteria?

I have a feeling that singing is an art and it is an internal journey of a soul, can't be put in a boundary and then judge that one is good and the other is bad. One can't say that which singer is the best, it all depends on one's taste and personal liking. But anyhow let us see hos it proceeds.

If compared on pure merits I feel Rajeev should not have get another chance and also Twinkle. But Banjyotsana was really substandard and she ought to be out and that is how Twinkle was in. She sounds to arrogant and perhaps she is there to challenge the audience that accept me or I will make myself accepted kind of! An artist no matter how successful has to be very down to earth and accept each opportunity to perform as a blessing but instead she has aim to be a "performer", I do not know what does that mean. May be she want to come out with a C grade pop album and accomapany star laden international tour and sing and dance in that troop. It was very disgusting to see her behaviour at stage.

Dilshaad is getting unfair advantages because of his being handicapped. Though he sings well but is horribly "typed", just like Nanu and Rajeev. Even Bhumik was very typed, though all of them sing very well in their own style very well(and that is why they are there!).

Overall it is a good competition and let us see how it shapes up in future.

Hello. I am new to this thread, but I am regular at India Forum's Kareena Kareena section.

I saw the episode that aired on Tuesday in the U.S.

Bhumik was really good, and I felt it was a very very stiff competition on the yellow carded episode. Rajeev and Dilshad (he had a green card though) has a very very unique voice which I like a lot. It was different from the Sonu-Sanu-Rafi clones. Most of the singers on Sa Re Ga Ma in general are Sonu-Sanu-Rafi sound alikes! Very few have been able to develop unique voices like them, so I give them kudos for that!

As far as the girls are concerned, I thought Twinkle was being too egotistical. In fact, it was just bad.

It is a rare opportunity to be able to perform in public, what to speak of performing in front of top music directors and two legends (namely Jagjit Singh and Alka Yagnik)! I think her egoism came from Aadesh chosing her to record a song for him.

If they offer compliments, humbly accept it as prashad. If they offer criticisms, acknowledge it and try to learn from it. Make an attempt to learn from it. I liked how Jatin-Lalit said that when they first were new to the music scene, they use to be very nervous. Confidence and self-esteem is good. But don't let false ego get to your head.

Except for one girl who hasn't sung yet and Sanchari (I think that was her name, that little girl who was unfairly eliminated in the prelims!!! 😡 ), I have not heard a girl who could sing in sur and tala on stage. The LEAST sur-perfect singer I heard in the competition was Banjyotsna. Her prelim was horribly off-key, (I can't believe she beat Sanchari in that episode!), and her two chances (Ishq kabhi kariyo na and one beautiful Lataji song tum mujhe yun bhula na paoge) was even worse!

TV show paves way for singers

By IndiaFM

Indian Idol gave Abhijeet Sawant and Amit Sana. Super Singer gave a less-known Ravindra Upadhyay. And now it's Zee TV singing talent hunt show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa that gifts Bollywood two vocal talents. Rajeev Kumar and Himani Kapoor now see themselves lending their voices to Kalpana Lajmi's next film Chingari. It was music director Aadesh Shrivastava who introduced them. Shrivastava is one of the judges of the musical show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa aired on ZEE TV in which the two are participants. While Rajeev has rendered an Alaap, Himani has done a Thumri.

The show has a bandwagon of judges who apart from Shrivastava include Jatin-Lalit, Ismail Darbar and Himesh Reshmmaiya. Also it was recently heard that Shrivastava and Ismail Darbar had a verbal spat on the sets of the show but nothing was captured on camera.

Composers hurl abuses

Aadesh Shrivastava, Ismail Durbar showdown on sets of Zee show

Subhash K Jha

The temperature on Zee TV's talent-scouting contest Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge has been rising by the week, what with the judges – Himesh Reshmmiya, Jatin, Lalit, Aadesh Shrivastava and Ismail Durbar forming their own caucus of favourite students, or 'gharanas', as they are politely called.

