When Priya (Anvesha), Sakshi Talwar (Vrinda) and Surili Joseph (Maria Priya) moved from their respective homes in Yari Road, Four Bungalows and Vashi to share a two-bedroom flat in Malad, little did they know that the time and money-saving arrangement would result in a deep bond of friendship.

"We chat on the sets and at home; people on the sets wonder why we don't get bored of each other," says Surili. Almost strangers in the beginning, the trio now share food, hobbies, and even clothes.

"We fit into each other's clothes easily since we are the same size," reveals Sakshi. The spunky threesome tell you how to choose and live with a roomie, without getting into each other's hair.

1. Find the right apartment
You never know where the perfect lead will come from, but people are often your best source. So, tell everyone you know that you are looking for a suitable apartment. It might take longer than you think, so start looking well before you leave home.

2. Hunt for the apt roomie
Will you accept a roommate who smokes, has a girlfriend/boyfriend, or pets? Choose a morning person or a night owl depending on your work hours and when you usually get home. Screen potential roommates on the phone. If you can tell right away that someone won't work out, don't waste your time meeting him or her face-to-face. Ask for references from landlords and friends.

3. Avoid great expectations
Don't expect your new roommate to be your new best friend. While the two of you may become good friends, it is not a prerequisite for sharing an apartment.

4. Be prepared to compromise
Sharing an apartment or house with someone else usually requires some adjustment. Chances are you can no longer have your friends over all night, every night, watch any show you want on TV or leave the dishes dirty.

5. Tidy does the trick
It is important to find a roommate who has similar ideas of tidiness. Though you do not need to be equally neat or messy, it helps if the two of you are within range of each other.

6. Money matters

Find someone you can discuss finances with. Since you will be splitting the bills on electricity, gas, cable, Internet and furniture, it is important that you can candidly discuss your concerns over the huge telephone bill or whether paying for premium cable channels is worth the cost.

7. Discuss who you want over
Discuss how often you like having people over, including how many at a time (three parties in a week or two lunches?) and for how long (you or your roommate invite out-of-town friends to spend the night). If either of you dislikes having people over all the time or does not want a stranger sleeping on the couch, it is good to know this beforehand.

8. Bedtime stories
Discuss when you go to bed and how sound a sleeper you are. Imagine this scenario: You go to bed early during the week, but your roommate always has five people over who talk loudly, late into the night. Or that you stay out late often and watch TV before going to bed, but your roommate always asks you to turn it down.

9. Compatibility is the key
Friends don't always make the best roommates. You see your friends on a limited basis so you don't have to deal with messiness or obsessive neatness. This will change once you become roommates and see each other every day. So, be honest about your lifestyle preferences.

10. Trust your instinct
Don't try to convince yourself that you will be able to change yourself; instead change the roommate or grow to like the roommate. The last thing you want is to see a person you detest, at home, day after day.

Why have a roommate?

It's cheaper as costs of rent, utilities and food are split between two or more people.
Household chores are a shared responsibility.
You can often afford a bigger apartment with more living space if you split costs.
A roommate can save you from falling into the loneliness trap.

How to get along
Approach your roommate about problems in a tactful manner. Don't let tension build to a boiling point.
Respect your roommate's privacy and opinions. Try to compromise on sensitive issues.
Work together to determine shared responsibilities such as housecleaning and cooking, and establish a set of household rules.
Work with your roommate to create an agreement that outlines your shared responsibilities and spells out methods of resolving disputes. Put it in writing and sign it.
Don't complain about your roommate to the landlord in order to maintain good landlord-tenant relations.

Beware of:
Lack of privacy.
Someone else's problems can become yours.
Relying on someone else to fulfill obligations of chores, rent and cleanliness.

Mansee loves singing Remix-ed tunes

December 9, 2005

Mansee Deshmukh
Playing the principal's daughter on screen can be an interesting challenge for an actor. Ask Rani Mukerji, who played Tina, the sexy yet sweet daughter of the college principal in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

Or closer home, ask Mansee Deshmukh, a resident of Sector 28, Vashi, who plays the daughter of Maurya Heights' principal in the popular teen serial Remix on Star One.

As Latika, Mansee makes sure her viewers hate and love her at the same time. Having done that successfully for one season, Mansee is back in the second season of Remix.

"Latika has new friends this year. Her character has transformed a little, but she is still the bad girl," she says. The 21-year-old celebrity adds a quick prayer: "I hope my fan like the new Latika."

Mansee says she always knew she'd make it big in showbiz. "Though I am not trained in acting, I always wanted to be a part of this industry," says Mansee, currently completing her TYBMM degree at Swami Vivekananda, Chembur. Mansee had auditioned for a show for a company called Rose Audio Visual. "I was surprised when I was told I was chosen to play Latika. The role just fell in my kitty," she says.

For now, Mansee is happy playing Latika. But soon she wants to make the all-important leap to Bollywood. "I want to work with Ram Gopal Varma," she concludes.

Mansee, Kunal love singing Remi-ed tunes
November 30, 2005

While most youngsters will say that Remix on Star One is one of their favourite shows, for Chembur's Mansee Deshmukh and Kunal Kapoor the show is more than that.

That's because they essay the characters of Latika and Varun, respectively, in this teen show. metro speaks to the duo about their transformation in the second season of the popular series, their future plans and their real calling.

I want my viewers to love me, says Mansee

Mansee Deshmukh always knew she would make it big in the glamour world. Says this 21-year-old TYBMM student of Swami Vivekananda College, "Though I am not professionally trained in acting, I always wanted to be a part of the glamour industry."

