The Telly Tubbies

You know them by: They shake hands with one guest, air kiss another, scream out a greeting to a third and wave at the fourth. They are the stars from Tellywood who know the fine art of partying. After their long and erratic hours of work, you're bound to spot them all dressed up sans their onscreen look at a party or event every night — lounging, boogieing away or enjoying a drink.

Usual suspects: This clan has gained popularity because of the saas-bahu soaps. Anuj Saxena is a favourite host and when he throws a party, all his friends from the industry make it a point to show up. Shraddha Niggam is a self-proclaimed party buff and is not ashamed of having fun. Juhi Parmar believes parties are a way to network. Rohit Roy is another party-hearty regular of this tribe.

Most likely to say: "Television actors have always been partying, but it's only recently that they are being noticed as television has never been this big," says Juhi. While for Shraddha, a party is a chance to unwind, "Given the number of hours I have to put in at the studios, I jump at the opportunity of clubbing. I can't do it every weekend, but when I do party, I have a blast." Even the men don't want to miss out on the fun. "I throw parties not to network, but simply because I feel like enjoying myself. I also love to involve my friends in the celebrations and I see no harm in that," justifies Anuj. "A few years ago when a filmstar walked into a party, the cameramen would go on a clicking spree. Things have changed, thanks to our medium," believes Rohit.

Tribal future: "New and talented faces that are spotted at these parties will be noticed. But how much will that help their career is questionable," says Juhi. While Shraddha feels partying is part of a television actor's job, "It is very important to network and to be seen and heard about." It's obvious that these new party revelers are here to stay!

Gup shup

It seems like actress Shital Thakkar believes in talking for effect or perhaps she has weird tastes in men. Else, why would she rate Bobby Darling the sexiest man on television. I'm sure hunks like Akashdeep Sehgal and Sudhanshu Pandey are going to take strong offence.

Also, methinks Bobby would much rather the men admired him than the ladies. To add to this she admits to lusting after actor Brad Pitt. Seriously, from Bobby to Brad is quite a range to scale ain't it? But you've got to give full marks to this girl for honesty.

For after all this, she even confessed that people fail to recognise her off screen. Considering all the layers of pancake that she dons to look glam, she must really look ordinary minus the layers of make-up off screen. Can't blame her fans for seeing through her can we?

Rangeela re!

boy zone: Blue lenses

Anuj Saxena may be a smooth operator as far as his business sense goes, but the actor's got a long way to go before you can call him stylish. And he's taken his penchant for variety and colour to a whole new level.
Anuj was spotted at several different venues sporting coloured contact lenses that coordinated with his outfit of the evening.
Come on Anuj, what's with this hideous sense of style (or should we say, the lack of it?) There are better ways to add colour to your life than wearing those rang-birangi lenses!

zapped zombie: Weird lenses
wet, wet, wet: Light brown lenses

earthy: Dark brown lenses

Back to the Future

After Future Studios 1, Mona Kapoor has come up with Future Studio 2 right behind the first one. "We had a land right behind our studio and for a long time the producers have been demanding sets for exclusive use. I thought of an idea and decided to build a three-storied building without pillars. That way I managed to get two sets on every floor. Now I have six sets in all," she says.

"Even in the past, producers have booked sets for years to work on a certain project. So, I wanted to experiment and it is working well for the time being," says Mona. "Sony wanted me to build a set for Vaidehi. The next generation house of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Risshton Ki Dor are the other serials which have their exclusive sets at Future Studios now.

My pets…..my best friends

Friendship is one precious relationship that all humans treasure. But there are a select few who prefer the company of their pets. And calling them 'pets' is also offensive for some; they call them 'family'. We decided to chat up with a few telly actresses who have housed various breeds of dogs, cats, parrots and even a turtle!

Shital Thakkar - My dog is a Daschund whom we call Juan. The child in me surfaces whenever I play with him. I have noticed that because of Juan, my family has become very demonstrative in terms of love. If I'm out for a long time, he complains by barking and jumping. But sometimes it's confusing to understand him. One thing for sure, my dog is a very good actor.

Narayani Shastri - I have two dogs; a Pomeranian, Perky and a Daschund, Kajri. I got the latter one just a few days back. Perky has been with me since eight years and she emotes like any normal human being. She had a fit problem, which is now cured. My pets are like a family to me. I feel they are like these life-long babies to be taken care of. The moment I come, both of them get very excited.

Moonmoon - Dogs are the best creations of God. Reverse the spelling of God , and it's Dog. I have two Pomeranian dogs, Boozy and Chimpoo. One is twelve and the other is ten years old. My pets are my world and I treat them like my kids. Boozy is my first kid. I have been an animal lover since childhood. While growing up, I have interacted more with animals than human beings. Even today, I prefer them to humans as they are not at all selfish. You give them one percent love and they return hundred percent. As soon as I'm home, they don't leave me for at least 20 minutes.