But politeness was thrown to the wind during the shoot of the popular show when two of the judges lost their cool and hurled abuses loud and strong, as watchers, including producer Gajendra Singh, gazed in horror and embarrassment.

Confirming the altercation, composer Aadesh Shrivastava says, "The confrontation with Ismail Durbar had been building up ever since we started judging Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge. His attitude is high-handed and arrogant and completely unacceptable to the other judges. He has no respect for anyone, not even those boys and girls who come from far-flung places like Assam and Manipur with dreams of becoming singers. Ismail addresses them so rudely on camera that many contestants are reduced to tears. I told him to be more considerate. But he is beyond reason."

The flash-point was reached two weeks ago during the last stint of the show's last recording when Durbar made snide comments on Shrivastava's knowledge of classical music. "He implied that he was the master of the ragas, while Himesh, Jatin, Lalit and I, were just novices who knew nothing about classical music. He forgets I come from a musical family. I've used classically trained voices like Richa Sharma and Hema Sardesai, and ragas in my tunes whenever possible. When Ismail made snide references to my abilities I couldn't take it any more. I ticked him off good and proper. We'd have probably gone further in our fight. But I don't come from the same background as he does. I somehow held myself in check. But we decided, by consensus, that we would not sit on the same platform as Ismail Durbar. Thank God the camera wasn't on when all this happened."

Pausing to control his temper Aadesh continues, "He's an extremely budtameez insaan. I felt that he insulted Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasai when he commented about one of his students - 'Yeh sab ki bansuri bajaa dega'. Wasn't that a dig at the famous flautist himself? Ismail is always making such comments.

His war cry, 'Yalgaar!'(attack) makes him sound like a padosi from the neighbouring mulk. I told him that. And what are his credentials? He played the violin in the third row of Jatin-Lalit's orchestra before Sanjay Leela Bhansali discovered him. His only claim to fame is Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas. The worst mistake he made was to fight with his mentor Sanjay Bhansali. All his other scores have failed miserably. He bragged that he discovered Shreya Ghosal, when everyone knows it was Sanjay Bhansali who found her."

Aadesh is unsure about returning to judge Sa Re Ga Ma Challenge. "I've other commitments. I'm supposed to sing my own composition based on the Vedas at the opening of the Berlin Film Festival on 21 September. I can't be frittering away time fighting over lost causes. I firmly believe in the power of music contests like Sa Re Ga Ma to foster new singing talent for our film industry."

Aadesh recently completed his 60th album. "I'd rather concentrate on my music than on people who spread negative vibes," he finishes.

* I'd rather concentrate on my music than on people who spread negative vibes
— Aadesh Srivastava

Ismail Darbar Shoots Back
"I think whatever happened is too personal an issue to discuss in the press. But I can only say that everyone present there knew what happened. A lot of people were there. I was not alone; Himesh was also next to me. Aadesh has been saying all this and has been dragging me into it. I know I have a reputation of a person who remains aloof and who has an attitude problem. But I am sure some 500 people present on the set that day are aware of what the truth is. They are not deaf and dumb. I think the problem lies in his (Aadesh's) head.

I don't know Jatin-Lalit too well, so I would not like to comment on them. Despite being relatives (Jatin-Lalit and Aadesh are brothers-in-law), they can't stand each other, but I can't count on them. They have double standards. It's better that I keep my mouth shut or else it would get too nasty and ugly. I have never commented on his (Aadesh's) background so he has no right to comment on mine. Why is he the only one who complaining and speaking out? I think I should just be left alone. He (Aadesh) wants to unnecessary dominate, when he is a nobody. Uske jaisa laloo-panju mujhe dominate nahi kar sakta (Losers like him cannot dominate me). I would like you to ask the participants and the people present there to know what actually happened. The truth will be there for everyone to see. I never had anything to do with him (Aadesh) and I never will. I hope he mends his ways soon, else he will have to suffer. "