She adds the role of Latika just fell into her kitty. "I had auditioned for a show for a company called Rose Audio Visual. I was surprised when I learnt that I was chosen to play the character of Latika, the daughter of the principal of Maurya Heights."

Telling us more about her second avtaar in the second season which began this month, Mansee says, "Latika has got new friends and though her character has transformed slightly, she still remains the bad girl. I just hope my viewers like the new Latika."

Mansee, who is happy playing Latika at the moment, says she wants to make a mark in Bollywood. "I want to be recognised as a good actress in the future. I am also looking forward to working with Ram Gopal Varma," she concludes.

I'm no shy guy, says Kunal

Kunal Kapoor, a Vasant Park resident, always wanted to be behind the camera. "Direction is my real passion. I want to make films one day," says the 23-year-old. When asked why is he playing the boy-next-door Varun in Remix, he says, "I just wanted to try my hand at acting, so I auditioned for the show and was chosen to play the role of Varun."

This former call centre employee adds, "Acting has also been a great learning experience. I have become more mature and responsible. It's nice when people on the street recognise you and ask for autographs."

Kunal, who loves making trips to Lonavala and also to Goa on his bike, says, "The viewers will see a more confident Varun in the second season. He will no longer stammer, wear smart clothes and might even have a new girlfriend."

About his future plans, Varun says, "Though I want to move to direction, I also want to continue acting, especially in Remix as it's my first show."

About the show

Remix is set in a school, Maurya Heights, which has students from different backgrounds. The story revolves around the students, their lives, insecurities, friendships, rivalries and ambitions. It's also about how central characters Tia, Anvesha, Yuvi and Ranveer come together and form a music group.

Enchanting moments of the year

The year has almost come to an end, but the memories of this time will live forever. Hundreds and thousands of incidents happen with our small screen actors, but only a few becomes memories. Riya V Anandwala asks the television actors about their enchanting experiences, moments and memories throughout this year. Let see what they have to say.

Shweta Gulati

Shweta Gulati

There have been innumerable enchanting moments throughout this year. But 2 which I can recall are, firstly the Remix album launch lately. It took place at the planet M, and it was a fabulous launch. The man from times group music told us that I have never seen such an amazing launch ever in my whole career. We had an excellent fan following and were eagerly waiting for the music to release. The copies were sold out on the very first day itself. Another incedient happened recently too, when one of my interviews were published bu Bombay Times and my sister called me and said that I am so proud to be your sister and I can't believe it that I am your sister. These words really mean a lot to me.

Rohit Roy

Sarrkar was as a whole an enchanting experience. Before Sarrkar, it seems that I never did work. Other than that, Nach Baliye was also a superb experience. Not for long though, but still it was good. Not enchanting for us nonetheless definitely enchanting for the audience. This year was really good, as it was my daughter Kaira's third birthday. It too brought good memories.

Poonam Narulla

Definitely Nach Baliye has been a very important part of our life. Firstly it was a remarkable experience to work with my husband, (Manish) again after three years. There have been loads of good memories on Nach Baliye itself; I and Manish have made such good friends who will be with us for a life's time. There have been so many, but one memory which I will never forget is the wedding round on the show. It was the turning point for us. And we actually performed so well that we got two things from Sarojji, the seeti and the money. Other than this, I was very happy to see my son grow this year.

Tassneim Sheikh

Well there are so many good memories; picking on one is a little difficult. But yes there was one memory which I can never forget and that was Sameer coming on the sets of Kyunki… and surprising me. It was a heavy day, shooting from morning till night. I was really tired and wanted to meet him, but couldn't do so as I was really busy. I was very upset as it was the third consecutive day which I was about to spend without him. But then suddenly it was him on the sets and then we had lunch together. It was a very beautiful day and I can never forget it.

Karishma Tanna

Karishma Tanna

Oh well, Palkhi's launch was one day which I can never forget. It was damn good. We got a lot of attention, and everyone was enjoying the launch. It felt really good. More than that, I was extremely happy to see a cake only for me and my co-star Abhay Wakil. Though I am not a cake freak but still I was flattered to see something like that.

Makeover ho to aisa!

Priya Wal
The small screen has had umpteen makeovers till date across all channels. But Star One's Remix has not only taken the cake, but also the cherry along with it.

Those following the show will be pleasantly surprised to see the introduction of a new character Babloo Singh on the show. This Babloo is none other than Anvesha (Priya Wal) who's having fun playing pranks on people and having a great time at their expense. "I am having a ball playing Babloo.

Recently I was shooting and these kids turned up to meet me on the sets. They loved my Sardarji get-up and told me how much they love the show." In the coming weeks, watch out for Babloo creating more hungama on Remix.

Shweta Gulati

It was two and a half years back, after I had made my debut on television in Shagun on Star Plus. I went to this play ground near Inorbit Mall, where a handicraft mela was happening. There were chaat stalls.

So, I went to eat, when suddenly about 20 kids came to me with their mummies and spoke to me. They called me Juhi, which is my name in the serial. That was my first experience of stardom. It felt great to be recognized. It really hit me and I will always remember that moment.

Soniya Kapoor
This was six years back, when I made my debut on television in Zanjeerein on Zee TV. I had gone for the outdoor shoot to Punjab for the first schedule.

After the first episode was aired, I went to Ludhiana for the second schedule, and a school there felicitated me and they gave me an appreciation award.

It was a great feeling, to go on stage and give a small speech and show off. That was the moment when I felt like a star.