Geetanjali Tikkekar - My association with animals goes back to my childhood days. My family owns a farm, so farm animals were and still are my first pets. We are three siblings, and each one had their own set of pets. That means that our house was infested with at least 10 cats and a few dogs, as far as my memory goes. With age, we all grew and left home for work or studies, but our pets still stay there. Even today, my mom takes care of eight cats, three dogs and a turtle! My younger sister is a veterinary surgeon and every now and then she brings home a broken wing or lost limb. Once the animals have healed, I'm very happy.

Nausheen Ali Sardar - I have two Rottweilers, Simba and Bratt and two Pugs, Lucky and Bambi. The Pugs are a mother-daughter duo. They are an extended family and are looked after more than anyone else. Dandruff to nails, everything is monitored. They are very good stress busters. Whenever you see them you want to pamper them. Not only do they bring a smile on our face but also bond my family. My sisters take care of all the pets The excitement on their face, each time I return home from a shoot, has to be seen. Their love is natural and unconditional. I can't imagine life without my pets.

Jaya Bhattacharya - It was an encounter with a street dog, about six years ago, that made me fall in love with them. I have four German Shepherds; Begam, Devil, Janeman and Barood. I also have a cat called Changez Khan and a bird, Chunmun. I treat them like my kids. They complete my life, and give me unconditional and unlimited love without asking. There have been times when my servants hide about the ill-health of my pets from me when I am shooting, as they know I'll get very tensed. Dogs hanging around my sets also recognize me and my voice. You won't believe, even street dogs respond to me, which is very surprising!

Moonmoon ki nayi kasauti!

The buzz on the Rishhton Ki Dor sets is that Urvashi Dholakia is giving her the cold shoulder
Shaheen Parkar
shaheen@mid-day.com

There is a slice of Kasautii Zindagii Kay happening on Rishhton Ki Dor. Besides Urvashi Dholakia, Moonmoon has just stepped into the Sony afternoon drama. The common factor between both actresses is the Balaji show Kasautii on Star Plus. And knowing the problems galore on Kasautii's sets, an echo is already being felt on the sets of Risshton. The unit buzz is that Dholakia is a tad unhappy with the idea of having another female character in the show, that too a Kasautii co-star. When asked about her so-called cold vibes with Dholakia, Moonmoon says, "We share an extremely professional relationship; there is nothing personal in it."
Rocking affair
Currently, Moonmoon's character Sampada is the latest wife of Anurag Basu (Cezanne Khan) in Kasautii. "Sampada is rocking at the moment," says Moonmoon. Dholakia is also back in the daily to continue with her scheming Komolika act.
Now both Moonmoon and Dholakia cross paths in Risshton Ki Dor. Moonmoon plays the other woman in Suhas' (Anuj Saxena) life that is Noyonika's (Dholakia) husband. Says Moonmoon, "The main reason why I took up this role is because it's something I have never done before. I play Neha, a special investigation officer. So there are no saris, I am in corporate suits and I even wear spectacles. The look is very much like Bipasha Basu in Corporate, including that tightly pushed back hair."
Bhaiya bana saiyan
Adds the actress, "What's most interesting for me in Risshton Ki Dor is that I play Anuj's love interest. Years ago, in Kkusum, I had played his character Abhay's sister. I have been treating him like an elder brother since then and it's quite odd romancing him on the show now."
Moonmoon began shooting for Risshton Ki Dor on Wednesday in Mona Kapoor's Future Studios at Goregaon. "I have just shot for a few scenes as it is my first day on the sets; I am waiting for the character to develop."
The actress has also lost a lot of weight recently through strict dieting and gymming. "It is very noticeable and I have managed to knock off all the chubbiness."

Moonmoon's fact file
Moonmoon's earlier TV shows include Bandhan (DD), Ghar Ek Mandir, Kkusum (Sony), Awaaz (Zee) and Kamini Damini (SaharaOne). She also featured in a Telugu film, Yagnam. Besides doing a cameo in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, she also features in the Balaji show Krimson Skies that is in a state of limbo.

The X factor

Just how do you deal with an ex-flame? From drink flinging to air kissing, find effective 'solutions' here.

All good things come to an end. As do all bad things. But whichever way you view a relationship on the rocks, the cardinal rule is - in the ultimate analysis, it's nobody's fault. While different people react differently when a relationship ends, if the disillusionment is mutual, the parting can even retain a semblance of amicability. The trouble starts when one partner feels wronged or cheated and refuses to let go.

