Reality singing star consumes pills, critical

LUCKNOW: City-based singer Poonam Jatav was on Saturday evening rushed to the Civil Hospital after she reportedly consumed some pills. Later, she was referred to the CSM medical University as her condition deteriorated. Her condition was stated to be critical.

Poonam had shot into instant fame after figuring as a finalist in a talent hunt singing show on television. She had won the hearts of people and judges alike with her mellifluous voice.

According to her mother Shivratri, Poonam, who works as a booking clerk in Northern Railways, returned home in the afternoon and straight away went in her room. After some time, Shivratri found her lying in an unconscious state. She was immediately rushed to the emergency unit of the Civil Hospital.

Poonam, who lives in Lakdi Mohal in Cantt police circle, was under the observation of doctors till reports last came.

When contacted, chief medical superintendent (CMS), Civil Hospital, Dr AK Chawla told TOI that Poonam was critical and they were closely monitoring her condition.

Poonam's journey from a life of penury to fame on the basis of her talent had inspired many. She has done her schooling from Maharaja Agrasen School and graduation from Sanskrit Paathshala in Hindi and Education. She had enrolled for 'nipud' (postgraduation in music) at Bhatkhande but was soon selected for the talent show where she ended up being a finalist. Her family, meanwhile, was tightlipped on the reasons that led Poonam to consume the pills.
