Remix Rage

Elle 18 gets up close and personal with Anvesha and Tia from the popular show Remix and gets them to talk about everything from their clothes to their love life.

Anvesha is the red haired brat who everyone either hates or loves. She's made the grungy and wacky look quite popular with the girls. They love her attitude and confidence. She likes to stand out in a crowd with her funky look. Priya Wal gives the whole credit for her on screen look to Tania Behl, the Remix designer. In real life, Priya's dad is the principal of Lawrence school, Ooty, while her mom's a teacher. She herself graduated in English Honours from Mayo College, Ajmer. "Earlier I had shoulder length straight black hair. I am not over the top like Anvesha. But I do identify a bit with her coz I am a rebel and a big time brat like her." Any similarities in their love life? She says laughing, "Anvesha poor thing keeps falling for guys who hurt her. Luckily, I am not that naive. I was seeing some one in Delhi but no one at present."

How does the daughter of educationists become an actor? "I'll put it very frankly. I was a national level tennis player. I wanted to be the next Steffi Graff but I woke up from the dream and realised that it'll never happen... unless you're playing cricket. I was spending more than I was earning. I realised that I wanna make my money. Then modeling happened and I grabbed the opportunity. It's something you get addicted to. You start enjoying your work, the easy money and all the attention," she says.

Remix Rage!

She's Shweta Gulati, the soft-spoken Barbie Dollish, Tia of Remix. Tia is pretty, stylish and loves to dress well. Her clothes are frilly, girly and the colour pink features the most in her wardrobe. She likes to dress up like a princess. About her look she says," Tania Behl is totally responsible for it and I think it's brilliant coz I am getting a lot of compliments for it."

Is she like Tia in real life too? After thinking a bit she answers, "Shweta wasn't soft spoken but she's become soft spoken. Tia and Shweta are very, very, very different from each other. But Tia has brought a lot of changes in Shweta. Shweta is now become more self-conscious. She'll think twice before wearing anything. Even when I am at home I'll check my face for p***les."

Shweta is a Commerce graduate from Mulund College, Mumbai. She was into the corporate world for about 3 years. One day she accompanied her cousin to an audition but got chosen herself. She says, "Acting has become my life and I can't think beyond that anymore and I don't think I'll get back to the corporate world ever." She believes that all you need is confidence and will power and you can get what you want. So any special person in your life? "No, I am happy being single," she says laughing.

Producer Shrishti Behl Arya (Remix) is the daughter-in-law of veteran theatre actress Sulbha Arya (Kantaben of Kal Ho Naa Ho). She is married to Sulbha's son, cinematographer Sameer. Sulbha's other son, actor Sagar, who is based in London, is married to Basu Bhattacharya's daughter Anvesha.

Anvesha's locks in trouble?

It's difficult to keep up with one's image...no one knows this more than the bindaas babe, Priya Wal, who almost lost the red streak in her hair during the 26 July deluge!
"It's fading...I have to redo it...," laments the gal, who has taken tellydom by storm with her no nonsense attitude! Priya, who plays Anvesha in the teen show, Remix is very popular among the kids for her whacky sense of dressing and her eccentric ways!
Surely, Ashi without the tell patent red locks, will not be the brat we know!

"We are doing all parents a favour!"

This is a fairytale in the modern era. Meet Prince Charming, Karan 'Ranveer' Wahi and his princess, Shweta 'Tia' Gulati --- the endearing couple who make up the team of Star One's Remix.

Shweta Gulati and Karan Wahi: In love!
Tia and Ranveer are two of the foursome who have made Remix lingo a rage amongst the teen population of the country! If Tia has made short dresses look cute, then Ranveer has made the ethnic, look stylish. Ananya Sengupta caught up with the duo on the sets of Remix working and having some fun at the same time!

You people really look nice together!

Tia: Yes, we do, don't we? (nudges Ranveer) Now we are romancing on screen too!
Ranveer: Yes, it's great fun to work with her. In fact, the whole cast is wonderful…they are like family.

Is that why you all are not doing any other show

Tia: Well, Remix is so much a part of me now…But you know, it is important that I do one show at a time. I am Tia Ahuja now. I try to dress and talk like her. I can't move around in jeans any longer…I am supposed to be a 17year old now! (laughs)
Ranveer: She even calls her dad pappa nowadays..
Tia: No! I always used to call him pappa (hits him)

Tia, we know that you had refused an Ekta show...
Tia: That was a long time ago. That was not something that I wanted to do...

