Many hyopthesis are being given, acc to gossip gallery:
1. Lalit is a head strong person and he often had verbal duel with Jatin regarding the money they charge, not flaunting their connection in industry etc. Lalit thinks public relations are more important in getting movies, Jatin doesn't.
2.No major hit after Hum Tum
3.Financial conflicts regarding extension of studio, fees they charge
4.paucity of jobs in hand

But I think there is no musician who hasn't hit rough patch in career, Panchamda, Kalyanji, LP ALL OF THEM.
Regards

In their defense it is hard to really work together and be brothers.

While JL have seperated, looking at it positively, I can only say that if they gave such melodious music in 40 odd movies together, we are in for a DOUBLE treat when they compose music for a movie each...ending up with a century collectively.😃

Jatin aur Lalit Mein Hai Dum...Jum Ke Rakhenge woh Kadam

JL's music will stand the test of time. If you enjoy melody just listen to their songs..
But I hope that both Jatin and Lalit had the same amount of input for their compositions. If not, it will be quite apparent when we hear their music, who was the more musically talented. For e.g, Pyarelal of the Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo was the arranger, with Laxmikant doing most of the composing.
JL's split came down to the only two things which can create a rift between people, woman and money...
Jatin's wife apparently didn't get along with Lalit too well.
I just wish both of them the best and hope that they continue their tradition of melodious music.....

A simily:
After Pink Floyd separation Dave Gilmour was more popular than Roger Waters, though individual albums never rose to the height of Another Brick in the Wall.
