Shweta Gulati

She makes sure that her nails are filed even before her homework is done. Meet Miss Touch-me-not Tia Ahuja or Shweta Gulati from the teen soap Remix.

The daughter of a rich widower businessman, she is a complete spoilt brat in the soap and that's the best part about her character.

With sweet sixteen looks and a very charming smile, she's the new kid on the block and a really promising one for sure. Sparkling eyes that don't let you keep your eyes off her, her acting ability is exceptional as well. Stay that way, girl!

This mix rocks hard

The young cast of the Star One serial Remix say that the characters they play perfectly reflects the aspirations of today's youngsters

Rashmi Kumar

Pune, April 24: The remix generation is in and nowhere is it more apparent than on Remix - the new soap that airs on Star One, from Monday to Thursday. Be it the wacky hairdo of Anvesha, the sensuous style of Tia, the high-energy of Ranvir or the attitude of Yuvi. In the city on a promotional tour, of the six months old soap, the cast had enough reasons to prove why they were indeed apt representatives of the remix generation.

Raj Singh Arora, who plays Yuvi in the soap is quite a Pune boy - a law graduate from Symbiosis, he still carries fond memories of the city and his eyes light up when he talks about the good ol days. "I've spend some of my best years in Pune. Although I was studying here, it was like a paid vacation for me. I still remember the Marz-o-rin lemon tarts and delicacies from Just Baked," says he. A former VJ on Zee Music, Arora has this to say about his role, "I play this best-looking boy of the school, who has girls swooning over him, but cannot fathom the enigma called Anvesha."

Priya Wal (Anvesha)— Arora's love interest in the soap too seems to relate to her role. Ask her about the striking red streaks in her hair and she jokes, "Oh I was born with it! I play this sharp-tongued mischief-maker albeit with a good heart. While, I am a rock fanatic in real life, I get to play a rocker in the serial as well."

Shweta Gulati, playing Tia in Remix turned down an offer from Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms, to join the serial. But Gulati had a tough time relating to her character in the serial. "I play the role of a snooty and self-conscious girl who wants to change the world around her. In real life I am quite carefree and least of all snooty," she shares.

Karan Wahi, who plays Ranvir, too feels distant from the character he plays, "I am quite a brat otherwise, but in the serial, I am expected to be sober, silent and very much focused. It was tough, but I learnt the tricks of the trade soon," says he.

Quite like their off-screen lives, the four main characters in Remix, hail from different backgrounds, busy working towards fulfilling their ambitions. Forced by circumstances to come together, the four finally form a music group called Remix.

Sohan Master and Rujuta Shah enter Remix as new students at Maurya High

Sapana Patil

Looks like Star One's campus drama Remix is having its cast remixed. Manav Gohil, who is slated to play the stern professor Mitra will enter the soap on Monday. And accompanying him are two new students, played by Sohan Master and Rujuta Shah.

Master says, "I play a character called Raghuram Deshpande. He enters Maurya High but finds it difficult to mingle with his classmates because of the inferiority complex he nurses, owing to a low social class. He is as good a student as the rest are but he can't handle the cool dudes of the college with their long hair."

Talking about his looks and style on the show he says, "I will appear a simpleton. But Shrishti (Arya, the producer of the show) wants me to speak in a typical Maharashtrian accent, which I am trying to adopt."

"The story then develops to show him forming a gang against Ranvir, Tia, and the others. He picks fights with them, and this will then portray his negative side," he continues.

Surprisingly, Master had participated in Zee Cinestars Ki Khoj. "People used to recognise me then. Now with my entry into Remix I hope to be noticed again. I have been told that my character is very strong, I hope to perform well," he says.

Master can currently be seen on Zee's Paalkhi as Jimit and will also act in Asha Parekh's Akhanda Saubhagyavati. He will enter Remix after a few weeks.

The other actor who is slated to make an entry on the show is Rujuta Shah, who has also made a few serials earlier. She says, "I play Shyla Seth. She is a combination of beauty, brains and attitude. My opening scene will create a boom on the show. My entry will make the boys go gaga over me. In the coming days, I will start liking Ranvir and this creates a rift between Ranvir and Tia. I will be shown to be good to others but rude to Tia. That will reflect my negative side. As for the way I am to look – very hip."

Shrishti Arya summarises the track saying, "The new term has just begun at Maurya High. So we have these students coming in. We have conducted extensive auditions for these characters. Raghuram Deshpande is a scholarship student and Shyla Seth is the rich girl." Can't wait to get back to school…

Priya Wal as Anvesha in Remix
This week's Ask A Star is Priya Wal, who plays Anvesha in the Star One daily Remix.

As the rebellious redhead of Maurya High, she got a fiery temper with an attitude to match. Here what readers asked the feisty actress…

Whose idea was it to colour your hair red? — Juhi
Dear Juhi, it was my stylist Tanya Behl's idea, as it went perfectly with my character. Adhuna Akhtar at Juice cut my hair.

What does "duh", which you say regularly on the show, mean? Who coined the Hey Bhaggu phrase? — Shahid Momin
Dear Shahid, "duh" basically means dumbo. My creative director coined the phrase Hey Bhaggu. She used to use it with her friends during her college days.

Is Priya Wal as rebellious and bold as Anvesha of Remix? — Aakash
I am as confident and naughty as Anvesha, but I think off late I have also become rebellious like her. I guess playing Anvesha has made me forget Priya. I've totally gotten into the skin of the character.

You and Yuvi make a great pair together, but off-screen are you seeing anyone? —- Sana
Dear Sana, I am very much single. We have been working like dogs and have no time for anyone. However, if anyone is interested in dating a red-haired rebel, he's more than welcome.