Handling strong post-break-up emotions isn't easy, but it's possible. "It's best to move on because you can't force anyone to love you. It's much better to just be upfront about it and part ways," says TV actor Kulraj Randhawa.

Tears for fears: For those guys who are looking to 'get back' with their ex girlfriend, the only worthwhile strategy is to pretend you're okay with her decision to leave and start dating other people — all the while making sure she gets to know about it. If that doesn't work, most majnus are known to get drunk and bang their car into hers or make a zillion calls to her present boyfriend to harass the daylights out of him (Sallu - Vivek). Or do something equally stupid that lands them in hospital or jail.

Moreover, trying to 'get her back' sends out vibes of desperation and being needy — which completely short circuits the I-don't-give-a-sh** front. Grit your teeth, be a man and move on.

Work it out: It's always a double-edged sword to date someone in your own profession. When Rajiv Sahu (name changed), a senior television journalist, was selected to jointly head a new Hindi news channel he discovered that the other person was none other than his ex-wife's new husband. They did try to co-exist, but to cut a long story short, one of them eventually put in his papers. In the insulated world of celebhood, bumping into an ex-flame — or worse, their current partner - is often unavoidable.

Says TV actor Anuj Saxena, "Frankly, in films and television, relationships are rampant. Most actors have to deal with broken relationships, but you just have to be sensible about it. And being actors, keeping things under control is perhaps that much easier."

Take the middle path: Ultimately it's a matter of choice — either be a sport about it like Dino Morea was — he starred in the film 'Chehra' with former flame Bipasha Basu though she was going steady with John Abraham by then — or splash some wine on your husband's ex-wife ala Raveena Tandon.

That's why it was a reassuring sight to see Abhishek Bachchan and Salman Khan share the stage without any apparent rancour during a recent show by jewellery designer Farah Khan.

But action star Akshay Kumar, who had a slew of affairs before he married Twinkle Khanna, still seems ill at ease over bumping into any of his ex-girlfriend. "I'll just say a polite hello and move on," he's been quoted as saying. In contrast, Shilpa Shetty has completely healed her past. "Why should it just be a polite hello? It would be a hearty hello from my side. I have nothing against Akshay Kumar. We have done quite a few shows together. There is no ill-feeling from my side — life's too short to hold any grudges." Manav and Shweta team up for kid's film

Ranjib Mazumder

It's a double bonanza for the audience! Manav Gohil is teaming up with two newcomers in the upcoming Sach Huye Sapne Mere. "This is Anuj Saxena's home production. The story is about a boy and a girl who are best friends. But the boy is in love with someone else," says Manav. So, how was it working with the newcomers? "Both are very professional in their attitude and are open to suggestions," Manav adds.

But, Manav is yet to know whether Sach Huye Sapne Mere will be a weekly or a daily soap. "I have no clue about that. It's Anuj's baby and he will decide upon it," Manav says, who is currently busy rehearsing with his wife Shweta for Naxch Baliye 2. "We had a lot of trouble during the practice sessions. Shweta has also hurt herself while practicing," adds Manav.

Besides, the much awaited dance show, both of them are teaming up for a children's film too. "It's about fantasy and adventure. The title is yet to be decided. The film will also have a lot of special effects and animation. We have almost completed the shootings. It will release in December," says Manav.

Anuj is juror for Emmys

The versatile Anuj Saxena (doctor, actor, producer, restaurateur and entrepreneur) has added another feather to his cap! He has been recently invited by The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to participate as a juror. As a Juror Anuj will be judging the category of Best Performance by an Actor for the Final Round of Judging of the 2006 International Emmy Awards. He will be judging 8 entries for this category.

"It's an honour to be a part of Emmys. I mean there cannot be anything bigger than this as far as international television goes. I mean if you compare the worldover there would be so many deserving candidates. Also on a personal level it will also be a learning experience to watch shows from across the world," says an elated Anuj. He will be judging 8 entries for this category.

Currently Anuj is busy diversifying into television programming says, "Currently, I am trying to work on a few soaps, with some off beat storylines. I think in the Indian context we have to still scale up to the international standards in terms of the production values. Thought here there has been an attempt to adopt newer concepts and tele novellas, finally we have to Indianise it to suit our Indian sensibilities, says Anuj.

"I hope to definitely benefit from being as a juror for the Emmies, both as an actor and as a producer. Afterall, the attempt is to match our programming worldclass.

The jury panel consists of television, producers, directors, performers, and executives from around the world to honour the best in international television production.
This is the first time that Anuj will be a juror for the Emmy Awards. The International Emmy Award is known worldwide for honoring excellence in programming produced outside of the United States.

The 34th International Emmy Awards Gala will take place on Monday, November 20, 2006 in New York City. In addition, the Academy holds a television festival the weekend prior to the Gala.
