Varshaji,
There is a director by name K.Vishwanath. He was responsible for Classical music rebirth in Telugu movies. An amazingly simple person and a great human being. I had the honor of meeting him and spent a whole evening talking to him.
Any of his movies will have excellent music. I will put up a list soon. You can check out Saagara sangamam in the meantime.

Is that the Kamal Hassan movie with the song Velvela Gopinmala? I would
love to hear Chandu sing that other classical song from the movie (name
escapes me) - -was it when he is demontrating the dancing or maybe
some other scene - -too long ago.

PM me with info too.

Shankarabharnam has heavenly songs.. I wish there was a regional language round as well.. Hemu would have swept every1 with Telugu songs which suit his voice more as they are more classical...

I have been out of touch with Telugu songs since I came to the US (had more access to Tamil songs). But here is one that I remember:

From Seetaramayya Gari Manavaraalu

http://www.telugufm.com/modules/music/MovieDetail.aspx?MID=1 0217

The first song is for sure classically-based.

Raghav, I would be interested in the list too. I'd like to hear some quality Telugu songs. I got a little tired of the 'Inka Janka jinka penkithananga' type songs.

MPL, I think Antara uses false voice. It is kind of squeaky and she struggles to sound well.
Anyway coming back to our discussion, brought backmemories
Shankarabaranam, saptapadi, sirivennela, sagara sangamam, swarnakamalam, sruthilayalu, swati muthyam, are a few of K Vishwanath movies.Awesome music with a very classical touch. YOu will love it.

Also in TAmil you need to hear Kandukondein Kandukondein, AR REhman, has a nice twist with western and indianclassical. beautiful songs
