Don't tell me they are bad we are good. When you compete with mainstream American market, you have to like that and best exampel is Crouching Tiger Hidden dragon and some other Asian movies. We are still not ready to influence in mainstream market.

Of the topic ...

I never said that we are good and they are bad. I would never compare it with Disney Productions like "Lion King" or "Beauty and the Beast", Bombay Dreams is no where near them.

In fact, your response already answers your question.

Producer of Cats : Andrew Lloyd Weber.

Producer of Phantom of the Opera : Andrew Lloyd Weber.

Producer of Bombay Dreams : Andrew Llyod Weber.

Andrew Lloyd Weber knows more about Broadway shows than anyone else. This should have started off as a Off-Broadway show (cheaper tickets) and they should have moved into Broadway show after it got popular in New York. It was a hit in London because, they know more about our culture(they better know about it after ruling us for 190 years).

Having said all that, I don't know why I am taking cudgels on behalf of ARR (die hard Illayaraja fans like me aren't supposed to do that).

Who are good composers in your opinion.....??
Also plz explain what South Indian instruments you have marked in his compositions with relevant examples.......

Hey,let me tell u that every South Indian is not Dr.Abdul Kalam, every barister is not Mahatma Gandhi & every Prime minister is not Indira Gandhi, now u'll tell what a gr8 deal,Deve Gouda was also Prime Minister, that doesn't make any sense dear.😊

Guys accept the fact. Roza came out in 1991 and in 15 years he composed 15 movies. If you spend 1 year ( that I doubt, he does tamil etc.) anybody could give good music.
I saw Bombay Dreams in London (NY was big flop). Most of the songs were from his previous movies.

Tell me how bad is just chill chill from Sakalaka baby ?
I heard he got a dipoloma/certficate course from Trinity school of music in London. What a big deal ? My teacher (In India,I also play keyboard) also had a dipolam from Trinity college.

You are right. Minimum qualification for a good composer should be 3 songs/day. 1000/year. Only HR qualifies for this today.

haan, also Half of Anu Mallick's compositions are either copy frm South or Western,ya,some of his songs which he composes are good, but his music is rather many many times simpler than ARR.

I would rather call Anu Mallick a mediocre composer.😊

Again, I never said he is crap/bad/ etc. etc. I have enough respect for him. To that matter he did compose some good songs. But I refuse to agree with you guys that he is the greatest and I have enough points in my earlier posts.
May be I am not knowledgeable as you guys, but only in Lagaan I found its very different tune than rest of his music.
I adore those people who are versatile. I wouldn't call Shiv-Hari as the top musician beucase their tunes are mainly on folk/country side.
Sorry to say, Annu Malik is more versatile than ARR. From Main khilari tu Anari to Fiza or from Sun sun barsat ki dhun (Sir) to Chali kaisi hawa (Main hu nah) he proved he can be treated as more versatile than lot of other so called greatest composer and as far as copying music is concerned who didn't do it ?

I am not here to argue with you all, will leave this thread.

Thanks all

ya,creativity and quality takes time,it's not that music is made in seconds,if they're made they're not upto standard.

If u hear those u'll have headache.😡

I like Rahman for the very reason that he composes few films because he wants listeners to have high quality music.

Everyone is not as blessed as genius IR to give 40 films / year with atleast 2 hits per film and maintain high quality.

Annu Malik & verstality??. Sorry to say that even Annu Malik would disagree.

Ruby,

Here are the links for couple of instrumentals by IR.

http://www.tamiltune.com/MJ/List.php?id=30

1. How to Name it (based on Violin)

2. Nothing but wind (based on Flute). Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia plays flute in this.