If you had to choose between a big banner film and Remix which one would you choose? — Priyanka
Dear Priyanka, I've got a couple of offers, but I'm not interested in typical Bollywood films. I would rather do a film like White Noise or Monsoon Wedding. Such films excite me.

How did you get into acting? — Jasmine
I was modelling in Delhi, and that is when I got this offer to audition for Remix. The moment I heard about the character I was auditioning for, I got excited. I came down to Mumbai, did the audition and got selected.

How different/ similar are you from Anvesha? —- Bareen Tramboo
Dear Bareen, I think the only major difference between Priya and Anvesha is that Priya is not as over the top as Anvesha.

If you had the chance to change one thing about Anvesha, what would it be? — Yasmin
Dear Yasmin, I would make sure she doesn't fall for the same guys as her mom!

What's next after Remix? — Mohsina
Dear Mohsina, I don't know. I always wanted to play Tennis, and never thought of modelling. And when I became a model, I never decided to act. So life has been full of surprises for me. I'm having a great time doing Remix, but I don't know what the future holds.

Don't you think Remix has been going slow lately? — Sahil
Dear Sahil, Remix is a one-hour daily show, and it's the first time such a unique concept has been tried on television. I don't think the show is getting slow, it's just that the current track is focusing on the love angle. But the masti is going to double very soon!

What kind of off-screen chemistry do you have with your co-stars? — Renuka
Dear Renuka, All of us hang out together most of the time, and we know each other really well. We do have our share of fights, but they are not that dramatic. Everyone is helpful and cordial.

Tia (Shweta Gulati) with Anvesha (Priya Wal)
After playing Babloo Singh in Star One's

Remix, Anvesha (Priya Wal) now gets a makeover as Lola Kutty look-alike, Shyla Devi.

Revealing the track in the coming week, producer Shrishti Behl Arya says, "Tia (Shweta Gulati) is looking for a roomie to stay with her. Anvesha decides to have some fun by dressing up as Shyla Devi, a hardcore Rajnikant fan from the south, and make life miserable for Tia."

Babloo to Shyla

Wal, who has almost mastered the art of taking on a goofy new character each week, is thrilled about her Shyla Devi makeover.

"I take on the identity of Tia's roommate to harass her. It took a lot of hard work, especially when it came to the dark make-up, to look like the character. After doing Babloo Singh and getting an awesome response, I can't wait to get feedback on Shyla."

Gohil's entry

Commenting on Wal's comic timing, Shrishti says, "Priya has shown remarkable spark with her comic timing. It feels great to see her emerge into a solid actor."

The coming week will also see the entry of Manav Gohil, as Professor Debashish Mitra. "I am very excited to have him on the show, he has really wowed us with his acting. The look we have given him is very different, with grey contact lenses and highlighted hair", says Shrishti.

Remix on Monday

The episode will mark the entry of Professor Mitra on the show. With his coming into the school, Ranvir and Yuvi get jittery about the choice of subjects they want to make.

Especially Yuvi who prefers arts to science, but is forced to take subjects he dislikes. As always Anvesha other than fighting with Tia, asks the boys to follow her plan to ensure they don't get into a tiff with Mitra.

Playing the role of Anvesha in Remix has been my greatest accomplishment so far," says Priya Wal, one of the four main characters starring in Star One's popular teen serial.
Wal plays the role of Anvesha, a well-known actress's daughter studying at a boarding school who gets utmost pleasure bullying people around her.
This Raheja Township resident and former model says she grabbed the opportunity when she heard the script. "I came to Mumbai for the auditions and was selected immediately," says Priya, who has done more than 25 print campaigns including those for LG, Electrolux, Cosmopolitan and Ritu Kumar.
This Delhite shifted base to Mumbai nine months ago and says, "My friends always called me a nautanki. Though I am not a brat in real life, I can relate to Anvesha as I too have been to boarding school."
But Priya's quick to add that working on the serial is pretty tough. She says, "It is a lot of hard work. We shoot from 9 am to 10 pm, we are on the sets from around 8 am to 11 pm six days a week. That hardly gives me and my co-stars any spare time."
She's referring to co-stars, Sakshi Talwar (Vrinda) and Suriely Joseph (Mariah Priya) who share a flat with Priya at Raheja Township.
Says Priya, "We are a family now. We live, work and hang out together. I love each and every aspect of my life in Mumbai."
And is she interested in making it to the big screen? "I hope so," says Priya, adding, "I have been offered a few roles, but I am not interested in a typical Bollywood movie. I would love to work in crossover cinema as I can relate more to it. If I get to act in such a film, I will grab that opportunity."
Besides acting, Priya loves buying music CDs, watching movies and is into adventure sports.
She wants to go bungee jumping and skydiving someday. And what does she enjoy about Malad? "That has to be Inorbit Mall. Sakshi, Suriely and myself go out together on Sundays," says Priya

It's got the look
Remix, popular daily on Star One is targetted at the generation X and has succeeded in setting trends amongst the youngsters. Tanya, the dress designer of Remix has given each character a distinctive look. Be it Tia's petite look, Yuvraj's macho rockstar image or the wild child carefree look of Anvesha. The hep look is completely in synch with the times. The makers claim that Saif Ali Khan wearing an array of funky of wrist bands in Salaam Namaste is like the ones Priya Wal (Anvesha) sports and the serial. You can even find shades of Ranveer's look in Angad of Kaisa Hai Yeh Pyar Hai played by Iqbal Khan, point out the makers. Tut, tut.