Ranveer, you didn't tell me why you are not doing any other shows…
Ranveer: Oh yes, I am not doing any other show because, frankly because I don't want to. We get only Sundays off, and

Karan, Shweta, Raj and Priya: The gang!
I want to be myself then.

So what do you do when you are not shooting?
Tia: I meet up my parents, spend time with my family.
Ranveer: You'll find me in Inorbit, playing video games..
Tia: He is a freak, when it comes to video games, you know!

What do like to wear the most?
Tia: Jeans and T-shirts. You know I like to wear sarees, but know that I have to be a 17 year old, I wear dresses and skirts..

Lakme Fahion house...
Tia: I thought Joby was fabulous...
Ranveer: It was Joby all the way for me, but I guess Shahzad won because of his last garment! But Yuvi (Raj) always gunned for Shahzad...didn't he?( asks Tia)
Tia: As if he knew that Shahzad is going to win!

So how much do you identify with your characters on the show…are they real?
Tia: Tia is real, in fact, I have a friend who behaves exactly like Tia. Her hair, her skin etc are most important to her! The only thing different is that she doesn't have a business tycoon as her father. And even Anvesha, my sister is exactly like her. She will do exactly what my mother asks her not to do.
Ranveer: I don't identify at all…

Why…
Ranveer: I have never been to a college like this. I am in school…

Not studying?

Tia and Ranveer:Striking a different pose!
Ranveer: I am 18. I am doing college through correspondence. I was this pampered kid….
Tia: He is pampered by everyone here…

Ranveer: (Gives Tia a dirty look) As I was saying…I was big time into cricket. Then I sent my portfolio to different places and landed up with the role of Ranveer.

What about films?
Ranveer: I am too young…I have lots of time..
Tia: I am doing a film for Jolly and Romilla Mukherjee. It is a fun movie…

Tell me the controversy over the language used in 'Remix'…
Tia: You know I believe that we have actually done a favour by letting parents know about the language kids use behind their back! This is how kids talk…
Ranveer: The words are not vulgar. I don't know what the controversy is all about…

What about your own parents?
Tia: My sister has really picked up the lingo.
Ranveer: My dad says bhaggu and I have to listen to endless duh's. In the serial, I am the only one in the serial who uses aap's and hum's. My dad and my friends feel that I Remix ne mere bachche ko sudhar diya hai! ( Remix has improved my son!)

Have you ever been mobbed?
Tia: All the time. Once when I had gone to watch a movie Karan ( Ranveer) really scared me by hollering my name at the top of his voice. I was so embarassed!
Ranveer: In Delhi, I thought only Bollywood stars get mobbed...but....
Tia: But television stars are bigger nowadays!

iamn't sure if dis is old iam sorry if it is old!

It's got the look
Remix, popular daily on Star One is targetted at the generation X and has succeeded in setting trends amongst the youngsters. Tanya, the dress designer of Remix has given each character a distinctive look. Be it Tia's petite look, Yuvraj's macho rockstar image or the wild child carefree look of Anvesha. The hep look is completely in synch with the times. The makers claim that Saif Ali Khan wearing an array of funky of wrist bands in Salaam Namaste is like the ones Priya Wal (Anvesha) sports and the serial. You can even find shades of Ranveer's look in Angad of Kaisa Hai Yeh Pyar Hai played by Iqbal Khan, point out the makers. Tut, tut.

REMIX WAITS FOR NAKUL:
If you were wondering where is Nakul from the teen targeted serial Remix these days, here's what happened to him. He walked for hours together, on 26th July and waded through the floods to reach home. He has been taken ill since then and is still has not recovered.. Which is why he was shown to
leave school to go to his native place urgently due to a relative falling sick in the serial. "It was very nice of the producers not to have replaced him. They are waiting for him to get well, and his character will be revived then. The only problem is that Nakuls girlfriend's track in the serial had to be axed, as there is not much she can do without Nakul here", says lead artist Shweta
Gulati (Tia). Atleast Nakul survived the plastic surgery!

Tellyville Bound:

Newly anointed TV darling is Priya Wal, the incorrigible Anvesha of trendsetting high school serial, Re-Mix. Her red hair, skimpy skirts and trademark 'Duhuh' are creating a mass hysteria amongst the baba log. "Living Anvesha 24/7, I've turned into a brat," Priya confesses. "In fact, my father, Harsh Wal, is the headmaster of Lawrence School, Lovedale, and after watching my antics in Maurya High, he's positive nobody will give him a school job again!"
